I don't know how hard this would be, although I suspect the answer is somewhere between "too much work to be worthwhile" and "literally impossible", but just in case... would it be possible to integrate the autocard and nga-autocard functions? like, you put [c][/c] around something, and it checks it in one database, then if it doesn't find it checks the other? probably check real MTG first.

so say I went [c]lightning bolt[/c]. the program goes "ok, autocard for lightning bolt. does lightning bolt exist in my gatherer database? it does! sweet, let's show 'em that." and the output is lightning bolt. but if I put [c]strike the mast[/c], it'd go "ok, autocard for strike the mast. does strike the mast exist in my gatherer database? nope! I guess it's an NGA card then. let's check there... there it is! here you go." and out pops strike the mast.

again, it is my suspicion that this would be more work than is worth doing for it, so I won't complain if it doesn't get done, but on the reasoning that I know nothing about programming and thus have no perspective through which to gauge what is going to be difficult, I thought it'd be worth asking.

This definitely sounds cool, but I don't really think it's a great idea. It's simpler, yes, but new cards keep being printed and thus it's possible that YMTC names might end up being used on real cards, which would break any references to that card.

Sure, this is an issue that won't matter for the vast majority of cards, but simple names appeal to both WotC and YMtC, so it's going to come up eventually.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

that's actually already occurred and, to avoid confusion, CKY already solved it by adding the set's abbreviation to the end of the name. see Rank and File [BST] (compare to rank and file)

That's the other way around, though, where a new YMtC card has the same name as an existing WotC card. That's an issue that can be caught right away. But if WotC ever prints a card called 'Strike the Mast', your link above would suddenly change card references, and the only way you'd be able to fix it is if you somehow remembered every card you ever linked and where you linked them so you could add the set code.

I suppose that's true, but if it's been long enough that I forgot about the post and no one points it out, it's a safe bet that it's stopped mattering whether that post has an accurate link. for instance, would anyone care if, in this post, the link to Palace Guard suddenly became Guard Duty?

yeah but a) the likelihood of overlap is still fairly low, b) it'd have to be used in a context where it was ambiguous whether you were talking about real cards or fake ones, and c) it'd have to happen in a thread that anyone still cared about but was old enough that its poster didn't remember. that seems to me like a pretty serious corner case.

Oh, it's definitely a corner case. I just have an instinctive revulsion towards the concept of history changing itself behind my back. Too much lost history in Wizards Community changeovers.

There is a possible solution, even if it might make things look ugly. You could put the set abbreviation for every NGA YMTC. That would ensure that the names never get taken by official names.

It would also be such a huge hassle that it would defeat the purpose of shortcutting the [nc] tag in the first place.

it would be nice if, when you saved a draft, there was an option to go directly back to that draft. I use it sometimes as an apple-S substitute, so that if I'm writing a long post and my browser crashes I can recover where I left off, but that means a whole bunch of clicking every time I want to save.

:duel:

PS: also would be nice if saving a draft defaulted to overwriting previous versions of that draft, with maybe a checkbox you can undo to preserve them. but I think most of the time if you're saving another draft you don't need the first one anymore.

Is there a reason that there is a waiting period for sending multiple PMs to different people? It's terribly inconvenient.

I don't see a setting for that on the control panel, so it might be something built into the software. Probably an anti-spam measure.

Let us say the cathedral ward looks like this.

X1 X2 X3

X4
X8 X5
X7
X6

I want people to be able to see that without having to quote it.

Tables?

I didn't even know the forum had a table feature. What is that for?

In case I didn't make it clear (I'm honestly not sure), all I really want is for the forum not to delete my white space. That above is an excerpt from a little Aascii map I tried to draw over in "Other Games Central". <- Because the white space got deleted, you can't see what the heck I'm talking about. This is a repeated problem for me, and I don't want to have to use an overly complicated workaround when this:

X X
-------------------------
X X

should be something I can use to describe the valley of the drakes instead of a weird dotted line.

Can we get the forum search feature to stop rejecting phrases because they contain common words? I did a series of posts title "Just Some Cards", but if I search for "Just Some Cards" (with the quotation marks around the phrase) the search engine tells me that "Just", "Some" and "cards" are too common of words to search for.

That 'feature' has now been disabled; to make this change effective the board needs to regenerate its search index. This will likely take a few hours and in the meantime search will not work well is now finished.

Do you find the results you get now to be more or less useful?
