p1p1 - So, the thing about Bazaar is that it's really good at loading your graveyard up with a lot of cards. It costs you development to do this. While a regular reanimator strategy is fine, I think an aggro-dredge style of deck tends to be more rewarding. The two will likely mix regardless, but once I have Bazaar, I value
Vengevine and
Gurmag Angler much more than I did before. The most powerful card in this pack is probably Shelldock Isle, but I've wanted to open a Bazaar in this format forever, so I'm excited to see it happen here. So much so that I'm gonna draft along.
Bazaar of Baghdad.
p1p2 - Considering one of the lands or Skullclamp. Like I said, I want to become some sort of agro-graveyard-explosion deck, which means I'll have bodies, which means
Skullclamp might be great. I can find better fixing later.
p1p3 - Hmmm... I expect Buried Alive to table, but I'll never know now, will I? It's the sort of mass-graveyard-filler that makes this version different and intriguing. I probably would have gone greedy and grabbed Watery Grave, hoping for the underappreciated
Buried Alive to table, but since that's impossible, I'll just snag it here.
p1p4 - What? No. No no no. Why are you taking Day of Judgment? You want to be the deck making creatures! Here, it's between Prowler and Souls for me. White isn't the color I was looking to pair with Bazaar, but I don't even need white to make Souls work, and Skullclamp is just eye-balling me, yo. Prowler is a nice discard outlet, but it often tables and is also horrible if I end up being the Living Death deck. So, I'll take
Lingering Souls and get me some free value.
p1p5 - I'm so confused. What kind of reanimator deck is this??? Frosty actually seems fine as a hybrid reanimation target that you can also cast, but I'm taking
Fauna Shaman because I want to EXPLODE.
p1p6 - Nothing great here. Would have been a nice pack to grab a land.
Abrupt Decay is in the colors I expect to play and is an answer to plenty of things I need answers to, so into the deck it goes. Wurm would have been fine, if unexciting.
p1p7 - It's been a while since we agreed! Give me the naturally dying, 187, creature killing
Shriekmaw, please!
p1p8 - Firestorm is cool and this is the sort of deck for it to shine in. If you ever get reanimator stuff, that is. Which neither of us have. Flashback stuff works too. Anyway, I'm taking
Elvish Mystic because I need more creatures for Clamp/Shaman and for recovering from Bazaar's mana disadvantage. And because Elves are awesome.
p1p9 - I forgot to check the opening pack to see what would table.
Bloodsoaked Champion is the exact sort of card I wanted. It's an engine with Clamp and a good card to bin with Bazaar. Happy days!
p1p10 - I intend on being aggro, so the painlands don't bother me. I also currently have 3 colors I want to support, so that makes
Mana Confluence my pick.
p1p11 -
Geralf's Messenger probably won't make my deck do to its intensive mana requirements, but it probably has the best shot given my goals. Awakening Zone is giving my Skullclamp doey eyes and I'm having to beat it off with rolled-up newspaper.
p1p12 - Sweet,
Oona's Prowler tabled as expected. So far, I have the right sort of deck for it.
p1p13 - I would run
Gaddock Teeg if the deck looks right. He shuts off all the right cards, none of which are mine.
p1p14 -
Qasali Pridemage might also make the main deck. Woo!
p1p15 -
Garruk, Caller of Beasts will NOT make the main-deck... unless I'm not actually reanimator... which... given the GW cards I just took... hmmm....
At this point, our decks are worlds apart. You weren't committed to the reanimator strategy, man! To be fair, none of the other cards that make you wanna cast things from the graveyard showed up, so you might be winning here.
p2p1 - I want the fixing, and I usually just take it, but
Survival of the Fittest is basically the last card like it in the cube and I want it ferociously.
p2p2 - Funny enough, Corpse Dance just isn't the sort of reanimator I'm looking for. Mana Vault is screaming at me, but it's also looking suspect in this deck. Whisperwood is probably fine in the deck, and Battlesphere is a legit reanimation target, but I'm just gonna fix my mana with
Caves of Koilos.
p2p3 - Okay,
Animate Dead. I said earlier that I'm looking for an aggressive creatures-from-the-yard version of the deck, and I meant it, but cheap ways to buy back a fatty are also great for the deck. I skipped on a ton of big creatures before now, but I'll grab the next available one.
p2p4 - Not here though!
Recurring Nightmare is the best reanimation card for the deck and I take it with gusto. I'll be interested to see if Murderous Cut and Voice of Resurgence tables, as both feel good in my deck and the one I see might change how the deck gets built.
p2p5 - I'm on either a land, Wall of Blossoms, or Green Sun's Zenith. I've taken too many painful lands so far, so I'm not thrilled there. Wall is defensive, basically not what I've intended for this deck, but it's still an engine with Nightmare. GSZ fetches a few relevant creatures from my current pile, the funniest one being Gaddock Teeg. I think
Green Sun's Zenith has enough upside to grab here, but maan do I NOT want more non-creature spells. Just creatures now, please, thank you.
p2p6 - Ugh. I just don't want Utter End. I'm taking
Baleful Strix in case I go blue for some crazy reason.
p2p7 - Gonna need to find some real duallands, but I'm taking
Arbor Elf. I feel like I'm getting a little cut off, and I'm blaming you, POS, for not cutting my archetype!
p2p8 - All the duals I can't use.
