So, I brought up the idea a while ago for a thread dedicated to just gathering up evocative quotes from... well, wherever, I guess. I mean, the few I already have in mind range from real people to movies to anime to fanfiction, so I guess you can get them from anywhere.

I suppose I'll start us off on this whacky ride:

This one is less a quote than a verse, but it's always been one of my favorites, and it's something I try to live by, when I'm able. It's an excerpt from "Ye Wearie Wayfarer" by Adam Lindsay Gordon.

Originally, I was thinking to call you out on the clichéd nature of the quote, but then I read the line again and realized that it does bring a distinct feeling in me of wanting to know who is this general, of what war he's fighting in, why he's being so informal to whomever he's speaking to, etc., etc..

And on that note, I heard this from Extra History today and really found it really intriguing and easy to substitute the real-world names for fantastical ones:

Are you trying to get someone to canonically kill of Raven?

Absolutely not!

First off, Raven's puns are all beyond reproach. No right-minded jury would attempt to pun-ish him for them.

Second off, in a fight between Raven and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., my money is squarely on Raven. To begin with, he has the major advantage of not being dead, which Mr. Holmes cannot claim.

If that one Mel Odrum attic story I wrote taught us anything, it's that corpses can put up a surprisingly good fight!
