Mm, yeah, Luna, I don't think it was totally clear that the point you raised was a different point than the point razorborne was making.

I think what Luna is saying specifically is "iLands can't just say buhnuhnuh* knows that there's 10 people interested, buhnuhnuh needs to actually get those people to show up and post here to prove they're interested."

Which is a thing I can agree with. So I think me, Luna, and razorborne are probably all united in thinking demonstrable interest in the form of a roll call is the best first step here. (And sorry if I'm overexplaining things at this point--I just wanted to double check that we ARE all roughly on the same page)

Hm, I wonder if this would be a space for discussion of Twitch Plays Pokemon as well :P

One big question I have as well is how does this fit with our (admittedly still somewhat unformed) plans of making this a creativity-centered forum? Like, that was an original goal, and various people and groups have done a LOT to actualize that goal in the form of projects like, most notably, NGA Constructed... how does Pokemon fit into this? What would make this board more attractive to Pokemon fan artists and so on than, say, Tumblr is?

*If people are going to put nonstandard things in their preferred pronouns box I'm gonna assume they're serious. [shrug]

That is definitely what I'm saying. I don't necessarily think we need to have 10+ people all come up here to the Metaboard and say "yes, I'd like very much for this to be a thing", but at least be able to make a link and say "these 10+ people all show up in these {let's choose an arbitrary number here} 5 threads and they're interested in seriously talking about Pokémon, so let's have our own board".

Also, is Twitch Plays Pokémon still a thing? I was never able to watch due to slow internet and by the time I even knew it existed it was already dying out while whichever one of the 3rd gen games was being played.

Yeah, it started up again recently! I mean I only care at this point really because TPP is the subject that first got me in contact with Hex so it's like sort of our weird nerd anniversary now I guess??

I don't know how popular this year's run is honestly.

Hex... That sounds familiar... That's one of your partners, right?

Also I've actually seen whole accounts of the first run of TPP that honestly made me want to watch it... until I watched the final battle and realized how much of the accounts were fan-fabrications. Then it made me respect the fan community that sprang up for being that creative.

Also maybe this isn't the best place to be having this conversation?

well, if pokemon cards are a part of the discussion they can have their own YMtC. other than that, there's the fact that tumblr is awful.

@Luna:

Yep, Hex is my game studies boyfriend :D

And yeah that's why I mention TPP: it had a HUGE outpouring of fan works generated from the emergent behavior of the stream, which is fascinating in my opinion. It'd fit in with the creativity part of our mandate or whatever.

@razorborne:

It is, but like nevertheless there's way way more people involved in storyline discussions, fan art creation, Magic roleplaying, and so on on Tumblr than there is here. The fact that that's the case DESPITE Tumblr being stuck together with toothpicks and spit honestly should be of interest if not even concern I feel.

A pokemon TCG YMTC would be pretty rad... can the game itself support something like that? It's not really open ended in the same way that Magic's infinite multiverse is.

you mean flavorwise? yes, it can, because there's plenty of precedent for more than one card representing the same pokemon. mechanically? it has fewer levers to pull than Magic, but it's probably doable.

I've been doing a lot of research. If anyone is interested in the card game, check out the Pokemon trading card game online. It's like a mix of "F2P" SolForge and Hearthstone combined with MTGO. Not a bad system if any of you want to check it out and see if you like it.

I would say the risk is the ages involved. NoGobbos target demographics swing a little higher than Pokemon's, but the serious players of the TCG and game step more in tune with out demographics.

I think what Luna is saying specifically is "iLands can't just say buhnuhnuh* knows that there's 10 people interested, buhnuhnuh needs to actually get those people to show up and post here to prove they're interested."

For the record, buhnuhnuh didn't even say buhnuhnuh had ten people interested. Buhnuhnuh have no idea how to build a forum or a community which is why Buhnuhnuh came to you.

I played pokemon Tcg online for quite a while, accidentally moved it or something so I reinstalled it. All my cards were gone because it seems cards and avatar stuff was playerside and not server-side which was super dumb so I just stopped.
