(This thread, unlike many others here, will have a procedure we'd like to follow. Please read these directions before posting, whether you have a question or an answer. Thanks.)

Ever have a simple little rules question you wanted the answer to, but didn't think it was worth starting a new thread for? This is the place for you. Here, you can ask simple, rules-based questions and (hopefully) get RAW (Rules As Written) answers to your questions. This thread is specifically for Pathfinder. Various similar threads will be started in the D&D section for questions about the various versions of that game. If you think there would be need for a Q&A thread for another RPG, please send me a PM and let me know the game system, as well as some sample good and bad questions (see below) and I'll be happy to start the thread.

Procedures

  1. Please label your questions with a bold number. for example, include Q1. at the beginning of your post, assuming you're posting the first question of the thread, of course.
  2. Ask your question as clearly as possible, and citing the source for the material your question about is always a good help for those who may give answers.
  3. Only ask questions about the published rules themselves. Do not include questions about how to do something in your homebrew world, or questions about flavor.
  4. Anybody may answer a question. If you do so, please include the question number in bold (for example, A1. if you were going to answer Question 1).
  5. Once a question is answered, there is no need to post further comments such as, "John Doe is correct." However, if you think John Doe's answer is wrong, you can dispute it. Do so by including, in bold, the answer number followed by the word "Dispute" if you think the answer was wrong, or "Additional" if you can add more information. For example, A1. Dispute or A1. Additional
  6. If you provided the original answer (for example, if you're John Doe in the above example) and somebody disputes your answer, do not take it personally. If you disagree with the dispute, please start a new thread that quotes all the relevant posts and then post a link to your thread here so the discussion can move out of here - obviously it wasn't a simple question.
  7. By all means, cite your sources with direct quotes if you feel that's the best way to ask or answer a question. When making the quote with the citation, please include the book name and page number, and only include as much information as necessary for the question or answer.
  8. Please do not post a "trick" question to try and stump the panel. That's a fine topic, but not for this thread.

Example Good Questions

Q0. I'm building a new monster and don't have access to my books. What type of Hit Die does an undead creature get?

Q0 Are there any Large races available to PCs with a bonus to Charisma?

Q0. As a sorcerer / rogue, can I add sneak attack damage to my spells?

Example Off-Topic Questions

Q0. What is the largest city in Ustalav? (this is a flavor question)

Q0. What is the best race for a sorcerer? (this question is asking for an opinion, not a RAW answer)

Q0. How do I play? (A great question, but not "simple." Feel free to start a thread on this one.)

Alright, with the procedures established... Off we go!

Q1: Is there a starter adventure for Pathfinder, similar to that of the Red Box for various D&D editions? If not are the any adventure modules similar to that of Keep On The Shadowfell that are for level one characters and have a decent length and story?

Q2: What is the name of the setting of Pathfinder, and where can I find more information about it, or possibly a map?

A1: There are several modules sold by Paizo here. A few of them (6 I think) are even free, though some have strange restrictions on them, like everyone has to be a goblin to play.

Q3 Suppose a creature with Flyby Attack and grab (a Roc for example) uses Flyby Attack to attack a target, and successfully grabs them. Can the Roc finish its move?

A2

Paizo's official world is called Golarian. I think there's info about it in the unofficial Pathfinder Wiki, but the site is blocked here at work so I can't verify that for you. Paizo has dozens of books outlining the world. The main one is The Inner Sea World Guide. This page will give you all the products available about Golarian.

A3

Nothing in the text of the two abilities would pervent the creature from finishing its move action as part of the Flyby Attack. Flyby Attack lets the creature make a standard action in the middle of a move action; grab allows a free action after a successful attack.
