A momentary look of confusion passes over Iados' features at the girls response. By this point he was all but used to being ignored by the general populace - simple conversation wasn't something he had had much time to refine. It takes him a moment longer to realize he hadn't actually responded yet. "Sorry. Iados. My name is Iados. It is good to meet you Amycipus." The paladin gives a short bow though he does not take the child's hand.

Luka nodded solemnly. "Indeed, that should be more than enough, although if I may, I would also like to request somebody get my rig set up in the dining hall while I track down my comrades, we'll likely stay the evening and set out in the morning, in which case I'd like to put on a performance tonight. I'll give you a diagram." she replied, handing Kaylessa a piece of paper, which, after a bit of scrutiny, appeared to simply be a crude drawing labeled "Chair (for sitting). That's it."

Gesturing at Obed to stay put as she walked past the dining room, Luka made her way to back outside the entrance of the inn and did a quick scan for any of her other adventure buddies, and/or common townsfolk running away in horror gibbering about "monsterfolk."

Iados and Hexion

Amycipus continues to hold her hand up for Iados. "Can I ride on your shoulders? Papa always let me ride on his shoulders. We could go see mama!" Her face is lit up and grinning from ear to ear. She holds up her other arm outstretched to Iados as well. Hexion will catch up and be there at this point, seeing the young child, probably no more than five years old, trying to get Iados to pick her up. Iados appears not to be amused.

Dev and Luka

Kaylessa looks dumbfounded at the sketch of the chair and laughs as Dev and Luka make their way out of the room. She follows behind them, closing the room behind and making her way back to the front of her Inn. Luka heads out the door quickly (Dev may follow if you like) and scans the area. She hears some shouting from the South, obscured by the buildings, it's almost impossible to figure out exactly where the shouts are coming from. Looking South down The Long Road, she sees a most strange sight. Iados is standing down the road with a little girl holding her arms out to him as though asking to be picked up, with Hexion standing by as well. No sign of Kitar.

Kitar remains calm during the old man's accusatory speech and answers Harburk without raising the tone of his voice. "That's easy, mr. constable. This Grund attacked me twice and I defended myself. I was just trying to ask about the town's problems, which I was sent to investigate and solve, if possible, by the great Order of the Gauntlet." He shows a token of the order he has sewn on the shoulder of his leather armor. "My name is Kitar, by the way."

As Hexion caught up to Iados, he found the Tiefling in the company of a little girl who seemed to be asking, unbelievable as it seemed, the Tiefling to pick her up.

"Hey, Red! Where'd you find yourself such a lovely lady?" laughed Hexion as he approached the pair. He soon stood next to Iados, where he threw his left arm around the Tiefling's neck in a playful manner.

"Hello there, little miss. I see you've met my good friend Iados here. You see he's not the most talkative of sorts, but he's good to be around when there's monsters about." Pausing for a moment, Hexion gave the girl an awkward bow, one arm still wrapped around Iados's neck. "The name's Hexion, by the way, nice to make your acquaintance."

Before the girl could possibly return his introduction, Hexion turned once again to Iados, holding him at an arm's length and clapping him on both shoulders. "Say, Red, why don't you escort this fine lady home?" suggested Hexion with a smirk and a wink. "I hear there's a bird-headed monster about the town, and it wouldn't do to have little miss here go home on her own!"

Finding no real reason to stay anymore Dev followed after the bard, exciting the inn with her only to eventually be spotted with an amusing sight. Iados with what appeared to be a young child, immediately Dev breaks into laughter, unable to fully contain himself. "Well then, looks like Red finally found himself a friend, Let's go introduce ourselves yeah?" he quickly headed on by towards the other members of the group.

Dev and Luka

(ooc: first, a bit of retcon)

Kaylessa told you Lance Rock is about 10 miles South West of the town. Sorry for the confusion there, reading the module was a little difficult until I went and found a full map of the area, just wanted it noted both in game and in the OOC so it's guaranteed to be seen.

