He told me in Steam Chat after we played a game asking me to guess which one he was.

I can't guarantee anything with any certainty or on any time scale--having mods go inactive has been a recurring problem on our end--but know that I'm definitely aware of the matter, agree that it's a problem, and want to fix it.

My problem with the current system:

Response Time.

I'm on the site everyday bar the internet being unavailable. I look at a lot of forums. And I see a lot of things. And Jack remembers.

In a lot of cases, something will get reported, you can see the mod reading it, and then they don't say anything. Even a moderate scarecrow type post like "we are paying attention to this; please be civil" is preferable to showing up, reading the post, and not doing anything about it until the thread gets cleaned later on.

Maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part :(.

I understand if a mod reads something, nothing has been reported, and then they don't do anything. That happens too. But if it's been reported ...

Note that it's possible that the mod is not, in fact, looking at the reported content.

Ok, then we are back to a time lag.

I can attest that DaleCooper is indeed primarily M:EMfolk, though I won't say whom. I feel it's not my place to say, and I'm not even sure if I should be saying this much.

Well, it's no secret that his territory is primarily the creation-oriented segments of the Magic community and not Magic General. I don't think he can be held accountable for this, given that.

Though this is a systemic failure of pretty remarkable magnitude, I think.

I'm not trying to hold DaleCooper responsible, I'm just saying that the team of DaleCooper and Kiki_Jiki is not apparently taking care of General or YMtC. squinty used to be YMtCfolk, but they no longer are. of course, they're welcome back any time they want, but in the meantime we need mods who are actually paying attention to the community.

also, while obviously the Matthew Leasure incident is the more important one, let's not forget that Colorful Mox, a blatantly racist and sexist joke card, went un-dealt with in YMtC for four days. this isn't just a thing with General.

Dalecooper is not the dedicated mod for General. Neither is Kiki Jiki. If i understand the system, Kheldar is the dedicated mod there.

I only remember five of the modes of the card, but was it really? It was, inherently, not any more discriminatory than Avatar of Me or Man of Measure. I'm sure this will sound insensitive, but if you get offended by the card, are you sure it's not because you want to be?
I don't think it was a quality post or anything, but the thread was pretty civil, as far as I remember.

racist is debatable I suppose. mentioning race is not in and of itself racist, although it invokes the common problem in modern race politics of viewing race issues as binary and ignoring all the non-black oppressed racial classes. but I'd certainly argue that aligning maleness with blue, the color of rationality and intelligence, and femaleness with red, the color of irrationality and impulse, carries some pretty sexist connotations.

oh, you seem to be correct. and while I don't know who Kheldar is out of uniform, in uniform they haven't posted for a month and DaleCooper had to clean up a problem in their area after a three-day delay.

I'm not sure if there if you can relate gender to a color in a satisfactory way in the first place if you think like that, although you can probably get away with green women as a sign of fertility. I think it's okay to have male as blue and red as female, because disregarding philosophy, the colors themselves are often used to signify exactly that. Such as the wikipedia page on gender.

I can't remember the last post I've seen made by actual Kheldar, but I've only seen him post in pbp games in the first place, and I'm not that active in magic general (I'm not even aware of this suicide thread.)
To my knowledge, Cooper posts occasionally but not actively in ymtc, although I don't know how much he lurks.

I agree. that's why I wouldn't try.

I hadn't even considered the possibility that it was an association with "blue=boy, pink=girl". I suppose that makes sense, but judging by comments made in the thread I am not the only one who missed that, which brings us to a discussion of how important intent is as opposed to result, and that's one that's probably not appropriate for this space. the creator may not have intended (in fact probably didn't intend) any offense, but considering connotations associated with those philosophies (along with the fact that red is not pink, so the connection is obscured) the joke wound up looking offensive, at least to some.

The card was pretty mild but the community is pretty sensitive. For those wondering, the card in question was a mox that did different things depending on its owners qualities, which included adding red mana for females and blue mana for males.

Red is also the color of creativity and freedom.
