Just watched Tokyo Ghoul Root A's first episode.
I have half a mind to drop the series.
For one thing, they pretty much cut out one of the better fights in the entire series,
and for another, I was going WTF! until I realized the anime is going to be completely different from the manga storyline.
That is almost never a good sign.

Finally watched the recording of Toonami's airing of Summer Wars. That was a good movie, although I could not help but draw comparisons to the Digimon movie several times. I wonder if Digimon ripped off Summer Wars or the other way around (or whether they came to the same basic setup separately).

I mean, to start with I love how believable the world of Oz is as a setting -- it's like if Google was based in Japan instead of the U.S. and then fast-forward maybe a decade. Secondly I liked the balance of cyberspace action with the slice-of-life going on in meatspace. It breaks up both into manageable chunks without overloading either. I must say that I was quite a lot more invested in the slice-of-life bits than in the Digimon movie, too -- I actually got teary-eyed at points and I felt a legitimate adrenaline rush when they were fighting the OP AI.

It was a great movie indeed. And I'm also 90% sure it ripped off the general plot from the Digimon movie. But the circumstance they put the plot in was very nice, so I'm ok with that.

More opinions! Friday feels pretty good.
Death Parade: Pretty sure I can like this. Got the impression it's sort of an episodic thing, so hoping there's a lot of character relationships being detailed. Although in that case, I'm not sure how the main cast is going to be shown. Not sure, but we'll see.
A little edgy, if I'm permitted to use that word.
Assassination Classroom!: Liked this as well, the concept has potential, as unreasonably silly as it is. The potential cast is really big, which I'm hoping they provide a lot of attention towards.

I heard on /a/ that it's approved by the manga creator, not sure how true that is.
I generally see it as a good thing though. It provides new content story wise, and lets them tailor content to the medium, instead of forcing a manga into animation.
Also, less spoilers.

Well, I've managed to reach the One Piece Toriko Crossover episode. Now I'm torn on whether I need to watch the rest of Toriko so I'm ready for the second crossover episode.

I mean, I'm certain the crossover episodes bear little to no impact on the show as a whole, but it feels a little cheatsy to skip that far into Toriko when the second crossover episode happens.

So Crunchyroll...
Get Dog Days pretty late in the 2nd season. Get rights for season 1 and 2.
Don't get rights for season 3, but use DD in advertisements anyway.

WHY YOU DO THIS.

Not that it affects me much. I'm in mainland Europe, so I never get anime anyway and have to resort to 'less legal' means from an American standpoint.
But still, as someone who likes the series and knows that some people prefer watching from Crunchy, it kinda annoys me.

That said, it looks like Season 3 might be a very healthy mix of season 1 and 2.
There are demons (season 1), but there is still a bit of fanservice like in season 2 (two heroes fall into a river without spare clothes. Cue in underwear drying in the sun with clothes on a rock.
When something goes down, male hero glimpses to female, shocks for a splitsecond but they quickly dress again to deal with the problems).
I can't wait for the rest of the season.

One of the many shows I've fallen behind on while watching One Piece. Still, it was great before I was entranced by the Rubber man.

On that note, I'm closing the gap to catching up to one piece. Made it past the time skip, finally.

Watched first episode of Shirobako last season, didn't bother to continue. Didn't seem like an eventful show.

I retract my statement of Yuri Kuma, second episode already felt repetitive.
Seems to be a lot of crappy pandering shows this season, but I guess there's still some things to remain excited for. Mostly Drrrx2

There's a time skip? I'm going to assume that is somewhere beyond where the dub is on Toonami. Either that or there is not the typical visual change that most animes have with time skips.

I have no idea where the dub is up to right now, but there are definite visual changes after the time skip. I would assume you aren't yet at that point, from the sound of it.

It's at the CP-9 base, where the Straw Hat crew is rescuing Robin. Keep in mind that I saw maybe a season or two way back when the 4Kids dub was airing and then just ignored it until like two months ago when I realized this is nothing like the way I was used to seeing One Piece, so it's entirely possible that I am just oblivious to the art change because it's been so long since I watched it.

I knew it was a right decision to be excited about blue hair-kun in Durarara.
Might share Orihara's sentiment about his sisters.

There is over a 200 episode gap between Enies Lobby and the Time Skip, so it definitely isn't there yet.

A genuine war in Dog Days? No game?
Though I'll only be surprised if the war is not solved in 1-2 episodes.

Also, the new character is actually not bad. I'm shocked.
It's more like season 1 so far. And I like it.

Well, Gourmet Girl Graffiti seems pretty self aware of its own "Moe Food Porn." Not sure if they are intentionally poking fun or just going wild with it, but it's great either way. Enough to keep me interested, at least.
