What retro gaming system is the best?

Why is English food so terrible?

This is a little difficult, since "retro" has an elastic meaning. It could conceivably include systems all the way up to PS1 or, alternatively, it could stop at the basic Nintendo/Sega Genesis.

Overall though, I believe the gaming system that is the most important of earlier generations is the Super Nintendo. Not only does it boast a deep catalog, it was also the first system to appeal to non-gamers and gamers alike. Mario Party and FF6? Golden.

Head nod needs to go to Sega Genesis, if only because the Sega Channel was immensely creative and cool, even if it flopped. Gameboy gets the nod for more or less inventing mobile gaming, and PS1 really popularized gamging culture with FF7.

It used to be very good. Then all the experts in cooking died in WWI, or left the farmlands after the industrial revolution. And then there was the whole food rationing thing that didn't end until 1954. It's getting better now.

Why do they cotton swab the guy's arm with rubbing alcohol before a lethal injection?

If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

When sign makers go on strike, is anything written on their signs?

Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car not called a racist?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why is the third hand on the watch called a second hand?

If you're in a vehicle going the speed of light, what happens when you turn on the headlights?

If you're a kleptomaniac, is there something you can take for it?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Why is it that bullets ricochet off of Superman's chest, but he ducks when the gun is thrown at him?

Why is brassiere singular and panties plural?

If you can wave a fan, and you can wave a club, can you wave a fan club?

If the product says "Do not use if seal is broken", how are you supposed to open it and use it?

It helps prevent infection.

If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

No, that would only occur if he threatened to kill his selves.

When sign makers go on strike, is anything written on their signs?

Sign makers would obviously make their signs before going on strike or, failing that, communicate their demands in their native tongue: sign language.

Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car not called a racist?

Based on the logic of your question, he should be called a race carrist and not a racist. Answer denied.

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Because many people are in a rush to get somewhere, thus creating traffic.

Why is the third hand on the watch called a second hand?

It measures seconds.

If you're in a vehicle going the speed of light, what happens when you turn on the headlights?

They light up.

If you're a kleptomaniac, is there something you can take for it?

There are a variety of medications developed for a variety of ailments, though I do not know which one specifically is for kleptomania.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Both, but mostly failed.

Why is it that bullets ricochet off of Superman's chest, but he ducks when the gun is thrown at him?

Because bullets bouncing off your chest says one thing, but guns? It's too comical. He's already dealing with wearing tights. That's enough cause for incredulity already.

Why is brassiere singular and panties plural?

Panties is singular and plural. Answer denied.

If you can wave a fan, and you can wave a club, can you wave a fan club?

Yes. Especially if that fan club is composed of fans and clubs.

If the product says "Do not use if seal is broken", how are you supposed to open it and use it?

By opening and using it. Note it doesn't say "cannot use if seal is broken."

...I think I hate/love you now. Just an FYI.

Why is a light year called a light year? Does it have less calories than a regular year?

Light years are not things you eat, though there is an effective "weight" difference between a light year and a calendar year. In the abstract sense, a light year is a mind-boggling measure of distance entirely separate from the self, whereas a calendar year is divided into easily measurable quarters at the end of which you're more you than you were before and closer to termination (death). So, to literally answer your first question: a light year is a measure of how far light travels within a year. To abstractedly answer it: one cannot feel (the consequences of) a light year, but can feel (the consequences of) a calendar year, therefor something measures higher than nothing.

Again, caloric intake is irrelevant. Though you could say someone observing a light year is more inclined to be a wait watcher than one observing a calendar year.

What yugioh deck should I build next?

I will defer to mjack on this because I know diddly about YuGiOh except that it's an immortal format.

I actually have to answer this one seriously?

Off the top of my head, some satellaknight, shaddoll, or artifact variant would be the best idea right now. Although it might also be a good idea to go ask people on a yugioh forum as well. It's been 4 months since I played heavily, and I basically just listed the decks people were **** about at length (well other than the elemental dragons of course).

@rstnme, It seems I have been pronouncing your screen name correctly. :( Why "rest in me" as your name in mario kart 64? Are there any other reasons other than you just like the sound of it?

While we are here, what would posses konami to print and/or reprint the following: spellbook of judgment, elemental dragons, and sixth sense?

These cards were all recent examples of openly broken design decisions that got banned almost immediately, and the card design isn't even done well. The closest equivalent would be reprinting ancestral recall, especially since yugioh is only limited by the summoning limit.

