Was that part of the Eternal Conflict update?

Yeah. For an unspecified duration, Treasure goblins spawn if anyone in your party hasn't yet killed a treasure goblin. Kill it before the countdown to game start finishes, and your first time killing it each day grants 100 gold.

For Gold in general, Between that and daily quests awarding 2-8 hundred gold for a similar number of games (except "win 3 games" awarding 600 for what's usually 3-4 games if you play vs. AI), it's not too hard to make a bankroll. Getting Free to Play heroes to level 5 for 500 gold a piece has also been instrumental in my current status being solvent with several heroes. (I did the math, and quests, leveling every hero that's been FTP to 5, and reaching player level 40 are near even contributions right now, having earned a total of 53k gold. Since the other sources are one-time, quests will begin to outstrip the others)

~Fake Edit~

Top Trending Heroes, huh? Man, I'd probably have to google stats. Since I don't have 10 yet to play hero league, I mostly see a lot of whoever's free this week, some of whatever's new and shiny (Johanna and now Butcher), Frequent Valla (A lot of people have her for free and she's 2k otherwise) a smattering of gold-cheap characters (Rayor, Li Li, and Malfurion mostly, maybe a bit of Gazlowe), and the occassional Nova, Abuthur, and/or Illidan. I've probably seen everybody, but anyone not falling into one of those categories is pretty scarce. Again, that's not a competitive meta analysis, just my perception as a casual player.

Sylvanis is seen a lot just because she's one of the strongest characters.

The five most played heroes are Kael'thas, Valla, Jaina, Malfurion, and Sylvanas. In that order.

Jaina was free when I first tried out the game. I really liked her, but then she rotated out and I didn't have the money to just buy a character.

I've been trying this. Its by far the most tolerable moba.

But....still plagued with nasty community members, and the good old "any interaction with a human player involves them running off screen unless they can 3 shot you or gang up on you"

That's how you play mobas though. You avoid fighting unless you can win because dying is BAD.

Yeah, I never know when to run away. Movement always just seems so stifled and stiff. Always makes me think I'm not gonna get away anyways.

It takes lots of practice to know when the right time to run away is. Usually you'll know when you've overdone yourself in a certain situation a split second after you make an action and then you just wait to be steam rolled. Unless you have a lot of mobility. But heroes like Kael'thas that don't have any mobility until lvl 20 are one of those characters that you'll always want on that back line until you know you can go in for that devastating kill to one or multiple enemies.

Played a few vs. AI games today and actually did okay, but I was using a melee support healer, so I found that class frustrating. On the plus side, it did clear out two daily quests in one go, which was why I went with it.

Played some more recently and cleared my Daily log. Just over 9,000 gold right now, and kinda intent on getting to 10k gold to buy either Nova or Jaina. I enjoy ranged assassins a lot.

Having both of those two at level 9, Jaina is a LOT more forgiving and tends to put up better numbers on the stats screen, while nova has a longer (if steeper) learning curve and is more specialized at actually landing hero kills. That's my impression on it.

Cool, I'll probably get Jaina then. Already have her at level 4, I think.

Nova is very skill intensive but a blast once you get the hang of her. I know she's good but Jaina has always been a little to much glass and not enough cannon for my taste.

Then again I'm a Tychus fanboy so take that with a grain of salt.

See, I used Jaina in my first several matches and found her to be really easy to get a hang of and pretty strong, especially for controlling the field since she could direct traffic with her Blizzard attack. Nine times out of ten, people ran away when they saw the telegraph of it, so it really worked out throwing it down when in a bad spot, and I could usually get away or kill.

I haven't tried Nova yet, she hasn't come up on the free rotations since I've been playing. I really want to give her a try before spending what is likely to be the majority of the gold I'll ever accumulate in the game. Ah well, we'll see.

There is a 'Try' mode where you can play any hero on a small map with one AI ally and one AI enemy and you can do things like click a button to level everyone up so you can try them in different stages of the game.

To get to Try mode, go into the Shop (click the word shop in the top left) and find the hero you want to try, click that hero and click try.

There'll be another free hero rotation one week from now. I still haven't played Nova despite having played everyone else except the two most recent heroes so she'll probably rotate in soon.

Cool. I haven't done a 'Try' on any character yet, so it's good to know what it does. Then again, I'm still just Rank 9.