Bloodline Keeper is a fine pack-up plan. Sidisi is interesting, and Wall of Omens is basically the same thing I said above, but ya. Keeper.
p2p9 -
Sin Collecter is a good one. Get in there.
p2p10 -
Vampire Nighthawk is a reasonable midrange card. I didn't get into this for reasonable midrange cards, but I guess that's what I get.
p2p11 -
Hypnotic Specter feeds into the creatures-who-control-your-stuff theme I have going, so might as well take it.
p2p12 -
Voice of Resurgence tabled. It's sweet with Nightmare.
p2p13 - LMAO, GSZ tabled.
Wall of Blossomsp2p14 -
Mystic Snakep2p15 -
Zurgo BellstrikerWell, that was disappointing. I do think there's a possibility that a lot of what I wanted was cut off. Your match spoiler shows another reanimator was at the table, and since you went into UW, none of the BACK OFF signal made it down-table. Such is the life of this sort of draft. Still, pack 3 holds the promise of things working out, so here's hoping that they do.
p3p1 - I want Scrubland, Shaman, Avenger, Elves, and Entomb. Can I really take any of those over Sol Ring? I might. I have heavy color requirements, so the colorless mana might be difficult to utilize. Ugh. How do you pass the best card in the format? It's probably wrong, but I think I should.
Scrubland gets into my deck because I just need the fixing more than anything at this point. SO SAD.
p3p2 - I would really like Necromancy, but
Craterhoof Behemoth is one of the best reanimation targets for an aggro deck, so it gets the nod. If Nerco or BOP table, I'll be happy. (Obviously Necro won't, lulz.)
p3p3 - I passed up one crazy powerful effect in Sol Ring. I won't pass up another.
Mind Twist might not be exactly what this deck is about, but it kills opponents dead, and that I like. Might not run Gaddock Teeg in the main deck, now.
p3p4 - I want more fixing. And I want Sheoldred. It's in my top-10 for cards I wanna cast Animate Dead on in this deck. Horizon Canopy is more pain, which is starting to scare me. Bloodstained Mire can potentially fix G later, and it fixes BW now. Seems awfully cavalier. As much as I want the fixing, I think I'll take
Sheoldred, Whispering One and just hope one of the fixers tables. Or that I find better fixing soon.
p3p5 - Do I have
Sun Titan combos? Voice and Collector are. Animate Dead is. Skullclamp is. Anything off of Shaman or Survival is. Ya, I have enough. It's possibly better than Eternal Witness given that I have ways to cheat it out and a few bits of ramp.
p3p6 - Yuck. I'll grab
Stomping Ground in case that Bloodstained Mire tables. Nature's Claim is a fine sideboard card, but I don't really need it. Elder just isn't what I need. It's too slow for my deck, regardless of it's 187 abilities. It's actually probably the right pick, but I'm grumpy now.
p3p7 - yay, I found a delve card! Didn't get nearly enough fuel for it, though. Prowler, Shaman, Survival, Skullclamp, and Bazaar do a lot, but I really need some other cards to help make it great. I'm still gonna take
Tasigur, the Golden Fang here and forego my mana needs. And probably hate myself for it.
p3p8 - PICK 8? PICK 8? Vengevine and Tombstalker are both cards no one else wants. They were both supposed to be MINE!
UGH.
Vengevine is the better one for me, so into the deck it goes. Bye, Tombstalker.
p3p9 - HA. Dual lands. Who needs them. *sigh*
Llanowar Elves is something I badly need, so I'll take it happily.
p3p10 - No joke,
Monastery Mentor looks pretty damn good with Recurring Nightmare. It barely goes with anything else, but my goal was to be aggressive, and it is. I will forego the interesting removal to grab the aggressive do-gooder.
p3p11 - Sure,
Braids.
p3p12 -
Horizon Canopy, I knew you'd table.
p3p13 - Sure,
Lifebane.

Considering that I'm fine discarding a number of creatures, I think I can count it as a land. It'll draw me out of odd mulligans often enough to work out. I cut Specter and Nighthawk because my fixing just isn't right: I can't even speed them out with an elf. Teeg got cut because I want both of my X spells to be alive, but I would easily side it in where required. Buried Alive didn't seem right; the package I'd currently get is Champion, vengevinve, fatty, but that's just not good enough I think. Decay I'll bring in where needed, but with Shaman, Survival, and Vengevine, I wanted to keep my creature count high.
All in all, despite my voiced frustrations and my less than stellar mana-base, I really like this deck.
