These masts have 15 feet of size or these are only the measure of the platform and they have 5 feet?

Just assume they're 5 feet.

I see no reason dialogue must adhere to initiative

Talking is a free action - it takes no time and can be done at any point. I like to read out the entirety of 'War and Peace' between turns. Keep the enemies on there toes if nothing else.

This battle is awesome! Too funny that the halflings all bolted. I can just see our party members standing there slack jawed as they scatter like roaches to safety and leave the party members as the only remaining targets on deck.

Actual game question...how many of those "stick to your head" life preservers are on deck? Might be nice to drag in some of the shushi that are hovering back.

Fair question! There are probably four on the deck;two on each eastern and western side of the masts.

Glad you like the battle so far! Though sad news: traveling again, through Weds. It's possible I can touch a PC Sunday-Weds though.

Non-realistic is good...realistic I can get any where else...non-realistic spells, magic, swords, orcs, half-orcs, clerics, gods, hp, adventure, and so on I am happy to get here. : )

You confound things, it is not because the game is unrealistic that it does not have a intrinsic reality. When something break the intrinsic realty the game loses cohesion. That is a phenomenon that is really common at many books and movies. That intrinsic reality is broken because the book or movie is already unreal, so the author or director simply doesn't care. But the difference between a masterpiece and a boring movie, in my opinion, is on little details. It can be just me though, but I do care about details. That is why I find "The Name of the Wind" a masterpiece and "The Lies of Locke Lamora" just another book.

I follow you, and I don't disagree. There's a line to be walked between expediency and detail. It can be difficult to find a balance in all cases.

I am talking about the halflings' actions. They should have moved at the same speed of every character, but they moved like they were each one a little "Flash". I understand the problem following this course of action would cause, but it would also feel more real. PC could react to their actions, for example, and try to change it.

Are you sure the halflings didn't move at the same speed of every character?

They moved on their group initiative.

Speed would be 6...or if they were running 8. Double that for a double move...so 12 or 16.

There were hatches between each of the masts (which I don't think are visible any more on the map).

I think any spot on the boat was less than 12 squares from one or the other the hatch, so they all should have been able to get into a hatch in one round, which is what happened.

I think Nolan and Lucian were standing next to a hatch, so I think Nolan and/or Lucian could have gotten an AOO if any went into that hatch. I don't know if any did. Otherwise, I don't think any of the halflings provoked an AOO from the shushi on board already, so there was nothing to post for that.

What would you like to have played out differently...or what am I missing?

Maybe they could reach them, maybe not, not sure, but close them would not be possible. But the real issue is they acted like robots with a hive mind, even if they are trained to flee that way, errors would happen. So the realistic way would be to make one stumble, one remained to fight, the door not locking, and so on... You know like a movie, or real life if you prefer. Remember: little details are important to make a dull fight feel like an awesome fight.