(ooc: with that retconned, we can continue)

On your way down to meet Iados, Hexion and their new friend, you'll pass by a building with a sign that has a ham being carved by a cleaver on your right hand side. Looking down the alley, you'll see Kitar, the old man Iados scared off earlier, a human woman and a large human man all arguing quite animatedly. It's a little too far to see expressions, but the larger human male seems to have his arms folded in a fairly defensive stance.

Iados and Hexion

You two will notice Dev and Luka making their way towards you, though they do seem to be momentarily distracted by something down the alley by the building with the sign of the ham being carved.

At Hexion's words, Amycipus lowers her arms and grabs hold of Iados' pant legs and moves herself so Iados is between her and Hexion. She meekly peaks out from behind him and gives Hexion a very appraising look. She looks up at Iados and says, "I don't like him."

Kitar

"Defended yourself?" yells the old man.

"Shut up, Rowland," says Harburk, pinching the bridge of his nose and closing his eyes.

"No!" Rowland replies. "Grund has piercing marks on his chest and his mouth is bleeding, and this monster doesn't even have a scratch! Defended my ass!"

"Harburk," says Jalessa, "Come for your shift when you're done. This is stupid." She turns and heads back down the alley, takes notice of Dev and Luka nearby, and heads into the adjacent building, the smell of smoke billowing around again as she opens and closes the door.

"Well, since we're not going to be finishing this anytime soon," says Harburk, "Let's all go see Grund and see what happened with everyone there. I assume he's still in The Market, Rowland?"

"Yes sir," Rowland replies.

"Fine," says Harburk as he looks at Kitar. "Follow me, let's get this straightened out, and maybe I'll finish those hogs with enough time to catch half an hour before my shift tonight." He begins walking back out towards The Long Road.

Kitar folds his arms and shifts his weight from one leg to another. "Well, I was sent here to defend your ass, mr. Rowland, much like everyone's asses in this city. If you could stop calling me a monster and throwing rocks on me for five minutes, we could easily sort this out and help each other."

As a shift is mentioned another time, Kitar frowns. He realizes that might be his ticket to get the constable attention to important matters. "Mr. Constable, why are you taking shifts inside the city? What is going on here? Maybe me and my traveling companions can help with that. Maybe even take your shift. You seem to be very tired..." Says the Ranger as he follows Harburk.

Luka stifled a grimace at the sight of the child. "If we must. Personally I've never been a fan of children. I mean, they're cute and everything, but have you ever tried explaining a pun to a six-year-old? Not to mention that like half of my repertoire has been declared too raunchy for adults on occasion. In fact, my old troupe once decided to try going super experimental with I Want to be Your Canary, like total theatre of the absurd. I forget the details, but a few of them still aren't allowed back in that country. Although I suppose it is prudent to make sure we're around in case Team Arbitrary Xenophobia shows up and tries to turn an easily explained misunderstanding into this whole subplot."

Taking a moment to compose herself, Luka began walking towards Iados. "Ah, speaking of which..." she sighed, trailing off as she slowly came to a stop, seeing some commotion occurring around Kitar as she passed an alley. She quickly waved to make sure Iados and/or Hexion saw her before she turned and approached the group accosting Kitar. "Come on buddy, I know even an hour without my glorious presence can feel like days, but no need to go stirring up trouble with the locals" she joked. "But seriously, what's going on with all this here?"

Kitar nods to greet Luka and repeats what Harburk does after the girl talked to him (He'll stop if the constable stopped, but will keep walking if the constable didn't). "It's more like the locals that are stirring up trouble with me, Luka. I'm just trying to ask the constable about the problems that plague this town and what we can do to help."

Dev, Luka and Kitar

"Funny way to defend by attackin' a guy who makes pickles," Rowland replies, "And who in the Nine Hells sent a half-breed like you to us?"

