just because women like a thing doesn't mean that thing can't also objectify or marginalize women. the fashion industry is an establishment of social norms regarding our appearance and those norms, regardless what may be in style of a particular year are almost entirely founded on mainstream western definitions of physical attractiveness. certain aspects of the industry are worse than others (supermodels and runway fashion) in reinforcing certain body images as desirable or undesirable, leading to poor self image and peer pressure and all that good stuff im sure you're already aware of

however, fashion is also an excellent means of personal expression and in forming a personal identity. Fashion as an industry is often harmful to women but theres nothing wrong in fashion in general

I think the problem with men talking about what men's clothing they wear is that men's clothing is all generic and boring.

This is exactly why i didn't give a **** about what I looked like for a really long time because who cares about getting dressed up as a man, your outfits are pre-determined based on how formal and how cold wherever you're going to be is.

Unfortunately my solution to this is to try and find women's clothes that don't look awful on a male body and wacky emo accessories

To be honest, with gay culture being normalized more and more in society, at least in some areas, and with a lot of gays within the fashion industry, I'm not sure why men's clothing hasn't progressed further. Yeah, more money in women's fashion and everything. Just convincing current men that it's okay to buy expensive designer clothes that were the same as their old stuff isn't really advancing men's fashion at all.

Gay men grew up with all the same social norms and ideals of the male figure as everyone else did, I'd imagine that plays partway into it. The feminine queers like myself are a minority and all the fabulous gay dudes would rather make women's wear or if they design for men are runway abominations that are more like sculptures than clothing.

I do expect it'll become much more commonplace in the future though and really hope male fashion gets to open up a bit soon, I worry the failed metro fad a while back may have put those ideas on the backburner though.

That's true, I didn't take that into account. Male models are hilarious caricatures of humans.

I was thinking about that too about how being "metro-sexual" was bashed so hard has normalized this negative perception of males doing things that are "feminine".
