Pokemon TCG, pokemon video game, or pokemon in general?

I think we can do it. There are some posters who already play.

Why not just start a Pokemon thread in other games general?

Yeah, I'd definitely start with this. If it generates a lot of discussion, then maybe consider giving it its own board.

And then you'll be able to see if there's a want for it. The way I see it, there's not a whole lot of people here on NGA that are looking for Pokemon, except maybe the roleplaying threads that are going on in the Structured Play-by-post Area.

Pre-Edit: ninja'd by CommanderJim, but I'm gonna post this anyway.

I'm very much for adding non-WotC products to the community, but I agree about testing the waters before going whole hog.

my concern in practice for the "test it in Other Games" approach is the same as my concern with 3CM in Posting Games: being somewhere that isn't all that commonly visited (Other Games has about 6000 posts total) may drive down apparent demand. I'd say if iLands can get like 10-20 people who say they'd be interested in having that board, we should just give it a shot.

I suppose that's reasonable, but you'd have to show me that there are that many people interested before I'd be fully on-board.

There are two ways to view this: Build the spot for the community and the community will come, or wait until the need for the forum then make it. We have made forums before we had the community for it because we had the hopes of drawing people from those communities to this board. On the other hand, we had people make enough threads until they forced us to notice and make a space (I think of the Duels of the Planeswalkers section for this).

For this, I'm more inclined to say that it makes sense for more threads to be made to see how much interest we could generate from the existing user base. There haven't been many Pokemon related threads on the forum and they don't have an incredible amount of traffic either. Initially our main draw was from the WotC Community which hasn't been tied to Pokemon in any way in a very long time so I'm not sure if there is going to be demand from our users for a space.

On the other hand, I understand the "build it and they will come" approach. I'm not in tune with Pokemon communities in any kind of way. I don't know if the traditional forum format is something Pokemon, whether it is TCG or Video Game related, fans would want to use or are in need of. If this is a space that is currently unoccupied, I see how there is an opportunity for us to become a place in which Pokemon fans would gather.

Quoting someone saying "Yeah, if they can do what Razorborne just said then I'll be on board" and telling them that he just said something they should read.

Classic.

To be honest, there is a huge difference between an entire board and putting something in Magic General. I would support it, but as others had stated I would need to see the sign-up sheet.

Edit:
@Slobad, you just reminded me of the day that Jack spammed the Constructed forum with DOTP threads.

Good times. Good times.

I honestly don't know what you're saying at the moment.

Mayhaps you misunderstood me? I meant that if I can actually see that there are 10+ different posters interested, and not simply go by "this guy says he has friends who are interested", then I'd be on-board; before then I would remain skeptical.

I may have misinterpreted. my point was that I explicitly addressed that point, so it seemed weird to raise it in what looked like a contradictory stance.

Understandable. I have a horrible tendency to not make myself both clear and concise.

Mm, yeah, Luna, I don't think it was totally clear that the point you raised was a different point than the point razorborne was making.

I think what Luna is saying specifically is "iLands can't just say buhnuhnuh* knows that there's 10 people interested, buhnuhnuh needs to actually get those people to show up and post here to prove they're interested."

Which is a thing I can agree with. So I think me, Luna, and razorborne are probably all united in thinking demonstrable interest in the form of a roll call is the best first step here. (And sorry if I'm overexplaining things at this point--I just wanted to double check that we ARE all roughly on the same page)

Hm, I wonder if this would be a space for discussion of Twitch Plays Pokemon as well :P

One big question I have as well is how does this fit with our (admittedly still somewhat unformed) plans of making this a creativity-centered forum? Like, that was an original goal, and various people and groups have done a LOT to actualize that goal in the form of projects like, most notably, NGA Constructed... how does Pokemon fit into this? What would make this board more attractive to Pokemon fan artists and so on than, say, Tumblr is?

*If people are going to put nonstandard things in their preferred pronouns box I'm gonna assume they're serious. [shrug]

That is definitely what I'm saying. I don't necessarily think we need to have 10+ people all come up here to the Metaboard and say "yes, I'd like very much for this to be a thing", but at least be able to make a link and say "these 10+ people all show up in these {let's choose an arbitrary number here} 5 threads and they're interested in seriously talking about Pokémon, so let's have our own board".

Also, is Twitch Plays Pokémon still a thing? I was never able to watch due to slow internet and by the time I even knew it existed it was already dying out while whichever one of the 3rd gen games was being played.