"Shut up, Rowland," growls Harburk. "And my shifts are my duties, so you can shut yer beak on that one right now, troublemaker." Stopping at the end of the lane where it meets The Long Road, Harburk is now face to face with Dev and Luka. "You two know this troublemaker?" He listens to Kitar address Dev and Luka. "So far, it's attacked Grund, a simpleton who makes pickles, lurked outside my house and tried to eavesdrop without knocking, and hasn't actually asked about our troubles, just barked on and on about how it is here to solve problems it wasn't asked to stick its beak into. Look, I'm a busy man, if you know him, you can take charge of him and I'll be done now. It causes any more trouble, and it'll be on you." Without waiting for an answer, Harburk turns around and begins stomping off to the shop with the carved ham on its sign right nearby.

Rowland stands there with a scowl on his face before stalking off back towards The Market.

Iados and Hexion

Amycipus tugs on Iados' pants and says, "Can we go now, mister Teeth Wing?"

Despite himself Iados couldn't but but chuckle. Honestly this whole situation had been so strange as to throw him entirely off balance. Kneeling down so that he is on the same level as Amy he does he best to give a reassuring smile before nodding in Hex's direction. "I admit I had my doubts about him when we first met but, as strange as he is, Hex means well. In his own way." He looks up the road, seeing both his rapidly approaching comrades and hearing the indignant squawking of Kitar and the clear sounds of an argument. Turning back to Amy he continues. "Still he is right. We really should be getting you back to your mother. Could you show me the way?" He makes to stand back up before pauses for a long moment a sighing slightly. "Come on then - climb up. I suppose I can carry you this one time."

Iados and Hexion

Immediately, Amycipus' face lit up at Iados' words. She scampers to his back and climbs up until she is sitting on his neck, digging her feet into his back all along the way. Once up on his shoulders, she grabs hold of his horns and tugs on his head until Iados is pointing North. "Mama's at the Inn, she works there!"

Dev, Luka and Kitar

You three will be rewarded with a very strange sight: Iados has a small human child holding onto his horns and leading him your way.

Luka flinched as Harburk snarled at her and Dev. "Well to be fair, sticking one's beak where it doesn't belong is kind of a prerequisite. Nobody ever clamors to hear the tale of Norin, the Mighty Barbarian Who Didn't Save the World Because the Evil Wizard Politely Asked Him Not to. Although I suppose that might be partly because that name is an absolute nightmare-" She paused, noticing the villagers had dispersed. She then turned to Kitar. "Well on the plus side I found us a real actual plot hook. I'll go into detail later but for now meet us back at the Swinging Sword as soon as you're done getting harassed by the locals. Speaking of, gonna go try to keep another fire doused before it starts."

She jogged over to join Iados, gave the child a polite wave, then said "I see you've been busy. Dunno what you've dug up, but got the rooms taken care of, and got some information to share once we're all reassembled," keeping a casual lookout to see if any villagers seemed to be approaching Iados.

Obed

"A few weeks later," replies Thirty-four, "there was another party of adventurers. The same type always travel through eventually. You know the kind, one infiltrator, one warrior or one discipline or another, an arcane mage and usually some tree lover or performer who thinks they can fight more than they can. Well, found me a new group, and we went and finished the job. Too little too late, but that's the cost of working like that. After I drank away the loss, I began to travel. Landed here a while later, not really sure how long, and settled down. Now, I just teach anyone who has innate magic how to control and foster their powers."

Everyone Else

Luka looks around, but it seems while people are pointing in your direction and whispering to each other, no one is approaching you. Amycipus tugs on Iados' horns and says, "Come on, mister Teeth Wing! Mama's gonna be mad if I'm late for my lessons!"

