I feel like Excavate might have more flexibility as an action word, rather than an ability word. Dropping the inherent tap cost activation style lets you do more fun things with it later down the line.

If you want excavate to work with different card types, you should word it as "Escavate an artifact ."
Does Lucky Braggart only trigger off its own ability, or any card you reveal?
Hmm, I figured it would be less confusing the way I wrote it, but if it ever has a hope of not having reminder text it should probably be written like that.
At first I wanted Lucky Braggart to only trigger off his ability, but it was sloppy...probably a little too weak that way as well. So it triggers off any reveal.

I like it as an action word, it looks better the way CKY did it. It also helps me see what you're talking about.
As it is, its kinda between Looting and Cascade in power-level. I felt the tap was needed to maintain an appropriate power level. Just those two guys up there give you a 6 CMC Dig Through Time every turn if you want. If I make it an action word and remove that limiter, I can still make most permanents require a tap, but have some more powerful cards that don't.
Having it as a action word gives me more versatility too. I could make Lucky Braggart a bit more flavorful, having his ability trigger on EtB.
Perfect originality is overrated and often ugly. The best and most beautiful cards I've ever seen were clearly inspired by something else. Cards are not entirely unlike living organisms in this regard. All the good ones are a result of long evolution; the 'original' ones are either mono-cellular or mutant aberrations.
