You sound like Cranky Kong. :P

My one regret in life is I'm not yet physically old enough to be the 'crotchety old man' stereotype for real. But one day. One day I will live the dream.

I also noticed that apparently you only need to beat a boss once? Because the symbol for big-eye-boss has been lit up on the golden door for every run now.

Yes and no. You only need to beat each of the main bosses once per playthrough, but you can unlock and challenge harder versions.

There are special items known as "Obols" that you can get from the item room. The item room drops a random buff item I still don't understand, the sonic the hedgehog joke item (the only bad one but it's there so you have some sort of risk), the compass that leads you to the secret room of the castle (uber loot chests in a hidden door you need the compass to find and open), Charon's Obol (you don't have to give him money, but just on the next run; good for saving up at earlier levels), and the Obol for any boss you have beaten.

Once you have a boss's Obol, there boss door will reopen and you can fight a suped up version of that boss at level 300. For this fight, you will be provided with a preset character that dies in 3 hits from the boss, with an ability set designed to be all a skilled player needs to beat it. Once you have the obol, you don't need to reget it and you can challenge these bosses as much as you want. If you lose, you respawn immediately outside the door ready to retry

Um....... I could only beat the one for the Dungeon so far, which is a "fun" one that is literally a high stakes game of Asteroids. The other 3 are very very hard, which is why all but Thanaptaphobia that I'm missing trophy-wise is related to those.

The recommended boss order is Town, Forest (to the right of the town), Tower (above the town), and finally Dungeon (below the town). The best classes for these fights are the spellsword, someone with good aoe, the barbarian, and someone with good dps and aoe.

Basically the idea is to get as much money as you think you safely can and then running off to challenge the next boss in a row :). What really happens is that once you beat the first two areas and just do those before making a mad dash for boss 3 or 4. And/or you use the architect to lock down the dungeon for your tower and dungeon attempts. If you can beat the boss of the tower, then both the 4th boss and the final boss are easier.

speaking of, go into the option's menu and turn pogo on. Using the down button for that attack versus down and attack is sooooooooooooooo much better and makes certain enemies negligibly easy once you get used to the bounce effect.

The thing about Rogue Legacy to keep in mind, is that you're not meant to win every time. Those runs where you hit a room you're not prepared for? Thats okay. Skip it and move on, or die and move on. You dont have to win every time. Sometimes you wont have enough hp left. Sometimes you wont have the right runes equipped.

Also most of the 'dice rolls' are pretty neutral, you get 3, and you even get the chance to re-roll later on. And if you still cant get a decent roll, see previous point. Its okay to just die and move onto a new life. Its kind of the point.

That is a valid strategy, since there's technically no penalty. Just die in the first room until you get a character you like.

Sure, but I've played other games where you're meant to die a lot (FTL, Out There, Long Live the Queen, Vagante), and they all reward exploration and understanding the mechanics of the game moreso than I feel Rogue Legacy does. You are given multiple choices in descendants, sure, and have multiple class options, but it feels like being better at the game is tied up more in the upgrades than in playstyle. I don't feel like the game encourages experimentation enough to be as enjoyable as other rogue-likes I've played.

What I mean is that essentially I don't like how much emphasis Rogue Legacy places on movement and combat.

Alternatively, there isn't as much on-the-fly changes and random chance as I've seen in other games like this. In all my playthoughs I've only come across two prayer whatchamacallits (one of which did give me the Sonic the Hedgehog item) and two spell podiums. Every other run I've been stuck with the exact things I entered with. I wish there were more spell podiums or other random item thingies that gave me choices to make ("should I keep my current item or trade it?"). I don't even consider the elf guy random chest thing enough because I know enough statistics.

The item rooms are more common the higher the area difficulty, so you'll start seeing more the deeper you get into the castle.

The real fun is going to start once you realize that the clown cheats soooooooooo hard.

First up, its a platformer, so if you dont like the movement and combat emphasis....I got nothing for you there. Its like playing a racing game and not liking the focus on driving cars >.>

The other points, I get what you mean, but...
Those games have rewards for achieving certain milestones, which are permanent....but at their core, they're designed for each playthrough to be a stand alone experience, and as such have a broader feel of progression and variation within a single run. The variance you're chasing is the class selection, and loadout selection. The playthroughs are meant to be quick, and each new run is meant to give that 'picking up different gear' sense.
But yeah, at its core, its a roguelike with a different take on it, and you're marking it down for not being the same as others, which have totally different design and intention.

