I invite you to watch Steven Universe, then. Or Gravity Falls. Or a number of shows from the Disney of the 90s, like Gargoyles. I was actually brought to tears by an episode of Steven Universe.

I watched one episode. I didn't like it at all. So no reason to watch another.

1. I named three shows. Which one are you talking about.
2. I... really cannot think of a civilized response to the notion of ignoring a show based on one episode.

1. Steven Universe.

2. Don't think of one, but one episode is what I can and will afford to decide upon a show. It is either blow my mind or the garbage bin. No middle ground.

First impressions matter a lot, and even if it passes a good impression, the garbage bin is always there waiting if I got bored.

I'm a firm believer of the 3 episode rule myself. I've seen plenty of shows that didn't pick up until the 2nd or 3rd ep, or shows that have a good premise that put all of their ideas and budget in ep 1.

Depending on how bad of a flop it is, 3 minutes, 1 episode, or 3 episodes could all be enough time to decide whether or not you're likely to enjoy something. Even if 1/10 of the things you drop might become something you're okay with if you can put up with watching it just a bit longer, most of the time it's not worth suffering through all the episodes of shows you dislike on the off-chance you might like it.

People don't all like the same things and sometimes people will suggest something to you and you'll watch an episode and say that you didn't like it and then they'll say "give it at least 3 episodes, it doesn't really get going until then" and you watch those episodes and you still don't like it and you realize that your tastes aren't identical to other people's. Sometimes you legitimately do need to give something a few more episodes, but if you don't see ANY merit in what you've seen so far, it's usually pretty safe to drop something immediately.

For example, Avatar: The Last Airbender is the best example of western anime, removing the comedy ones, but I would still not give it a high rate, something between 6 and 7. it is simply not mature enough for me. Don't get me wrong, it is perfectly fine to create anime that has appeal to all ages, but that also impairs an anime to be watched with some topic in mind.

And I agree with Rubik, sometimes you don't need even a single episode to see that you won't like something. And sometimes you think you like something and it proves you wrong, but as I said before first impressions are very important. I like to trust them, most of time my initial hunches prove to be right for me. I only ignore them from time to time, because someone I trust told it was really good, or I am very interested in the story, or some other unknown reason. When that happens and I decide not to trust them, most of times I get disappointed.

I have learned to distrust my instincts, because my instincts are crap. MLP, Avatar, Higurashi, AoT, Elfen Lied, Vandread, Scooby Doo Mystery Inc., Mai-Otome, Mushi-Shi, Steven Universe, Gumball, Angel Beats, Claymore, Noein, One Piece, Soul Eater, SAO, these are all titles where my instincts told me one thing but I ended up with an opinion opposite of the one I started with.

As I've said, I tend to give things I watch a much longer grace period -- with Blue Exorcist specifically I was going to give it five episodes before deciding, and I'm glad I did because 3 out of 5 I hated, but the rest of the show I ended up loving. Of course, at the same time I suppose I should make it clear that anything that I set out to watch (as opposed to just catching on TV), I will read/watch a review or two 90% of the time, so I rarely go watch something without a pretty good idea that I'll like it. Blue Exorcist was something I caught on Toonami, though a meatspace friend of mine had been talking about it just about a month prior.

In fact, right now I've got Michiko and Hatchin in my grace period because it's something airing on Toonami that I've never heard before. I'll probably end up sticking with it, though at this point it looks like I will place it in the same category as Black Lagoon.

I watch anime until the point where I can't give a **** anymore. This means things like SAO 2, Attack on Titan, Guilty Crown, etc. where I couldn't finish them end up at the waaaaayyyyy bottom of my list.

Wait. I thought you had kind of liked AoT?

No. I stopped at episode 8, went and read some reviews, did some soul searching, and then really stopped at episode 9 or 10. Read a plot summary online, decided I was not missing anything and I didn't care if I did.

Alright, I just finished watching Spice and Wolf, and without giving spoilers, did anyone else feel that the ending was a bit rushed?
I get that they ended with a climatic point, but it was over a little too quickly methinks.

I would've liked it if they had a few minutes of what happened to them after what is the current ending.

I don't think I ever finished season 2 anime, but season 2 only covers up to like end of vol 5, and there are 17 volumes in the series, so...

Yeah, I definitely was hoping they would have gotten further along the story.

I've started to drop anime pretty aggressively, primarily bad harems and cute girls shows. It means I miss out on some things that are better than they seem at first glance, unless I encounter some discussion that makes me give it a second try.

I dropped Gakkou Gurashi! by the time the OP started playing, but that show is like, so good.

I used to do that, but I am forcing myself to watch through the first three episodes of anime I think I'm interested in. Because I know that sometimes its just takes a short while to get invested.

It's opened a lot of doors for me.

Nothing fixes a bad harem though.

The best way to fix a bad harem is to make it even worse.

I am at the middle of season 1 of Psycho Pass. I knew I would like this anime at the first episode, but it only gets better and better. Strong candidate for 10 grade.

Psycho Pass was amazing! I love the shows where there is a lot of thinking and intrigue compared to those that have a lot of action and explosions. Psycho Pass had a nice mix of both for me.
Not enough Brittney Karbowski though... that was such a tease :(

It's very good. And when I am thinking it is slipping, it manages to give a twist that throws the stakes even higher. Really strong candidate.

I am also watching Tatami Galaxy. And I am surprised, it is really good. I am not really into comedy, but it is a very clever story with a clever sense of humor. It also reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day, that is one of my favorite movies of all time. One more positive point.

Groundhog Day was an amazing movie. I'll have to add Tatami Galaxy to my watchlist.
