"I'm in the mood to try something new, bring me your favorite dish and drink please."

Turning to her companions, she listened to Kitar give his report. "Good to know. We didn't find out too much, evidently there are at least 9 or 10 bandits, and they're unwilling to attack followers of Tempus, which sounds like a few jinkes worth of mystery, but it sounds like the problem is in hand for now. Other than that didn't glean too much, although I get the feeling we'll uncover a whole mess of new info in our investigations tomorrow."

Iados follows the others into The Helm at Highsun, taking a seat at the table that allows him to keep his back to the wall. It wasn't that he was expecting trouble, he just didn't really feel safe leaving himself exposed regardless of his company. He scans the crowd quickly looking for anyone who might be looking to start trouble with the strange group before answering the waitress. "Soup. Bread. Water. Thank you."

He listens to Kitar and Luka talks, raising an eyebrow at their revelations. "I doubt there is much mystery to it bard. Brigands and filth they may be but even bandits will pause before attacking a priest of the Lord of War. They may look humble but battle is their nature. Though I am curious magpie - who is going to 'take care' of the bandits? The constable? How many men did he have with him?"

The waitress takes everyone's orders and brings back the requested food (assuming those who haven't ordered don't ask for anything exotic), as well as the drinks. The food is fantastic, while the ale is more bitter and with a more flat flavor than The Swinging Sword's drink. As you're all discussing what you each saw, anyone angled to see the front door open will notice Thirty-Four staggering into The Helm at Highsun, his clothing dirtied and a bit torn. He walks over to the bar, slumps down onto a bar stool (which is just a tall and fairly wide log, smoothed for some comfort), and orders a drink.

Hexion called over to the waitress.

"I'd like your best vegetable dish. No meat, if you will. Oh, and do you have wine? I'd like a small pitcher of that if you do," said Hexion, placing his order. His companions were speaking of the bandits, but hearing nothing new of them that was of interest, he turned back to the waitress.

"Would you happen to know if there are any elves in town?" asked Hexion, quietly as to not disturb his companions, but loud enough for them to overhear.

Kitar drinks the ale in a mug and with his elbow on the table. He keeps talking casually between sips. "Said person just entered the tavern, Horns." The ranger points to Thirty-Four with his mug.

"Hmm. Curious." Upon Kitar's revelation Iados casts a discerning eye towards Thirty-Four, attempting to take some measure of the man. After a few moments consideration he stands, nodding towards the others before making his way carefully across the crowded building eventually finding himself standing at Thirty-Four's side. Leaning forward he pushes a few silver coins across the bar to the person who served the strangely-named man.

"Let me get that for you. My associate tells me you left town today to deal with the bandits that have been plaguing your roads. Takes a brave man to attempt such a thing alone. Foolish yes but brave." He takes a moment to inspect the mans torn clothes before continuing. "Still you seem to have come away without too many wounds. So you are very skilled or very lucky. The bandits are gone then?"

"Yes, they're quite gone," replies Thirty-Four. "Amycipus came with me, though she's quite tired now and sleeping. Quite the impressive child, she killed eight herself. Quite the impressive child."

"There's a few elves who drop by from time to time," replies the waitress. "But few seem to actually live in Red Larch. A few half-elves have settled down here, but they mostly keep to themselves. That's about the extent of it. Red Larch is predominately human, though we do have a smattering of other races here. Grund is a half-orc out in the Market, he's harmless, though."

"Half-elves, huh?" repeated Hexion. "Hmmm. Pray tell, where might I find these half-elves?"

"Nope," the waitress replies. "Not my place to tell strangers where they live. No offense, but I don't know y'all in the least."

"Shame to hear that, dear" said Hexion, feigning remorse. "I suppose, then, it wouldn't do for us to go deal with this 'evil presence' at Lance Rock we've been charged with. Who knows what evil we untrustworthy travelers could bring back?"

Iados falls silent as Thirty-Four speaks, taking a moment to process exactly what he had heard. When he speaks again there is a distinct edge to his voice - a man quite clearly trying not to show his anger. "Did you just say you took Amycipus - a child - with you to fight bandits? You seem a smart man so I will assume I misheard you. A smart man does not do stupidly irresponsible things."

"I'm sure blackmailing the commom people is a nice way to gain their trust, Hexion." Kitar speaks with a very sarcastic tone from behind his mug, without taking his eyes off Iados and Thirty-Four.

Iados

"More irresponsible not to take her along," replies Thirty-Four. "You may relax, she hasn't even a scratch. You're the Tiefling that she came riding on into The Swinging Sword, eh? You don't need to worry, she's more than capable and stronger than you or I. She only needs training and to focus her arcane talents, and since there is no Tower for several month's journey, her mother entrusted her to me. Ever see an untrained innate mage in adulthood? She'd level this town."

Everyone But Iados

"Dunno nothing about an evil presence," replies the waitress. "But if you're willing to ignore a problem because someone won't give away private information, you're no adventurer or hero we need around here." She walks away briskly with a scowl on her face.

"Told ya", says Kitar to Hexion. "I hope she spits on your food only."

"Funny to hear it from Mr. Monster of the Day, Kitar," responds Hexion. For once, he seems genuine annoyed.

"At least I didn't pick a fight with the person responsible for our food. Never do that." Kitar does not even look at Hexion while he speeks.

Sensing the subtle shift in atmosphere, Luka ate her meal thoughtfully, keeping an eye on Iados as she let her free hand rest on the hilt of her rapier. As her companions began bickering, she took a moment to address them. "Hey you two, play nice or I swear to Io I'll turn this cart around.".

"So to train her you took her into a den a brigands and had her murder them. Because the simplest methods to harness magic energies are conveniently the most dangerous. Performing simple cantrips and conjurations would prove ineffective? I question your methods wizard - and your judgement." Iados' distaste of the man is clearly etched onto his features as he speaks.

Iados

Thirty-Four heaves a heavy sigh. "Why is it every stupid traveler comes into a town and immediately believes they know what's best for that township? I'm her Guardian, so I'm going to say it's none of your business." He waves his hand dismissively at Iados and turns back to his drink.

Everyone But Iados

Try as you might, no server will come to your table for the rest of the night. The waitresses clearly avoid your table.
