I made a list of recommendations on steam, here's a list of some of the obscurer ones. Descriptions later.

Desktop dungeons
Ittle dew
Nimbus
Storm in a teacup
Toki Tori

Super hexagon is on sale for 30c in the humble store at the moment

Recently I've been playing hand of fate and shovel knight

Oh man, I really hated that game. It was just horrible.

Is that the game that was just you trying not to hit the walls as you were infinitely heading towards the center?

I can swear I remember me and Squinty ragging on that quite a bit a while ago.

You stayed still (more or less) while the hexagons kept collapsing on you.

Yep. That's what I remember.

........ That game is terrible. There's minimalistic, and there's difficult, but there's a limit as to how much one can put up with a combination of the two before it's gone too far and lost a lot of the point. It's like "race the sun". Fun for 10 minutes and then you are bored out of your **** mind.

I'm pretty sure it was a designer who thought: People like bullet hell games, maybe they'd like a game where there is only one way out of it, everything moves faster, we remove 90% of the graphics, and then sell it for a hugely inflated cost of one dollar. Yup, this'll be great.

A big part of it is muscle memory so you know how long to hold down the key to travel a certain distance around the hexagon, and regular memory so you can look at the incoming pattern, recognise it and know which way to go. It takes a lot of attempts to get good at it, but since you die in about 10 seconds it doesn't take long to take a lot of attempts. I still haven't beat the hardestestest stage though.

Fairly short, but well done as well. Very atmospheric and well detailed for a 2D sidescroller, the story is a little sparse, but I really enjoyed what's there.

Speaking of obscure games, has anyone here played Estiah?

Not that it was too obscure a title, but it didn't get enough praise methinks for how awesome that game was. It was my brother and I's favorite game for N64.

For PC, Commander Keen, Jazz the Jack Rabbit were personal favorites of mine.

Oh man, I had completely forgotten about that one! The platforming of Mario, the level design of Sonic and a gun like Earthworm Jim!

But trying to collect everything in every level drove me nuts. Plus running out of the most useful types of ammo and having hundreds of the rest. But yeah a great game, I should actually play through the sequels some time

Kinda interesting Dragon Warrior Monsters is listed as obscure here.
For the longest time, I thought Dragon Warrior Monsters WAS the main line of Dragon Warrior series, and was pretty confused when I actually came across a Dragon Warrior game.

Are you me?
I even have a brother who I played Jet Force Gemini with <_<

Now that I'm here, I might as well mention:

Labyrinth of Touhou
A dungeon crawler in the style of Etryian Odessey, but with Touhou flavor. Part 2 is one of the best Touhou fangames.
