Well that is specifically my power. Mafia have a chat room just as part of being mafia - they also have powers on top of that. No idea if they got to talk as standard.

Oh hey I didn't know this was an actual role. Basically the same yeah except there are only two of us and we don't know each others alignments. So the other guy could be mafia or town aligned.

...Stupid inability to edit.

Having quickly checked the wiki I'm actually a Neighbor rather than a Mason.

Oh you. I enjoy my quips, even if no one else is. But I suppose since I've indulged Garren on making a claim, I might as well indulge you in making even more quips. You did want more than just a few, correct? Well, that's how I'm reading it anyways.

Niklor bothers me since he has been acting a similar way to how Hello World began in a game previously, which makes me weary.

Garren is being a bit overly silly about things, but then again, so am I. Hey, at least I did say I was having fun with the game and my claim.

@seTiny - I meant by my comment: Hey, look, half of you are calling me town, half are worrying scum, so some people will be surprised by the reveal when I die.

Everyone Else is pretty much just doing really weak arguing that hasn't made much of an impact on me thus far. Maybe I should be reading more closely.

Oh, and apparently quips are supposed to be jokes. I didn't have any jokes ready for this.... so....

Q: Why did the golfer bring two pairs of pants?

A: In case he got a hole in one!

Great. Two D1 power claims with zero prompts.

Last time I remember Garren acting like this was in Dante, and he was Satan.
Then again, that is also the only game I remember with him in it.
Maybe he just acts this way in mafia by default.
At this point, I have half a mind label him true neutral and forget about him, since I highly doubt he has the interest of any group at heart.

I guess Garren's technically wasn't unprompted.
Se_Tiny, for what reason did you feel the need to have Garren tell us exactly what his role was?

I am more curious as to know what drove Garren to mention the power thing in the first place.

And Neo, I assume you voted me because I was the slight mafia lean in your reads. Yet now that you think Garren is more mafia-like, you held your vote?

Also, s_e, what do you think of this 'leashing' thing about your powers? (Btw, is there another term for it? Everytime I read 'leashing', the image of pet dogs appear.). There had been mentions about firing off your powers or not this day, do you wish to let your intentions be known?

And I give that joke 7 golfers out of 10.

Leashing.... right. Yeah, you guys were talking about that. Well, my thoughts are as follows:

I originally said my power because I figured that if people thought they could help me make better decisions with it than I did the last time I had the ability.... well, I thought it could be more helpful than the last time when I believe all I did was kill town. So, am I opposed to being 'leashed'? Not particularly, but I will state that I am also willing to ignore people if the popular opinion is wildly opposed to my own opinion. I prefer to think of this ability and admitting I have it as more of a.... Poll The Audience situation. Given that we're running out of time, it looks like for the first night I'll either be skipping the night, or taking a shot in the dark myself. Probably the former.

And again, I have no joke ready, so I'll be going with another terrible pun:

Q: What fruit can't run off and get married whenever it wants?

A: The cantaloupe!

Oh, and since we are lacking votes, I guess I'll throw mine in for now:

Vote: Niklor

Since, as Garren said earlier, I'm always mafia, I can say that I've played in games where the mafia could talk during the day, and in ones where they cannot. It's up to the host, and, I don't see it mentioned in the OP. So, I guess it could go either way, unless Scar wants to tell us.

@Confused - my vote on you was to see what type of reaction I would get, not only from you, but from others. The reason I picked you was due to the scum lean, but, as I said, it was slight.

So, we've got more info on Garren's claim now. I'm sure the hesitation is due to my sneaking in soup as a black hat to the telepath chat in chocolate mafia.

I'm not sure how useful it is to allow just 2 people to talk, especially since they don't even (apparently) know one another's alignment.

Of course, without validation from another player, there's no way to prove Garren's claim...

The main reason I've not thrown a vote on Garren is that I believe he's already got one or two on him, and we've still got 2 days to go. I didn't want to add another vote this early, and allow the mafia to do a bandwagon, if he is in fact town.

Barring anything else, as we are getting closer to the deadline, he's the most likely to get my vote, tomorrow.

I don't see how this is supposed to be a bad thing.
Seems like a easy way to tell scum apart.

Hey Zing! Nice to see you joined us.
Thanks. Good to be back in the hotseat.

Quote:
Although I must say I'm kinda hurt about that accusation right there. I mean you focused entirely on the first half of that sentence while completely ignoring the second half (I bolded it for ya). You might want to re-read that as it's still early game and, to quote myself, people haven't got a great deal to work with. Still nice to see you here. Two more people and we can actually have a full party!
Wasn't ignoring the rest of your statement, but it was irrelevant. Saying "I don't agree with this methodology, though I can't argue with the logic behind it," only to then go and use that very same methodology, is tantamount to saying something along the lines of "I'm not gay, but there's nothing wrong with people who are gay," and then being caught the next day in bed with another guy. You said you didn't care for using that logic, so why did you? It's a contradiction, plain and simple.

