So this is probably going to be in the future a ways but would people have an issue with playing in a campaign setting where human was the only race option?
If it helps the standard '+X Chosen Attribute, +1 Feat, +1 Skill' format wouldn't be used. The humans would be broken down into different nations and countries and that would grant them different racial traits.
So like the guys from the warrior nation with mandatory conscription would begin play with weapon and armour proficiencies while the guys from the bustling mercantile port city would get abilities dealing with trade, social situations and the sea.
Thoughts?
I actually did this same sort of thing except everyone in the party was Dwarves and it was a big underground dungeon thingy.
Dwaves from such-n-such clan and upbrining would get a bonus to WIS, where as those from another clan and who focused on physical trades would get bonus to STR , etc etc.
It is not because of the RPG per se, but because 4ed doesn't offer options outside combat that favors RPG exploration. Almost everything is combat related and that dampens the RPG parts.
Pretty much this. With the introduction of 5E's streamlined rules I no longer even have a reason to use 4E anymore (I used to use it as an introductory product on account of the easier rules). All it is now is a table-top combat game and I have much better options then 4E for that.
Basically what I'm saying is 4E is now dead to me.
Theres a podcast with D20Monkey and Tracy Barnet where they are talking about things and describe it pretty much on point with how I feel. 4e shouldnt have been an edition of D&D it should have been a separate product, "D&D Minatures Tatics" or some such where as when you start playing 5e it
feels like you're playing DnDAlso, 4e needed to be 'not D&D' enough so that WotC learned from their mistakes and made the 5e that we now see.