Iados nods curtly towards Luka, forgetting for a moment there was a child attached to his horns. "Sorry about that Amy. And good work Luka. I'll be heading back now I think. Town's had enough little adventures already thanks to Kitar - let's try to avoid starting the next one eh?" With that said he begins walking at a brisk pace towards the Swinging Swords, either oblivious too or completely ignoring the stares, points and whispers of the townsfolk as he goes.

As Iados walked away, Hexion approached Luka's group, chuckling. "Can you believe it?" asked Hexion. "She liked Red, but didn't like me." He turned to watch as Iados's back grew smaller, a smile still on his face. "See how perceptive children are? It would do the townsfolk well to learn a bit from the little miss."

Turning, he only them seemed to notice the others with Luka. "Oh, hello there Kitar. You seem to have made yourself famous around town."

Everyone

Kitar looks over at the spot he saw Jalessa head and makes a note to go back and talk to her if possible, and then makes his way to the Inn with the rest of the group. Everyone gets there with no trouble at all, though the locals are certainly beginning to take notice. It seems a giant bird-creature, a giant red half-demon and a bunch of loud adventurers make quite a bit of noise around a small town such as Red Larch. The day is growing longer, and it's been a bit under two hours since you all parted ways from the center of town to go find adventure, glory, or just a drink or two with a pretty young barmaid. Walking into the Swinging Sword, the shade cools everyone off a bit. For those who hadn't been in here before, there is a long hallway with doors on the left and right going straight back from the front door, a staircase that wraps behind the wall on the left hand side, and a dining room to the right of the door with several wooden tables, a warm fire that is taking the humidity out of the air, four strangers talking, and one Obed chatting away with a random fellow drinker.

Kaylessa will approach you all and say, "Your friends have taken care of your rooms. Here are the keys to each of your rooms." She hands each one of you a key with a number on it. Hexion gets room 8, Iados gets room 3, Luka gets room 11, Dev gets room 12, Kitar gets room 16, and Obed gets a key to room 2. Kaylessa will explain that the first nine rooms are on the first floor, the next eleven rooms are on the second floor, and the top floor is more open rooms for group travelers. Luka will also notice there is now a chair in the center of the dining room so it can face almost all of the tables at once, and each table can see the chair easily without having to move.

Ghileeda looks up from her conversation with Obed and Thirty-four and sees Iados and jumps to her feet. "Amycipus, get down from there this instant!" She runs over to Iados and pulls the girl off of Iados' back, much to the child's protests. "You've kept Mister Thirty-four waiting, and no child of mine is going to miss her studies! Go do your lessons!" Ghileeda gives her daughter a quick swat on the bottom as the child goes and greets one of the men at the table of strangers with a formal bow.

"Ahh, guess I can't get out of teaching you today, eh child?" says Thirty-four. He gets up and takes Amycipus by the hand. "Well, come now, we can work in the stables where no one will get hurt." He stands, waves good bye and walks with the child pass you all and out the door. Ghileeda just stands by shaking her head.

"What a handful," she mutters. "Thank you for bringing her back, she can be quite... difficult to manage," she says to Iados. "She likes those who are different looking, makes her feel like there's a chance her father will come home. Poor kid." Ghileeda walks back to the tables, the three remaining patrons drop a few coins on the table, thank her, and also head out the door moments later. Now, it's just you six, Ghileeda and Kaylessa in the Swinging Sword.

Luka cleared her throat, speaking up once she had everyone's attention. "Okay, so here's how the story goes: We found out there's a treasure on the Cairn Road, there's no doubt- wait, nevermind, I was thinking of that one play. Right, so lets just say a little birdie told me-" she glanced at Kitar and hastily added "No offense," before continuing "that apparently there's some sort of evil presence out in Lance Rock to the southwest of here. Sounds like it could be a highly dangerous situation requiring all the finesse and derring-do we can muster. So I say we see what else we can find out today, meet back here to share intel again and rest for the evening, deal with the inevitable midnight assassination attempts and/or other commotion, then head out in the morning to face-check the hell out of it."
