I have a suggestion: add some more creatures to the $humanoid list. Right now it seems to be missing a lot. For example, it's got Leonin and Cyclops but not Giant or Cat (not all catfolk are leonin). I suggest adding:

Centaur
Fox
Giant
Gorgon
Insect (due to Nantuko and Eumidians)
Orochi
Ouphe
Prax

Turtle {80%} (there's an MEM oldwalker who was a "turtlefolk" or something, plus there were kappa on Kamigawa, so I figure why not?)

I would avoid doing Wolfir, Orochi, and Ainok.
Those are plane specific names for creatures.
That would be the equivalent of putting "Nacatl" in despite the term only existing on Naya.

As to the kappa... welll...

Kappa are extinct, but Serra's Plane and Mirrodin and Rath and Keter and Taramir are all in the list of planes.

Wolfir, Orochi, and Ainok have only appeared on one plane each, but same with Myr and Metathran and they're on the lists. Plus there's no reason Ainok, Kappa, or Orochi can't appear on other planes, and while you could call Ainok Hounds, there's no way you can call Orochi Snakes with a straight face, 'cause they just plain aren't.

The difference being that those proper names wouldn't match if they appeared on another plane when the call goes out for them.
On the one hand, yes, it's somewhat silly to have dead planes show up in the generator list, but by the same merit, those aren't likely to cause a cascading dissonance like when you arrive on Innistrad to find an Orochi.

I mean, at the same time it's silly as hell in the first place to have that call list mixing up things like "Skeleton Elephant Rigger" but... I dunno, I just don't think the proper names should go in there.

I would categorize "wolfir" in the same place as "catfolk" potentially actually--sort of generic wolf person. Maybe.

We should remove "orochi" but add Lord Orochimaru.

Oh hey, Kappa. I forgot they even sort of pretended to ever exist. Man, that is an interesting part of the MULTIVERSE that could use some EXPANDING.

If only there was a group of people dedicated to doing that sort of thing... All well.

@Fisco and the Duchess: Ahaha, man, I am basically just - wow. Ok, you know what? I'm keeping my lips shut on the matter. Who knows what the real reasons for all of this is?

I'm totally down with Gruff being the master conspirator, though.

So why not add Salamander, Snake, Bat, Rat, Aven, Selkie, Cat, Fox, Wolf, and Hound?

Is there any fitting generic term for Orochi? "Snake" doesn't fit at all. They're already called Orochi in Gentev.

As co-conspiratorcreator of that continent, I feel I can safely say that Gentev was written by two relatively young and rather new members to the Magic setting, so we defaulted to the name Orochi because

1. That was the only snake people we knew of at the time
2. We were going for an East Indian/Hindu influence, so
   
   • We felt we needed a snake
   • The four-arm thing fit the aesthetic at a glance
   • A Japanese influenced creature didn't seem too far removed from the culture

Looking back on it all, I have to agree with Keeper in how disjointed all of Sertaria feels, and that there are so many things I would change if I had the chance. I would actually kind of spearhead such a project, since one of my first attempted stories for the M:EM was set on Gentev, but that would of course involve me making time to write -_-

Personally, I like the Orochi and Nezumi in Gentev, but think there needs to be some differentiation between the two, culturally. If we were going to do some type of Redo Sertaria project, it would be interesting to see the Orochi and Nezumi as part of an older culture that was conquered by the Vampires (hence their low place in Varna). Samurai, rather than referring to the third Varna as it is now, could be a rank within certain Dissident sects that want to go back to the old ways.

I... don't believe there are Samurai on Gentev. I could be wrong, but it doesn't fit the aesthetic in my head for the continent. But of course, I always thought the most interesting bits were the Priesthood and the Angels.
