Code Geass never did much for me. It was an enjoyable watch, I guess. The ending was so hyped up and partially spoiled, I can't say it distinguished itself from the rest of the show.

The treatment of superpowers in Kuroko is so immersion breaking at times. B-but doesn't he only have 2 minutes remaining!!?

I really think Code Geass would have been plenty fine without the mecha.
I do re-watch like the last 5 episodes every now and then.

The mecha part is the worst part of the series, although well-done from an action standpoint, they are lame. It is always like this. There is a type of robot, then it appears a type 2 that proceeds to obliterate all type 1, numbers don't matter. And then it appears a type 3 that proceeds to obliterate all types 1 and 2, again numbers don't matter. And so on. It is a bad contrast with the plot twists and mind games that are the rest of the show.

The other problem I already commented before.

It probably could also have done without the infamous table-humping scene.

I didn't remember this scene so I searched for it on net. I guess I was kind of indifferent to the scene at the time. I have nothing against this scene, it was actually one of the few scenes of secondary character development in the series, and it was direct, and yet veiled enough for me to appreciate it for the insight it was capable of giving. Too bad there was not more like it, not necessarily of this sort I mean.

Now changing subject, I started to watch Planetes. I was hooked at the first episode. I am currently at episode 6, and it is safe enough to say that list of my best animes is probably obsolete. I will need a new list and Planetes will be on top of that list. Almost no action, animation inferior to today standards, nothing outstanding at the plot for now, but the characters and themes... WoW! Hard to image better made characters and there are plenty of mature themes. And better yet, at just the right amount.

I don't like Mirai Nikki either, but it seemed in line with the rest of the shows he outlines. As far as western shows are concerned, it's incredibly popular.

Elfen Lied is cheap, everything is there for shock value. It digs deep at your sadness, I compare it with the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hoisseini. Both hit the same spot.

The story is overly tragic, but very well-done. There was a point at the series where I questioned myself, they are really going for this cheap shot. And yet I watched to see how the cheap shot would be revealed. It is brief so that counts too.

My only complain with the series is with Kohta's reaction at the end, totally unbelievable unless he was a very sick person.

I didn't comment on that because all I really had to say in response was "that says nothing about the actual show". Considering mjack has a thread where he specifically sets out to review anime, saying Mirai Nikki sucked without saying why (and without having a review of it to check), really serves no purpose.

I'll probably regret saying that later.

Though I appear to like gore, so I've been meaning to watch Elfen Lied for some time. Right now I've reached the (first?) climax of Princess Tutu, though, and boy is it good.

You can watch Elfen Lied for gore, and you will be satisfied, not with every episode, but you will. But the anime is great, not because of excessive gore, but because of its theme. The story is about alienation, prejudice, abuse and hate, and it doesn't hold back throwing these things at you relentless to the point of being cheap. I liked it because of that, the story is completely different from the book I mentioned, but the themes are exactly the same.

Elfen Lied creates many questions about these themes and answers none.

Are we that create the monster? This is Elfen Lied's big question.

Ok...Is it just me, or does "I wanna dance with somebody (who loves me)" sound EXACTLY like the opening theme to YuYu Hakusho. I swear, every time I hear it I get super excited...then slightly let down...then I rock out like an irrepressible 80's child...

Just read True's post...Elfen Lied is incredible. If anything on the planet can make you feel something...it's Elfen Lied.

elfen lied is cheap formulaic attempts at being as heart-wrenching as possible. I wouldn't think that there is anything too deep there. I feel like most of the plotline can be described as "what is the cruelest thing we can think of? Lets make that happen." It was a good watch though.

Brownies are cheap formulaic attempts at being as delicious as possible...and they generally succeed :P. Like you said, it's a good watch. Not everything has to be unbelievably original and unique. I doubt anything is really...

That's a truth that I can understand. My enjoyment would not be the same If I had not read that book before, and just to say it, the book is exactly the same. The author wrote it to be cheap, like he was deciding what is was the cruelest thing to throw at you to make you feel pity for the character. Never watched anything like Elfen Lied though, but that's only my personal experience.

So in the end, my message is "The deepness is within you." Now I am sounding like Yoda. Good line though, I could not let it go to waste.

And that's the end of Dog Days''.
Only 12 episodes.
Very, very little Eclair. This was the season for Galette to shine. Gaul and Genoise got a lot of screentime. Which is what the creator intended. He wanted to step away from characters that got a lot of screentime in S1/S2. In that matter he succeeded. It is implied that Season 4 will have some more wargames (which were missing in this season because there was an actual demon war).

It was a great start in the first 3 episodes. Then went to 1-ep stories until the big finale in the last 3 episodes.
The big finale was a bit of a letdown in my eyes (except for the return of Sharl), but all things considered I'd rank it very very slightly below S2 which is still ok.

I finished Planetes really fast, watching almost two episodes per day and 4 each day of weekend. Really awesome. Really good plot, where everything that happens has a motive, great characters, and nice themes. I almost cried many times watching this series, sometimes of joy and sometimes of sadness. Best anime I watched without any doubt.

My only complain is... I don't really have a complain. It's good as that. I think they dropped the ball a little at the last episodes, but the ball was bouncing so high that it is hardly a complain.

Now starting Black Lagoon.

I am certain it will not reach the same standard of Planetes, but if it is as good as my old list, it is enough to be watched and appreciated. I read 6 reviews about it, 2 negative and 4 positive. It caught my curiosity enough.
