I think I can see your point. Do you mean that going for stuff that can add any color of mana is so much easier than "diversifying" that players won't bother with the latter? If that's what you mean, I think you actually changed my mind.

Well the card is green so it's already in the color of mana fixing and ramp stuff, you cab likely play around the drawback so easily that it barely matters, and you get huge amounts of mana pretty early. If it's printed in a format with less mana fixing or something then maybe it would be a neat build-around-me.

It actually doesn't work with ancient ziggurat , cavern of souls and pillar of the paruns ,is sort of unexciting with tendo ice bridge and domain decks in modern are generally aggro, add that you have to wait until the next upkeep to get the reduction and I'm not sure that it's that trivial to build around it, but have you seen the thread title?

Something like birds of paradise should probably not exist in the same environment as this card, probably in favour of a noble hierarch/Rattleclaw Mystic variant.

I thought the thread title was just self doubt in your card ability or something.

It's more of a place to post the more (often unnecessarily) complicated design.

How can you say a card is not interesting because a deck that plays it has a way to use it? Were you expecting the opponent's choice to be part of a mind game rather than a simple power balance?

You could always do something like ": Add :8: to your mana pool." although it's not exactly the same thing.

If you want the mind game you could have a condition like "you can't cast spells of the chosen color this turn."

It's not interesting because the drawback is an illusion.

Name :3::w::w:
Enchantment(r)
At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, put a bless counter on cardname, then you can remove any number of bless counters from it, and for each counter removed this way, until the end of your next turn, whenever a source controlled by that opponent would deal damage to you or to a creature you control, prevent 1 of that damage.

I think it's similar in power or weaker than curse of the night hold, so the mana cost shouldn't be too low.
Might be a design space deep enough to be a cycle.

Sudden flood :ur::ur::ur:
Sorcery(R)
Cardname deals 4 damage to each creature. If a creature dealt damage this way would die this turn, return it to it's owner hand instead.

Laziest cycle ever

:2::Color:
Creature (U)
Keyword
Exile cardname from your hand: add :color: to your mana pool, spend this mana only to cast creature cards with keyword, you may cast cardname from exile during your next turn.
2/2

And something really bad just because.

:2r::2r:
Sorcery
All nonland permanents you control phase out until this spell finishes resolving, then deal X damage to target player or creature, where x is the number of nonbasic lands you control multiplied by the number of non-forest,non-plain,non-insland,non-swamp mountains you control.

A four color card:

prelude to greatness :w::u::b::r:
Enchantment
Whenever you cast a five colored instant or sorcery spell ,copy it, you may choose new targets for the copy.
Whenever a five colored nontoken permanent you control enters the battlefield,put a token that is a copy of it on the battlefield.

Why would a four color card care about five colored cards.
I do like that it's an interesting condition, but this imply feels that it should be a 5 color card as well :/

But then it would cost 5 mana, and you couldn't chain maelstrom archangel or reaper king to it the next turn.
It should probably be a 3 mana artifact or a 4 mana artifact with :t:add one mana of any color, but since being able to cost 4 mana is what sets 4 color cards apart from 5 color cards the most...

Nicol bolas, busy elsewhere :r::u::b:
planeswalker- nicol bolas

+1 draw a card,you can't activate loyalty abilities of cardname during your next turn.
-2 cardname deals 3 damage to target creature,until the end of the next turn whenever a card is sent to an opponent graveyard,if it was not sent there from a library, exile it and put a loyalty counter on this card .
-5 exile cardname, put a legendary 4/4 red dragon token with flying named sarkhan and a legendary 3/3 colorless artifact human token with indestructble named tezzeret on the battlefield.
Loyalty: 3

Not sure about the name, flavor is that he really doesn't want to be buggered off by you and your requests.

Why does Bolas gain loyalty from things dying?

I was trying to convey that he kept the exiled things for himself.

It started with 4 loyalty and the plus 1 as a minus 1, but with foul loyalty the burn felt too much powerful.
