Can we talk about how Aqueous Form is not amazing and is more like a 23rd card?

I think people tend to overestimate it, yes. That said, none of the cards in this pack are amazing and they're all 23rd cards. We just have to figure out which makes more sense in a red/blue or blue/green deck. In the blue green deck, both are pretty equal, it really depends on where are deck is going and how much heroic we get. In the typical blue/red deck, chimera is pretty bad. Blue/red is typically an aggressive or a tempo deck. Chimera is fine in a more controlling deck, but is terrible in anything that wants to put pressure. On the other hand, giving evasion to your guys and triggering heroic is valuable in aggro or tempo and there's no denying the potential if we manage to get a Flamespeaker Adept.

As I said in a previous post, chimera might be a safer pick, but I see more potential in aqueous form. There's going to be several opportunities to pick a 23rd card. It's pretty early right now and I'd rather pick the card with potential then the safe pick. If we pick the aqueous form and we end up not using it, I won't be sad because all I had to sacrifice was a 1/5 flyer (which might also have ended up in the board!) On the other hand, if we get passed an adept or two and we picked the chimera, that's going to suck.

In fact, I think right now, annul is a better pick than chimera.

Just re-iterating what I said in my edit so that it's visible. I'm now onboard with Coastline Chimera. At worst we put it in our deck and don't feel bad for playing it as it shuts down aggressive draws. At best it absorbs 20 points of damage over the game from 3/3 Wingsteed Riders, 3/4 Sphinxes, and 4/4 Hoplites, while still resisting everything except bounce and Sip of Hemlock. I don't think our deck is going in an aggressive enough direction for Aqueous Form, with aggressive cards being snatched up by the other players to our right, and we want a deck right now that can switch gears quickly. Annul isn't a bad choice either though, but I'm more confident in seeing more Annul's in easy late-picks than excellent walls.

I agree that it's not amazing, but my experience is that it is really good at finishing off grindy games, which is how I see this deck looking. Put it on Thassa's Emissary for bigger upside or on Benthic Giant and put your opponent on a clock. I've also seen the chance for a 2-for-1 make your opponent use removal on less deadly threats. Go ahead, use your Divine Verdict on my Emmissary because I'm going to drop a horizon scholar or nessian asp next turn.

I don't like the Chimera as much because I feel like control decks have to kill creatures dead, not just block, to survive in this format. There are too many combat tricks, trample creatures and removal/bounce spells. I've found that big butts in Theros prevent damage during a single combat step, then get overrun the next turn.

Then again, I've only drafted Theros 3 times so far, but all three times I drafted blue.

I like Aqueous Form with Thassa's Emissary (or freakin' BIDENT). Which we don't have. Not sure I like it enough to put in Benthic Giant. AF is also good with double strikers in RW. Neither of which we have.

Man this pack is annoying... I guess horizon chimera since our best cards are blue and it's a blue guy that's more or less playable. It does have one of the most useless activated abilities ever (unless you pump it some how). The WHOLE POINT of a 1/5 guy is to block 4 power guys. Not two 2-power guys. Although blocking 2 2/2 flyers wouldn't be horrible. I would not hate destructive revelry either but that's probably because 60% of my pod last night drafted blue (including me)

I'm drafting as another player now, so the tiebreaker system will be... randomized. The randomized tiebreak of awesomeness goes to Coastline Chimera!

Hello and welcome to... the random pack of durdle (also kinown as P7 P1)

Bronze Sable
Lost in a Labyrinth
Satyr Rambler
Triton Shorethief
Yoked Ox
Fleshmad Steed
Messenger's Speed
Defend the Hearth
Forest (even that's in historically the worst colour)

Ok. This is like the god pack. Of bad cards. It's like all the unplayables rolled into one pack. It's crazy. I promise this isn't a sick joke! This is an actual pack!

Let's go with Lost in a Labyrinth. If it has to be the 23rd card, it can be a combat trick or be a last resort to trigger a heroic guy we may get in packs 2 or 3.

Agreed, Lost in a Labyrinth is a bad card, likely won't be played. While we just, just might play a Bronze Sable or Satyr Rambler, the labyrinth card will work better in the deck that needs it than either of those two in their respective decks.

Bronze sable. Why are we taking an unplayable card over a 2 power 2 drop?

I tend to take the Bronze Sable here but it tends to never get played. Although intimidate is a thing.

I'm really liking Theros draft so far. I find it a lot slower than RTR block and I have been doing pretty well, finishing 4th and then 2nd on my most recent 2 drafts, all out of 10+ players

I'd take lost in a labyrinth though

It usually isn't played, but then the packs usually aren't this bad.