I was kidding about the yugioh question, konami has released an online simulation and I'm playing on that, not really interested about playing in real life now that my brother stopped playing.

Spellbook: to have a recent, sellable deck that could keep up with rulers and then only have to ban one card to kill it(thanks to the ridiculous search power the deck had).

Rulers:I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the mini ones being promos and having to be finalized early and they failing to remember rejuvenation until after konami decided that DR were how they wanted to sell the set thus having to change too many thing to not print them?

Sixth sense:meta was silly, so they wanted to sell the set without wasting precious reprints.

actually, you can play for free on duelingnetwork.com legally

I looked it up. Apparently the top decks are some sort of artifact shaddoll deck and some sort of machine pendulum deck with a stupid name.

Also, it seems power creep has gone far enough that they decided Raigeki could go to 1, instantly killing any faith I had in the game right then and there :(. Well, whatever was left after Goyo went to 1.

It reads very college-y. You tend to have declarative beginnings, the meat of what you want to say is in the middle, then you exit in a final paragraph. Just look at your "Typical System" blog post, everything seems to be hovering around this, the best paragraph:

"Typical System by Total Control is everything you’re looking for in a post-punk album. It’s noisy, the lyrics are cryptic without you really knowing what they’re about, there is sometimes some crappy synthesizers, abrasive in a catchy way. Total Control managed to make an album that loves all of post-punk’s stylistic tendencies without sounding like a greatest tracks compilation. Respectful to the traditions of the genre without being too much of something in whatever direction."

This type of writing (Intro, Body, Conclusion) is useful for grading papers and such, but it doesn't translate well into the world of creative essays and especially not well into the world of blogging, which is very personality-dependent. Collegiate writing, by contrast, is often devoid of personality entirely, almost by design. Also, it's generally a good idea to explicate lyrics/quote more lyrics when you're talking about music/albums/etc. Specificity is really important, it's why in my most recent blog post I banged out 99 different gerunds that describe various types of water.

I would say you have a unique voice on the forums, forceful yet thoughtful, and yet your blog posts seem like half of that and half info-dumping. Just be yourself.

Rest-In-Me. Originally created as my username in N64 Mario Kart. Due to character limitations, I had to be selective in which vowels I used. Additionally, I enjoy the hidden phonetic "enemy" within the n-m-e, as well as the structural similarities to Wheel of Fortune's "RSTLNE" given letters to contestants in a final rounds. (I'm a writer. I like words.)

huh...I always thought it was either "Rust and Me" or "Rust Enemy". Is there a scientific reason I picked "u" while Jack picked "e"?

I don't believe there is a kind of phonetic predisposition, but that would be an interesting thing to study/verify!

From a writing standpoint, there is an aural tension that exists within words/consonants/vowels, like the percussive syllables in My Papa's Waltz and how they invoke the beating the narrator is receiving.

People choose words and sounds that often reflect their perceptions, or they warp words with intonation to evince how they're feeling... like how someone will extend the vowel-sound on "Hiiiiii" when they're feeling happy/playful. It's likely too that the registers one chooses when forming sentences/speech indicates some semblance of meaning, and from having studied this the lower-vowel sounds (like Uh, Oh, Oo, etc.) tend to be about something sadder/more somber, whereas the higher-pitched sounds (Eh, Ee, I) tend to be cheerier, more tense, energetic.

So, it's possibly your perceptions of me influenced the way in which you pronounced my username, like you take me very seriously and I scare jack. Unfortunately, this is neither provable nor likely, since there could be a myriad of other factors I do not know about that determined why you perceived my username differently. So, this isn't a correct answer necessarily, but I hope it was interesting!

how do i become a famous writer like tao lin

You could start by writing every day. Also, your writing seems to attempt to engage audience expectations by either defying them, usurping them, or ignoring them. You might want to try giving voice to something readers cannot articulate unto themselves. Easier said than done I know.

I never took geography, so I'm not sure what your resources are. For example, in the south the bodies are often hidden in pig slops, and the sow later cooked for the dead vagabond's wife and children.

This requires introspection. Why are you considering returning to YuGiOh? If it's for the love of the game, yes. If it's because you have a well-developed meta to walk into, yes. If it's because you have a lot of friends that are playing it now, yes.

If it's because you're bored, or want something to do, or something to post about. No.

That's a yes then :).

Is Kingdom Hearts 2 worth getting if I liked the first one but only for the world and literally for none of the combat mechanics whatsoever?