Plus, you know, directing the Doc and the Vig are both blatant scumtells as well. But hey, what do I know. *shrugs* I wouldn't worry about it unless a couple other people start throwing votes on you, in which case I might change my vote anyhow because the first real wagon to form in a Mafia game usually has scum pushing it.

Love your enthusiasm though, unless of course you're so enthusiastic because you're scum...You DID get a lot of enjoyment out of playing Lucifer, after all...

The point in my questioning you was not to change your opinion, nor for you to change mine. The point was to see if you would deviate from what you want to do. By asking you to reason from a stance that wasn't the one you wanted to take, I put you in a position to allow yourself to look through different eyes, as a team player would attempt to do. Somebody pushing their own agenda, however, would stubbornly stick to their agenda, ignoring alternate view points. Which is what you did. This is where I became suspicious of your behavior.
Allow me to summarize this: "I tested your logic, and because you responded to my test in exactly the way I set you up to respond to my test, I am now suspicious of you." FoS: 15377

My "I ran out of time" was in reference to life, not the game.

Who is Febb?

Earlier, I point out that, were I the doc, I'd not save SE, as I don't think he's a good target for the mafia. Garren says the opposite, and you focus on him directing the doc, but I get a pass? That seems inconsistent (but in my favor, I guess).

Now, with that, Garren does seem to be trying to direct the game a bit more than I would expect for someone as town. Couple that with his "extra information" and it does start to seem odd.
Febb is a player from Px2.
You don't get a pass, but there is a distinct difference between telling the Doc to protect player A and telling him to protect anyone but player A. What you did was less suspicious because it still doesn't trying to pinpoint the Docs target to one person. Also, Garren tried to direct the Doc AND the Vig.

Inexperience mostly. I have no idea what use this power has (I didn't even know it was a standard power until a day ago) so in my mind I'm basically vanilla. No reason to hide a power I won't use effectively.

Also yay I'm apparently the villain again. What is it with you guys an immediately executing me every game? The only time I've ever survived past like night 2 was when it was written into the rules that I'm entirely invincible. Do I just write scummy or something?

I saw it more as 'Studying previous playstyles is useless for determining alignment - but it's not like we've got anything else to go on right now so why not'. Still I see your point.

Zinger2099 wrote:

I don't recall directing the Vig but I'll take your word on that one. Also are these really scumtells? I assumed the whole point of S_E claiming was he wanted direction and telling the Doc to protect a power role just common sense. Is it cause squinty's role is unconfirmed? If he was confirmed we'd protect him without a thought. I mean it's not like the Doc is going to actually save anyone today anyway - the odds of him picking the same player at random as mafia is miserably low. Early game doctors are basically useless.

Well that's because playing Lucifer was awesome. I could be a dick and no-one could stop me!

The value of roles that can communicate outside the game thread in private is way more than you think it is, Garren. It is my experience that such roles have the power to sway an entire game the direction that the secret communicators so desire. Neighbours are less useful than Masons, of course, but I still wouldn't downplay their usefulness. Definitely not Vanilla. As for Doc, I've seen Docs guess correctly on Night 1 before, and even if the odds of that happening are slim, when it DOES happen it is a big hit to the Scum team's momentum. Directing the Doc on any day is a huge scumtell, in my experience. Directing other power roles is less of a scumtell, but still potentially one.

My first online mafia game was Tales of Symphonia Mafia, in which I played Genis and was in a mason chat with our dear host Scarlet, who was playing Llyod, the main character of the game. I had other powers as well, being that I was basically a Jack of all trades, but to be quite honest I attribute the fact that I had the ability to talk with Scarlet that led to our town victory. Don't underestimate the power of outside communication.

Of course, calling Neighbours is a good cover for scum because if player A claims neighbours with player B (and both are truthfully scum) and player A dies and flips scum, then player B could be mistakenly thought of as confirmed town because the rest of town wouldn't suspect that the host would make a pair of neighbours where both neighbours are scum.

I could use the Nazi Bolas one again if that would be better.

Zinger2099 wrote:

That's what I don't get. We can talk - so what exactly? If we both knew we were town then yeah I can see potential there but as is how is it any different from just talking in the main thread? It's not like we can trust each other just because we have a fancy chat-box.

Wait that's a thing? I thought the point of Neighbours was 'you are masons except one of you may be scum'. What's the point if everyones scum? If we were scum we could talk anyway so it's a waste of a power.

I meant, scum who fake claim neighbours so that when one of them dies the other is pseudo confirmed town, is a thing.

As for how exactly is it significant: you have someone to talk to apart from everyone else. You can pick each other's brains about who you think is scum. You can plan. You can be informed of things through your neighbour that you otherwise might have missed in the main game thread. You can ask your partner for help wording things so you don't come across wrong. Other things as well. It is hard to go into detail without citing a bunch of games that I don't overtly care to recollect right now. In my experience, though, getting to chat about the game outside the game thread is always a very useful ability.

That's insane! I have no idea if the other guy is scum so why would I share anything with him? As I said if we were Masons then yeah this power would be all kinds of amazing but as is I'm not seeing it. Anything I say there would just be used against me. I get executed enough thanks to my own brain betraying me without letting other people script my lines for me.
