it takes up a bunch of space and makes your post look like garbage

especially now that you can click the quote to go back to the specific post, being able to see quotes within quotes is not necessary unless you want an ugly post

I understand your point. Having multiple quotes looks worse in conversations and makes it cluttered. Having quotes within quotes can be useful for creative content however in terms of formatting.

Would there be a way to change the quoting options based on a board, Welder, rather than have it be forum wide?

well if it's a per-user option to disable embedded quotes that works too

Yeah, the current style is pretty useful in the mafia games, so a user-option would be best.

That is some great work, Welder. Thank you!

And I thought we selected to nest down to three quotes total as a compromise between both extremes (no nesting and forever)?

I prefer nesting, becaise I prefer to be able to show what someone was responding to as I respond ro them.

If the nest quotes are unimportant I manually delete them and it takes less than a second to do so.

I'm of the same opinion as BH. I like nested quotes, and find them useful in conversations. *shrug*

Some great stuff, Welder.

Topic Tagging:
When creating a new thread in most forums, you'll see a box next to the place you put the subject line. Click it and you can select from some predefined tags for that thread. You can pick multiple tags; they'll show up in [square brackets] in front of the thread title.

If there is a topic tag that we didn't think of for a forum, please let us know. Tell us the forum and the tag. Keep the tag as short as possible while still being meaningful, because it does take space from the thread title.

Clicking the quote button will now make the quoted poster's name into a link to the quoted post.

I love this! But...

It doesn't seem to work with the "multi quote" quote buttons on the topic review while posting.

I'm of the same opinion as Bounty Hunter and Fire; I frequently quote other users to give my words context (especially since I generally only log on every two or three days), and their words often need a bit of context as well.

I also thank Welder for getting even more stuff integrated here; but I have to ask if the AF&S and M:EM doesn't have any because Ravenclaw hasn't gotten back to you guys? He started a thread earlier asking what kind of tags we would use, but he did get mixed reactions.

Yep, that's right. Once you guys know what you want, just let me know and I'll get the tags added for you. :)

Figured as much. I'm sure one of us will get back to you once we decide what we want. Thanks again!

Another possibility with the quote-pyramid thing is to do something like Ars Technica does in their comment sections (example). Instead of showing nested quotes, it displays a "Show nested quotes" link; clicking it expands the nested quotes. Sort of a best-of-both-worlds thing — the quotes aren't displayed by default, but it's trivial to see them if you want full context.

I kind of like this solution, as well. It's space-efficient while retaining the same information.

I like this as well. And greatly approve of it if it can be done.

Nice work Welder!
I have yet to get in contact with MisterP and his DOTP deck tool.
Shame the new forum over there scared him away.

That's a shame.

I guess I can set stuff up on this end in the hopes you do manage to contact him. If that never works out, we can probably put together a simple page to convert from his format to ours.

(This is still some time out, just trying to think ahead.)

Out of curiosity, do you guys have a way of knowing how often the "thank" button is being used on the site? I ask because I don't think I've seen it used around the AF&S and M:EM, apart from the once or twice I've remembered it's there.

Since I'm on the subject, is there currently any way that users are notified when their posts are "thanked"? I certainly haven't received anything of the sort, but I highly doubt I've been "thanked".
