You don't need to roll for the spell, but you probably need to roll a nature check to find an animal to speak.

Wouldn't it be a Survival check?

Reading the rules again it it sounds to me like finding animals is Survival. So I rolled twice - first for finding any animals at all to get information for the Speak with Animals spell. Second to search specifically for traces of rabbits for Joab's dinner.

Let me know if I did it correctly or if I need to re-do anything!

edit: I realised Vaeca is smiling way too much. hahaha.

In response to random questions asked while I way away;

General: If you ever make a skill check I'll be posting the results in a spoiler box with your characters name on it (see the most recent IC post). While I'm not opposed to other people reading it please bare in mind that that is in character knowledge specific to the named character.

Island: I'm form Manchester. If your going to cast a spell and can't work it into a conversation just stick it in a spoiler box at the bottom (along the lines of 'casting whatever') - you can also make any rolls needed for the spell in the same box. You don't have to roll anything for that particular spell - as others said unless it is an attack or specifically mentions a roll then the effect simply happens.

midashand: You are correct sir. Extended rest is usually 6 hours sleep with 2 hours 'light activity'. In the case of most spellcasters this is usually reading their book/praying. Being a spellcaster is kinda a full time occupation.

Ok thanks for the clarification. Will adjust as needed.

And no ****. I went to University in Manchester. Lived there for 4 years.

About 5ed, I have to say that these traits and background really help you create a fleshed out character since the beginning. I wonder when I will get my first inspiration point.

In 4ed would be a nature check, in 5ed there are more skills. So probably survival.

Ok. I just used my own understanding of it after reading the info for both INT -Nature and WIS - Survival. Seems to me Nature is more lore and knowledge, and Survival is practical Nature - tracking, understanding the local area kinda thing.

But I'm still learning am happy to get insight and get corrected if need be!

Nah your pretty much spot on with your assessment (or at least that's how I've always run the skills). Nature will tell you you can slow a poison with Kingsfoil, Survival will let you actually find some in the wilderness.

Quick question.

We are using our rations for this trip or there are some rations at the cart for this purpose?

I'm pretty sure we are using our own rations. Most characters start with 10 days worth with their starting gear, unless you went fully custom on your equipment.

What Midas said. As semi-professional adventurers you are expected to have your own provisions and as such Gundren wouldn't have packed extras into the wagon for you.

Notes of the Battle Map (contained IC, at the beginning of this thread and in my Signature);

First page contains tokens and positions on the map. At the moment I'm just using your names but if you find something you would like to use as a token I will see if I can't whip something up by bother BH until he does it for me.

Second page contains all the formula you will need to carry out your own attacks and damage rolls without me. When attacking simply put your total attack bonus in the green column (labelled 'Attack') and the sheet will tell you if you hit or not. Then type your damage into one of the available green damage boxes. If you have any questions please ask me about it.

And lets all give Bounty Hunter a big hand for this sheet. He outdid himself on it - a most impressive little piece.

That is really cool. Does the spreadsheet take the place of IC-thread rolls, or should we use both?

Still roll in thread so we have a record of it. Just means if I'm not around during the day (I'm usually not) your not waiting on me to tell you if every attack hits before we can continue.

I inserted a token for myself, hopefully everyone can read the name. It is pretty small on my screen, but still legible.

Garren, since we see the goblins from a bit of a distance, can I shout a warning before my turn comes around, to avoid the others in the wagon from being surprised?

It would depend on how initiative falls. Assuming you end up going before the goblins - or they don't break there cover before your turn comes up - you can warn everyone. On the upside with 3 of you spotting them they are pretty much guaranteed to not get a surprise round in.

Not sure what I just did wrong but tried to roll for Initiative. It was 1d20 + 2 and got 23. Which is magic and not maths. Maybe copy/pasted wrong or something? Will check it out and edit once I figure it out...

edit. I thought I had made a mistake with copy/pasting the roll. Thought I had done something wrong with the brackets. Tried fixing it. Now it re-rolled to 20 and left text underneath. I don't know what I did so I'm leaving it alone...

Happy to go with DM's re-roll so I don't hold things up at this point!

Your second one rolled properly, Island.

Ok I thought so. Thanks!
Didn't want to delay things just as the action is starting!
