I did a thing!

so a couple friends and I have been working for like ages on an educational youtube channel that teaches music theory. after *mumblemumble* months, we're finally at a place where we feel like we can launch and start this project rolling. I don't know how many of you would be interested in that, but if you are you can find it here. check it out I put a lot of work into it.

also if you're gonna point out the image quality issues for the Intervals, Scales, and Chords videos, this is a known problem, it was a necessary sacrifice to get the ball rolling. we'll come back and fix it later but project fatigue was hitting pretty hard since we hadn't seen any results from all our work, so we just launched with some imperfections. just to save you all the trouble of complaining.

Cool. I studied a small amount of music theory when I was in high school, and I regret never following up on it. I'll definitely check these out.

Overall, I really like the videos.
Being a musical newb (I literally only research things I need to know when come across them), I understand nothing, but the videos hold my interest.
Also, fun fact, at 2:22 you time travel into the future. This entertained me to no end. I went back three or four times to 2:18 just to enjoy it over and over again. While this has no real relation to the educational value of the video, I figured I'd let you know that I appreciated it (whether it was intentional or not).

My only suggestion is some better resolution close up pictures. They are a wee bit grainy (brighter lighting could fix this too). That fixes over time with experience, but it's something to be aware of.

Good job you guys!

yeah that was due to not having enough pictures. this was the first video we did with our new videographer and we hadn't really figured out how to make things work right yet, so when I went to edit it it turned out we didn't have a picture of that without the stuff underneath, so I had to zoom in and position it weird to try and hide it. later on we started being way more liberal with the picture-taking.

yeah, that's also kind of a product of newness with this set-up. we were shooting from farther away, so I had to zoom more than normal. what we do is take really high-def wide-shot pictures, then just zoom in during editing, which usually works pretty well but if we zoom past a certain point (I think around 4X) it starts to degrade at 1080, which is where the video in general is. but thanks for the suggestion, we're definitely trying to work on stuff like that.

No problem; I'm always willing to help, though I also might be hypnotized by the melodius sound of your voice. :p

I always wished I had a youtube channel so I figured some basic stuff to get a setup going (plus I have slight background in film due to a few classes), but I only worked with free applications and the video quality was low (and you can't make something from nothing).

Thus I decided to invest in an art tablet instead. :p

So I will still express that I have no idea what's being talked abot. My knowledge of music theory is limited at best. So informationally, I can't exactly help you, but as before I still watch the videos and enjoy it.

That said, at least I know where to look when I want to explore chords. Which i've tampered with in the past, found the results absolutely horrifying, and have stopped ever since . Maybe I can give it a try again when I have time to do free things. I miss not being busy sometimes :nonono:

Whatever you did in the lighting in the last video, KEEP DOING IT! The manica on the dance floor video I was jotting down, lighting goes bright/dark/bright etc. And then it vanished with your recent video. So A+!

Any chance you can teach elephant man how to draw your avatar? Needs more razor!

Though, as a possibility, I don't know if you group has skill with animation, or extended drawing finesse, but it might be fun to have some figure be associated with you voice? LIke come character with a few different poses that changes depending on what's happening. Think Gaijin Goomba from The Game Theorists Culture Shock. I'm not saying it's necessary, but it could be fun.

Good work!

basically I stopped using youtube's auto-fix lighting thing, because it doesn't handle sudden changes well. I might go take it off the old ones too. the problem is I don't really trust myself with contrast and brightness yet, but I agree this isn't really better.

anyway, I did another one! it has the auto-fix on it as of posting, but I'm reverting it back and just manually tweaking their brightness/contrast stuff so it should be better soon.

yeah I went back and reset all of them to a manual setting that seems to work well enough and is consistent. it washes out the push-ins a little bit on the early ones, but that's ok, better than the constant pulsing light.

also, I'm trying to not super-associate 12tone with razorborne. razorborne is my ubiquitous internet identity, and I'd rather be able to keep that to myself. I'm hoping I can build a decent viewer base with 12tone, and I'd rather be able to keep the areas of my life that aren't associated with the project separate as much as possible.

also start exploring music theory again! it's so much fun. it's like math with sounds.

I really enjoy your narration, as well as the guitar playing interspersed through the video.

thanks! I was worried about doing the audio syncing with the guitar but it turns out that's super easy. Premiere is basically magic.
