Well Joab, Lee and Vaeca have initiative, so thinking make some moves before the goblins do, then will be closer to them when Argun and co move.
Will post in a bit anyway (want to hear some answers first) and have Vaeca move up into cover. Will have him talk to Joab on the way, he can either join the side or go in cart.

Don't put so much thought and discussion into it! ;)

Your characters don't have nearly this much time to react and variety is the spice of life! Have your character do whatever comes natural and let the chips fall where they may!

I only paused because Joab doesn't really know what is going on yet.

I already find this grouped turns thing very unfair to our enemies, so just act in a way that you feel is helpful to our party and don't spend much time on plans, unless it's something gamebreaking. It kind of defeats the purpose of the thing if you try to plan ahead too much.

You are quite right. I'm being over cautious cause it's the first time getting back into this and I don't want to **** up. Just needed a swift kick up the arse.

The questions on movement still stand though! Will go ahead regardless though.

Don't worry. I will TPK us all when a fireball goes off on a wild surge. ;)

It is strange. I don't roll to hit, the DM must roll a saving throw for the goblin. Or Garren, when I make an attack that requires a saving throw, do you prefer that I roll for the enemy?

Do not worry. It's the first time most of us are playing with the system. Mistakes are bound to happen. We'll for sure work things out as we go :)

3 strikes. Damn. haha.

But thanks for the words, I'm really enjoying getting my head into this and figuring it all out!

Couple questions:

I was initially considering having a couple guys creep up the sides to get in position then Vaeca going in with the cart to draw the goblins fire. Then attack as they did...or a madman galloping dash flinging spells off the back of the cart. (but I think Vaeca talked himself out of that one. Also there's probably a bunch of ability checks to figure out for that)
Either way - would the cart have to stay (mostly) on the path? Or would it be able to travel in the grass/light green? I'm assuming probably not as its not a well travelled road. So then would Argun and Booker have to move out of the way before he moved the cart at all? If so I realised by initiative Vaeca would have to wait another round before moving.

Which makes me realise I better get him out of the cart and doing something productive.

Does it matter where on the cart you take his movement from? Or does it have to be from the drivers seat. ie. E3 or E4?

Let me know what you think!

Well I know this has passed by already but I don't want to make it seem I'm not paying attention. You could have indeed rode the cart off the path though if you were trying to do something dangerous like drive it into the attacking goblins you would most likely have had to make a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check to goad the oxen on - though considering the size of the goblins I imagine such an attack would be amazingly effective.

And you can leave the cart from any adjacent square.

It is strange. I don't roll to hit, the DM must roll a saving throw for the goblin. Or Garren, when I make an attack that requires a saving throw, do you prefer that I roll for the enemy?

I took the liberty of rolling this time but for future reference by all means feel free to roll the enemies saving throws. It's why their ability bonus is included in the battle data part of the map after all. Incidentally congratulations on insta-gibbing a goblin in the opening round.

I figured while I'm still getting familiar with the mechanics to keep things simple...at least at the start. But realistically the size of the force wasn't known, so try be cautious. Will keep it in mind though!

Would there be ability checks be for casting spells off the back of a moving cart?

Nice one Sandal!

Oops, I just realized I have +5 attack, not +6. That's my bad, but at least I didn't hit anything anyway.

Thanks. But...

Garren's roll

If this is the roll, the creature achieved a success, which it is a failure for my attack. But it the DM tried to roll low and rolled high, I guess it works for me. ;)

That roll is actually me covering my butt. I rolled the save manually (that is with the dice on my desk) as I had 7 tabs open already and didn't want to dig through the forum to open an 8th. Figured after the fact I should roll something here just to point at it later; of course I roll a critical. But by that point I had already typed up the response and I'm far too lazy to do it again.

Also please stop killing my goblins. They never hurt anyone! They didn't even have the chance!

Do I need to move my token or will you do that, Garren?

Already done. Though for future reference anyone can alter the map so feel free to move the token yourself if you wish.

Question: what's the size of the squares in the sheet anyway?
