If I understood correctly, you said that if the intention is fanservice, fanservice is ok. Well, against that I cannot disagree.

I was more saying I don't mind a show using fanservice as episode padding where it doesn't get in the way of the content. Just because they intend something to be fanservice does not make it acceptable in my book.

I will try to exemplify. I am watching now Mirai Mikki, but I only watched 6 episodes. Mirai Nikki has fanservice, but it is very light, and almost every time plot related, for example, a rape scene. On the other hand, an anime that I stopped watching is Freezing. It has almost no plot, the only plot appears to be: Let's strip the girls naked every time we can. This is one I could not watch for more than 4 or 5 episodes.
Most of time I always regret when I try to watch something without reading reviews first.

Unfortunately I don't have an example of something that stays in the middle of both anime. In other words, it has a good plot, but it is filled with fanservice. But I only watched something between 40 to 50 animes, and a good part of those are old ones like Saint Seyia, Tenchi Muyo!, Shurato, Patlabor and Yu-Yu-Hakusho.

Freezing does actually have a plot.
It just goes about it in a real roundabout way, while showing as much skin as possible.
Then again, I never watched the anime, so IDK if it's worse there.

I sincerely doubt it, but I didn't watch it more than a few episodes. Now if the plot is on the same level of Queen's Blade (this one I watched it until the end), it is the same of not having one for me.

I've never seen Queen's Blade, but there is a lot of development later.
We do get to see a lot into Satellizer's past (which was probably disturbing, but I happened to skip those chapters). Last I remember, we were getting to know a bit more about Kazuya's birth. Again, it's rather disturbing.

Sorry, but what I saw is enough to believe the anime is utter crap. I don't have any intention of resuming to watch it. A meager plot is simply not enough.

Freezing does actually have a plot.

Plot is a bit generous. It's pretty weak on plot.

On the other hand, the worldbuilding was alright, but it was basically just a T&A show.

Finished the Monogatari series (up to second series). It was a lot of episodes, but I watched them anyway, because I was hooked at first season and the anime is really interesting. This anime is sometimes really great and sometimes only good, but never below that. It is a harem/romance anime, but it doesn't feel like one. Drama is the biggest part and the anime is really hard to put into a genre. What is has in great quantity are interesting dialogues and monologues, this is the best part of the anime, but because of this it has an incredible slow pace.

My only real complain is the lolicon subtheme. It is supposed to be the comedy parts of the anime, but it is a total failure in this regard, and it completely doesn't match the personality of the main protagonist.

He is a lewd monster if you consider him as a whole character, but then he will not be very believable. When the anime is at a comedy scene (15 to 20% of time), he is a pervert character that is willing to do anything to gain advantage. When the anime is at a drama scene (80 to 85% of time), he is a chivalrous character that is willing to sacrifice himself to save others, at no cost. Both personalities really are not fit for just one character.

Then there is also the fact that passed the comedy scenes, all characters forget their actions during them and Araragi is still accounted in a high station. Another fact that doesn't match.

That is why I chose to believe that these scenes are just his subconscious mind since they don't really play any part of the plot. Even the most chivalrous character can have a pervert mind.

One girl is a ghost, one is some kind of zombie and one is a vampire. Now what he truly has is necrophilia.

If you watched the last thing (Tsukimonogatari. Aired after Second Season) you can ask yourself:
Spoiler

Its an ecchi harem anime at its core. I only watched the first season but have heard a bit about the later seasons. A large portion of the anime is playful banter and much of the banter is flirtacious. I don't think there's any character in the show that doesn't flirt with araragi although the dynamics differ a lot from character to character. I'd estimate a lot more than 20% of araragi's conversations to be sexually charged.

That's a good question, but since they are still dead (or half-dead or even less since I believe he is only 10% vampire), I believe so.

I don't call it ecchi. It has fanservice, nothing really disgusting or offensive, and definitively much less than other animes, and sometimes you watch 10 episodes without a single scene. The rest I agree.

Among circles who value creativity and innovation in ecchi, monogatari has a good reputation. There is no shortage of quality ecchi scenes in the series and it even had a lot of impact on the genre. That said, I will agree that monogatari represents a whole lot more than just ecchi, which a lot of shows don't.

I know there are episodes without fanservice, but I don't recall any 10 episode dryspell. Like Mown says, "did we watch the same show"

In Second Season, there is.

Yet no site that I saw put the ecchi label on it, but for the Nisemonogatari part. But that part was strange, and probably the worst part.
