People will naturally pick up bits of the languages spoken around them and fuse them into a sort of pidgin language. But if every single person spoke their own language? You would need a different language for every family, social group and workplace. Eventually things would start to stabilize into city/region/countrywide languages, but it would take years. In the mean time most high level social groups would disintegrate. How can you have legal proceedings or run a large business when nobody can understand one another? We would become a race of talented linguists living in tiny nation states, forming new ethnicities and the world order as it stands today would basically collapse.
