Hey had our first Origins draft for reaslz last night it was a 10 man (7 man, 2 boy, 1 woman pod technically).
I had a tough choice of P1P1 ... I took Fiery Impluse{/c] over [c]Joraga Invocation. Pick 2 was a pretty easy Claustrophobia. Pick 3 was Rhox Maulers over Abbot of Keral Keep, which I think was pretty close. I ended up in UG with a late Krasis (pack 2 maybe?). Deck was pretty solid except for the total lack of playable 2 drops. Everytime a pack with a green bear showed up, there was also a fatty or a Claustrophobia...
Another tough choice was Evolving Wilds over Foundry of the Counsuls. Consensus is that I was dead wrong to take wilds here, but being unable to cast Claustrophobia in your green deck is really bad.
I was actually super excited to get 2nd Maritime Guard on the wheel (remember that's like pick 11 or 12) because my deck is very weak to 2/2 renown guys, and I maindeck them both (took them out vs. UB control).
Deck was ALMOST UG permission... the blue card draw in this set sucks though. The green fattys however are insane. A 6/5 that comes with a free forcemage or wind drake or 3/3 tap-a-guy? Yes please.
I think maindecking the 2nd Dismissal > Disperse or Might was a flat out mistake, but countering stuff is fun! And this is NOT a disperse deck. I did bounce a Skaab Goliath for value and saved a Rhino from Celestial Flare.
Match 1 (RG) - I lost game one to _triple_ Prickleboar, just couldn't deal with the 3rd one. Borded in Sea-Terror. Crushed it in the 2nd game (although misplayed my lands could have countered his Maulers., and 3rd game couldn't draw a fatty and lost to 1) Joraga Invocation which 3 for 1'd me but I survived because I had cards in had (Turns out there were 4 in the pod, I only saw -- and passed -- )2) and stupid Thopter land when the board was clear and I couldn't block 3 1/1 fliers.
Match 2 - (UB) - I crushed it. I think my permission was better than his.
Match 3 - (Wg) - Top player but I won a good game 1 and a bad game 2. Just Claustrophobia plus fatties.
Weirdly, the top 3 decks were all G. I came in 3rd, the prickleboar.dec came in 2nd to my son who ran full on elves with Hangerback Walker, Mage-Ring Responder and Lilli.

Like I said, it bounced a fatty for tempo once and saved a fatty from removal once. I *think* it's almost always better than a counter spell? Certainly the 2nd counterspell. But generally this attacks you with a 6/6 or plinks you with fliers and neither demand a bounce. The BU guy was splashing for Knightly Valor so it would have been outstanding then, but I basically just 'phobiad his enchanted guy and ignored the 2/2.
The problem with dismissal/mana leak in limited is that there are times when if you counter the next play you basically win... but it's a 4 mana card and opp has 7 mana. I mostly wanted to play it with Bounding Krasis, but the one time I had both and mana held up on T3, I countered his play, and Krasis sat in my hand for a bunch of turns while I was playing defense playing 4 drops.... so that was weird.

Elf deck is indeed crazy in this format... I drafted one today and went 3-0 with it. Didn't even lose one game also the second game in my second game was really tight and I only won because my opponent made a mistake (I had like 2 life left and he had Soulblade Djinn in play and a Disperse to help him get through my Kothophed but he used his bounce after I declared my blockers).
P1P1 was Gilt-Leaf Winnower and from there I never went out of Black an Green in my picks. I didn't regret it, especially since someone fed me Kothophed, Soul Hoarder later on P2P2 because apparently he didn't need it.