I suppose that's apt, since the only racing game I really like are the Mario Karts (and a few clones). I don't think I'd be complaining as much if the combat was easier to deal with or had more options (like, say, multiple melee attacks or two different spells). My problem with the combat is that you have to get extremely close to hit but not too close because your hitbox is large but your attackbox (if I'm even using those terms correctly) is small and fast, and forget about the down air attack because the attackbox is gone long before you pull your sword back, nevermind that most enemies move because I've killed myself on stationary enemies just trying to jump in proper range to attack.

As for the second... I wonder if that's not what's causing my issue? I prefer games that I can sink hours into at a time, which is one thing I liked about FTL, and my experience with games designed to play a small amount every day hasn't been as rewarding.

7 and a half hours into scholar of the first sin. Still only in No Man's Wharf. Ah the beauty of it all.

Changes I love in Scholar of the First Sin:

- Better menus
- Better Placements for Some Items
- Most areas (Heidi's being the obvious exception so far) are designed to be harder but less frustrating
- You can buy lifegems ad infinum for 300 souls a pop. HUGE HUGE DEAL. These are the blood vials of Dark Souls 2 at lower estus levels.
- Can use multiple items at the same time, ala Bloodborne.
- Better enemy and friendly ai.

So here are the biggest changes I remember off the top of my head:

- Lots of items are in new places to screw with people. Only the most important will get their own line.
- There is a yore corpse blocking the 3rd tutorial path down to the coffin in things betwixt.
- The old hag merchant now sells a fragrant branch of yore for 13400. She also sells unlimited lifegems.
- The last giant has a second summon.
- There is an estus flask shard on the ground where the optional pursuer fight is.
- Forest of the Fallen Giants has more enemies, but easier placements. For example the original cluster**** room after the first bonfire now has a lot more enemies, but you have to come close to them to wake them up before they attack (all playing dead).
- Heidi's Tower of Flame now has heidi knights all over the place, replacing some of the enemies. The ones by old dragonslayer are already moving, while the others will start moving after the dragonrider is dead.
- Heidi's has a guardian dragon (from the 2nd to last area in the game) guarding old dragonslayer that must be beaten to lower the bridge.
- Heidi's has the ring of binding UNDER A HEIDI KNIGHT over near the dragonrider, where another chest used to be.
- No Man's Wharf has a new mini assassin like enemy near the dock area. This is faster and inflicts bleed, but it's less dangerous than the spider monkeys to be honest.
- Gavlin has moved to the shortcut between houses in No Man's Wharf.
- Lucatiel is now inside one of the earlier houses in No Man's Wharf.
- The Sublime Bone dust from heidi's has now been moved to a chest in the pathway between heidi's and no man's wharf.
- No Man's Wharf now has a wooden bridge you can kick down to access the start of the level from near the docks.
- Wharf has a new summon that will heal you earlier in the level.
- Heidis' water tunnel area to no man's wharf now also has a new petrified corpse blocking a pathway.
- The Lost Bastille Eagle Entrance is where you can find the Dull Ember now.
- Old Man Mcduff now sells unlimited Large Titanite Shards for 2500 each, making them easier to find than the smaller counterparts until Iron Keep has been beaten.
- Belfry Luna now has it's prize be a few good items and the southern ritual band. The Bastille key has been moved to an area under some barrels right after the ruin sentinels fight, and a thorough searching of the lost bastille has 3 flame butterflies as loot.
- The Lost Bastille now has the Ruin Sentinels blocked by a petrified corpse, with a fragrant branch nearby in a chest being guarded by a pursuer.
- A Pursuer appears at least 3 times in the Lost Bastille. Each can be run past, and since one of them is guarding an important chest this may be recommended.
- Belfry Luna now has a summon to help with the Gargoyles fight (makes it A LOT easier and I beat on 3rd try).
- The abominations in sinner's rise have been replaced by a flexile sentry, and you can get an extra ai summon in this area.

So, I started playing Shoadowrun Returns, and I was wondering if you've ever reviewed / Discussed it. I'm no good at searching through archives for it, but I'd like to hear your opinions on the game / series.

