Salutations Tabletop RPGers!

Not everything out there needs or deserves its own thread, sometimes you just want to kick back and relax with other gamers and chat about tabletop stuff. So come on in and say hello, tell us about yourself, tell a funny story, or complain about a horridly placed single digit roll!

Just remember that sometimes it helps to mention which system you're chatting about since they share a lot of similarities.

For those of you running games down in the Play-By-Post area you may make a single post here notifying of a game start, or open slot, but please refrain from spamming, bumping, flooding etc.

Have fun everyone!

Trying my first hand at DMing in person tomorrow night, with two people who've never played D&D at all before. Everyone say a prayer for me. =P

Its fourth edition though, so it should be quite new player friendly, and we're just messing around with a prebuilt module.

Good luck BH! Try to avoid arresting anyone!

Speaking of which, has anyone ever rolled a 0 on a diplomacy check with the town lord? I have. It went great.

Really? That sucks. Is it one or two problem players, or is the entire group having trouble showing up?

Dominoes

"Well is so-and-so isnt going to be there..."

I might get to focus on teaching the absolutely new player by herself. Or have two peeps, fool around with D&D and eat pizza. Or maybe I'll just take a nap. Lol

Ended up running two players into the red box, while NPCing two characters myself.

It went okay...lol. Everyone almost died to a fledging white dragon, but, you know how it goes.

Wait, a white dragon? But they're garbage. So non-threatening I'd bet on a fighter over them. Dare I ask how this happened?

They were level one and just running through the red box...theres a skill challenge dragon that you face and can either try to appeal to, bluff, or fight. So of course they charge in and hit it in the face.

The thing that got them was three characters all rolled 1s on their dailes and the dragon lucked out of some serious damage (for lvl 1). But no one died, so yay.

Well, turns out Inquisitorial Stormtroopers in Black Crusade are pretty nasty. Unlike in the tabletop game, they were providing a serious threat to the space marines in the group.

Well, stormtroopers are better armed and armored than basic guardsmen. The party is used to fighting basic guardsmen, who for those unaware are humans carrying a weapon with similar power to a modern assault rifle and armored a bit better than most modern soldiers. An Imperial stormtrooper carries a more powerful version of that gun capable of punching through power armor, is better armored, and has a slightly better statline, most of which is that they're much better shots than regular guardsmen.
The party, composed of some renegade space marines and a heretical tech-priest, was recently outsmarted by an Inquisitor, who had replaced their target with some stormtroopers and an Eversor assassin. Those stormtroopers were dealt with through proper kick-in-the-door tactics involving several grenades, so they went down quickly. The Eversor just gave them a shock; enough bolter rounds and it was a pile of shredded meat. So, they went on a counterattack mission. Generally, their planning was a bit worse this time, and they were getting hit pretty hard by the stormtroopers still stationed at the Inquisitor's temporary lodgings. I ended up altering plans just to avoid killing players. Essentially, the person killing the enemy most reliably was the Chosen with a heavy bolter.
In the end, my biggest disappointment was that they reverted to "shoot first, ask questions never" and thus missed some plot advancement. And that they considered any plan to try (and fail) to assassinate an Inquisitor other than the use of all available force to be a nearly perfect plan.

Hey gang, just so everyone is aware:

We have installed a 'tag' feature for when you create new threads. There is now a box next to the thread title field which has a drop down menu full of preset tags.

If you can think of any useful tags we missed, just swing by the metaboard and let us know, or PM one of the moderators for your section of the boards directly!

Thanks.

Black Crusade. It's one of the 40k RPGs, with the protagonist perspective being the forces of Chaos and assorted renegades.

That sounds rather interesting actually. Shall definitely have to read up on that when I have the time.

Any decent videos of it being played out there?

You can find pretty much anything on the Internet, so probably. I have no interest in watching someone else play an RPG, so I've never looked. Like most of the 40k RPGs, it has pretty high lethality combat. Thanks to the fact that both Astartes and humans are playable, it can emulate any of the others from the other side of the Long War, though, which is an interesting touch.

Yeah I dont particually care to sit and watch other people play, but I usually have some sort of something playing on my other monitor that i halfway pay attention to, so recently I've been tossing up videos of D&D Next, or Chris Perkins DMing advice and such just to learn some stuff casually while working on other things either on this site, or elsewhere.

I've never actually seen 40K played to be honest. But I always thought it sounded cool.
