People play games for all different reasons, some want more mental stimulation while some want to relax. Some people's brains can handle more things at a time than others. So there are always going to be a few people who think Magic should be more complex, not less. But most people don't find the experience of their brains turning into spaghetti to be pleasant. Look at how all the strategy games are adding assistive AI (and even then hearts of iron 3 only caters to a tiny audience). If you really like being mentally taxed why not go on Wikipedia and learn some advanced math?
