Well Raven's already handling the first sort of curational thing you mentioned (and we've been working for a while on lists of stuff that makes for a good entry point). But yeah as far as serial stuff goes we have a huge amount of material to choose from.
Because we're
awesome.(We should totally serialize Phantoms. Then I'll finally get a chance to read the whole thing.)
Re-releasing Seasons of Dusk is tricky because it's 39 freaking stories, but if we could rerelease some of it (maybe 13 of our favorites?) during October that'd be rad and, obviously, topical.
Honestly though I think the Jackie stories would be an excellent place to start. They're fairly well connected together, don't require a lot of backstory, and are definitely some of the most well loved stories from the project.
The problem with a NEW serial story that's never been seen before is that we'd have to figure out how voting would work in that case. War of the Wheel was released in serial fashion for example but it was revised before its "final" form was added to the archives. Releasing something publicly implies, to my mind, that we're vouching for its completion, but voting on it necessitates it being at least released to other M:EMbers... it's something that I think we could do, but it would take some coordination and planning. I do know of at least one (admittedly stalled) project that could fit the bill though...
One thing that I think we could do in the future is maybe a column like Taste the Magic, a showcase on the creative processes of folks here. Wouldn't have to be limited to flavor/M:EM stuff either--interviews with some of the folks from YMTC would be pretty cool too. That's a lot more work though, obviously.