My advice? Skip Shadowrun Returns and go straight into Shadowrun Dragonfall. It's the better game by far.

Old Iron Keep is sending mixed messages today. Dropped a blacksteel katana on the first guy I killed. Then it made me rage quit before getting 5 minutes in. ..... Yay?

I mean I have 40 dex so I'll take it but I have no idea how I'll beat this area. I ended up going all the way through mid Tseldora because of that (from nothing down that path). The alonne knights in the first area now have a massive aggro range and do very large amounts of damage, to the point where I just find it semi ridiculous. This has obviously been designed to be a lot harder.

Two things:

1. I've been playing a couple of good mobile games lately and wonder if maybe I should make a thread for mobile games? Examples include Ephemerid, Ascension, and the newest update of Monument Valley.

2. Humble Bundle was having an anime sale. I bought Hunie Pop. Gods above help me.

How to beat Demons Souls as fast as possible.

Step 1: Choose the royalty class. Best starting equipment, start with a 50K soul ring, and has access to op magic in the early game that either one shots or almost one shots everything in world 1-1 (1 or 2 hits to kill anything not shielding).

Step 2: Beat World 1-1. Hopefully without dying. If you can beat the entire thing without dying you can put all your points into Magic and get a huge damage boost (which I would recommend).

Notable things you want to get/do (google):
- Cling Ring
- Jade Hair Ornament
- Thief's Ring
- Save Ostrava
- Pick up Firebombs to help beat the Phalanx
- Unlock both shortcuts

The cling ring can be gotten by opening the first shortcut gate and taking it from the body there, while the jade hair ornament can be found by cutting down the two bodies halfway up the first shortcut tower and then retrieving the loot from down below, right next to where you find the cling ring.

The Thief's Ring can be found by rolling down to where Ostrava is. You can then easily use magic to kill all the enemies he goes after until he is strolling around an empty area. Warning: If you die he can die. If he dies and you don't get the item from his corpse, you are locked out of an optional area in World 1-1 much later into the game.

Firebombs are found strewn throughout the level, and they GREATLY help against the boss since a good dose of firebombs between munching on grass will let you safely kill enough of the phalanx enemies QUICKLY and make the boss trivial. Magic helps here also, but it's not as good. Without either this boss is a bit of a slog this early in the game, and you have to beat it before you can unlock the ability to level up.

The second shortcut is found from the top of the dragon bridge down back to where you fight the boss. The importance of this is that you will be able to use it to get to some important items later in the game.

Step 3: Get the Crescent Falchion +1 from World 4-1.

As soon as you go through the fog gate in front of the vanguard, go left inside the castle wall and then outside at the first tower to fight a black skeleton guarding a corpse. This is the Crescent Falchion +1, and it's the most powerful weapon you can find this early in the game. It's also just **** powerful, since it's a freaking level 7 weapon.

It's also remarkably easy to upgrade to +4, since if you rescue the merchant from 4-1 you can have it to +4 solely by farming the area at the beginning of 4-2, no other upgrade materials needed. This makes it probably the most powerful weapon in the game that doesn't require a ton of effort to get any use out of AND since it only scales off of your magic stat you can basically dump all your stats into Health and Magic Damage once you have the bare minimum you need to use the other items you want. BUT WAIT. THERE IS MORE. Having it equipped and out causes your mp bar to regen, and this stacks with the fragrant ring that you start with as a royal. Neato huh?

It is at this point in time that if you got all the way through the level, you should have another 4K souls or so again. I highly recommend stopping whatever leveling path you were on to raise your strength to 15. This will let you use one of the best bows in the game, which we will get in step 5. After you have 15 strength, your dex is already at the min so I just raise Health and Magic here. It should be noted that at some point we want to raise Intelligence to 24, but that can easily wait until 4-2 is available. Eventual goal is 30/24/min/15/min/30/min/min for leveling stats, at which point we can start raising other things but we'll probably be done with the 1st playthrough before we ever get there bar grinding.

And .... that's 1:16 hours into the game.

Cmon Jack, you're not really a dedicated gamer until you've done your time in a souls or souls-esque game while you're too sick to even think or move.

I cannot feasibly achieve the angle required to do such a thing at the current point in time.
