razorborne just finished his newest set, Fleets of Ossia, a set about warring island nations. We're busy playtesting over Cockatrice, but I thought it'd be fun to do a community draft with the set similar to all the WOTC produced sets we community draft. Anyway, you know the drill: I'll post a pack, you post your pick. (Please bold your pick to make it easier to spot. And if you change your pick, edit accordingly.) The full set can be viewed here and the post below it.

Pack 1, Pick 1:
Argent Instigators (M)
Borrogrove's Blessing (U)
Oneblade's Buccaneer (U)
Magnificent Bowerling (U)
Swiftpad's Vessel
Crude Coating
Herdless Warleader
Farsea Adventurer
Burgeoning Heartcap
Tidal Echoes
Portbound Ancient
Mumbling Avalanche
Brownie Attack
Fledgling Herd
Swamp

Probably do about a pack a day for the first 8 of each pack, then double up for the last 6 picks.

I think it's between Fledgling Herd and Oneblade's Buccaneer.

We didn't see any removal spells in this first pack, so I like taking creatures that can punch through stalemates, and Fledgling Herd seems insane in the right deck. With this many cheap high toughness creatures Brownie Attack seems weaker than I'd like, and my reasoning for considering Buccaneer is that it's an insane two drop.

Alternatively, Burgeoning Heratcap seems good, but I think Fledgling Herd is the best card in the pack.

So, my pick is Fledgling Herd.

I think it might be Burgeoning Heartcap. It's probably decent even without druids, since a 4/4 hard to deal with.

That's fair. Like, it's definitely one of the better cards in the pack, but I think we'll be rewarded for drafting an archetype. Like, on raw power heartcap is better than herd, but the upside of Nomads seems higher than just playing a good 4 drop.

Other than those two, I also like Borrogrove's Blessing, Herdless Warleader and Farsea Adventurer. Blessing is a big pump spell that threatens to kill from nowhere. Admittedly the lack of trample granting limits it, but it still seems like an excellent combat trick. Warleader is a pretty solid top-end for an aggro deck. Locking out a blocker and getting in for four is very swingy. The Adventurer feels like severely annoying card to throw out on turn three. Think about how often your limited decks don't get to drop a creature on turn 2. Now imagine going second and having this played turn 3 against you. Sooooooooooo annoying. Add evasion on top of that, and I think it's a solid choice.

Taking Herd is nice, but I also think it's honing in pretty hard on an archetype, and even though I've been known to do that, I'm looking to avoid it here unless the card is a bomb. Heartcap is fine, but it's just a dumb shade, too.

My Pick: Farsea Adventurer

Heedless Warleader looks like the pick to me. That has always been a powerful ability and it is on a decent size body. Fledgling Herd looks like a card you want to pick up late when only you want it.

I'm glad there's already a fair amount of discussion here. my thoughts:

Instigators grabbed my attention immediately as a mythic, but it seems much stronger in constructed than limited. Blessing can be a huge blowout. I've played Herd in constructed and it's nuts but I worry about consistency in limited. Warleader is strong but I don't think it's first-pick strong.

I think if we want an archetype pick it might be worth grabbing the Echoes here, the Advisor deck is fairly insular and its pieces are mostly only good for it so we can get a lot of goodies if we take the risk. I think Heartcap puts us in one of the most powerful archetypes, but we'll probably be fighting for it, since green is overall a fairly strong color. (Monks are my current bet for abstract best tribe and Druids and Archers are well-suited to break stalls.)

I'm honestly really not sure here. I think Buccaneer is better than Adventurer, and I do kinda want to try Pirates so I wouldn't be opposed to first-picking one, but there's a lot of good options. I'm gonna say Buccaneer though, for funsies. if we do find ourselves in Pirates we can hope that Vessel tables.

You are first picking a piker? That seems questionable. I could see going deep on Advisers like the Walls deck, but I wouldn't want to start there in a new format.

Farsea adventurer looks like a less versatile Pestermite which is decent but not great.

Burgeoning Heartcap definitely looks promising, but I'm not a huge fan of picking a synergy card before we know what is open. the same goes for Fledgling Herd.

Herdless Warleader goes in pretty much any white deck, and I suspect it is roughly on par power level wise with any of out other options. So I take the flexibility.

I'm a huge fan of the underrated draft strategy of forcing archetypes. Sure, it kind of sucks pack 1, but you get rewarded for it in pack 3.

I don't think little aggro dudes like buccaneer and even the slowdowny potential of farsea adventurer are gonna be that powerful in this format? Herdless warleader does have good abilities and good creature types but I guess again it's just another aggro dude.

I think the best pick is Argent Instigators. There's very explosive potential of getting an extra turn without even having to spend mana, with an extra 4 power attacker to go with it, and in the worst case it will trade up.

I think I take Bower Trap here, but Jagged Macaderm seems pretty sweet in Nomad tribal, so I would definitely consider that pick. Still, I like staying open, removal will fit in any deck, and even a 2/1 with good protection has limited upside.

I'm all for Jagged here. I feel like getting some tribal interactions rolling is the highest good we can do with this pick.

Obvious trap IMO. The 2/1's upside is...small, even in a nomad deck.

It's between Macadam of the removal spells, although that red regrow guy is pretty good.

I'll pick Macadam.

A Grey Ogre, that in the late game can turn your lands into Grey Ogres, one at a time? That doesn't seems great.
