among other things, yeah. broadly speaking, mod duties can be broken into two categories: bookkeeping and community management. the latter requires an understanding of the dynamics of the community in question, while the former doesn't. that's why we nominally have different mods for different areas: they're supposed to be members of their given communities. Scarlet, for instance, mostly posts in posting games, so they don't really have the background to get involved in managing the DotP forums. on the other hand, if someone shows up and posts a bunch of ad spam threads in DotP, Scarlet can go in and delete it all because identifying and removing ad spam requires no intimate knowledge of the community, it's just something one has to do.

the fundamental flaw of the ORC system on the mothership was that they separated the mods from the community. they were still fully capable of bookkeeping moderation, but they lost any sort of perspective on how to maintain and curate the community because they were no longer a part of it.

basically, the amount of mod activity we have now is pretty adequate for keeping spam threads, graphic images, and the like away, but I'm concerned that it's probably not adequate for making the community one worth visiting long-term. I'm especially concerned about the disappearance of Fire, especially when coupled with Alth's dwindling presence.

that, and also the specifics aren't the point and if they're brought up they'll become the central topic and the actual relevant part will get buried. if you'd like I can start another thread specifically about that issue though.

of course two minutes after I mention Zammm's decreased presence, Zammm makes a post. I stand by my point though.

I've been in Las Vegas for most of the past week. The Grand Prix was a blast, but super busy.

I'd gotten the sense you were less around in general recently, but I admit I don't have data to back up that feeling.

Two reasons why this is wrong:

1. the "attack on other user" was a post I used to make fun of door, my best friend who I have known for the last 9 years. Both of us knew it was in jest. He was actually the person who asked me to come back here (several annoying times). I understood getting a warning, although I rolled my eyes very dramatically, but then when I tried to explain the situation I was banned. So this was my only option other than wait for door to get off work and post here for me (lame)

2. I was specifically told by the head admin that I could make a new account if I wanted

I never admitted to being anyone, it was just inferred that I was a previously banned user because of my posting style

...and you went and did it anyway eh? Fun tip - if you've already been banned once and came back you probably don't want to start doing things which could lead to warnings. Even if you are just doing them in jest.

I just assume that by now people know that I'm friends with a lot of the people (that used to be) here. I mean the post was vulgar but I didn't evade the word filter so it seems pretty minor to me. I can understand why someone would give me a warning for that post even if I think its a little bit silly is what I am trying to say. What I don't get is the ban, I mean zammm said there would be a tighter leash but that's hella tight.

Anyway, you did a good job at ignoring the whole point of my post and just quoting something out of context!

I read the rest of it. I just thought that was the most pertinent part. You were told you were on a tight leash and made a post you thought might result in a warning. I assume that's why you got the ban. My apologies if it seemed I was trying to take it out of context.

I did not think I was going to get a warning because I thought I was being so obvious with my joking and sarcasm that even the moderators would understand. The post had censored swear words, and to someone with absolutely no knowledge of the social dynamics (aka, a mod) it would certainly seem like I deserved a warning.

Right. I follow. You didn't think you'd get a warning, but understand why you did. What you didn't expect was it to result in a ban. Got ya.
