Anybody here a fan of minis? If so, you may want to keep an eye on Reaper's latest "Bones II" kickstarter. It's currently set so you get 121 minis for $100. In less than another $5000 of pledging, they'll add 8 more to that pile. There are also some awesome looking add-ons.

They hit their goal in 2 minutes. (Now, granted, given that their last Bones Kickstarter hit the $3 mil mark, a goal of $30K was awfully low).

As they post updates, the groups of minis are color-coded. Anything with a purple background gets added to what you get for the $100 pledge; anything with an orange background is an optional add-on. They also seem to be updating the home page with a big image of everything in both categories.

Frankly, I'm having fun just watching this thing explode as the number of pledgers and money just keeps rolling in.

This'll be my only "bump" of the thread. If nobody's interested, no worries.

The Kickstarter currently has 9 days to go. It's currently at just a hair under $1.9 million raised, and if it's like other popular kickstarters it'll likely go nuts the last three days. When Reaper did the first Bones KS last year, they topped 3 mil, and could get there again this time.

The base $100 pledge, as of now, gets you 150 minis (plus a bag of 50 bases). There are some pretty spiffy add-ons as well - enough that I'm having a hard time keeping my ledge down.

Up to this point, stretch goals have gone in a cycle of base set, optional add-on, expansion set. There's speculation that there won't be any more additions to the base set, but that's not confirmed. Even if that's true, 150 minis for $100 is a great deal.

To see everything available right now, you can go to the home page of the kickstarter, then scroll down. At the bottom of the page they have a series of graphics they keep updating that shows everything that's been unlocked so far and whether it's part of the core set, is an add-on, or is part of an expansion set.

To see upcoming additions, you can go to the updates page and see the most-recent unlocked stretch goal as well as several upcoming goals.

If you're a mini painter and have the cash to spare, this is a damn good deal - again, even if all you buy is the base set.

Watched it, and it looked very cool, but I am not a miniatures person. Hell, I'm not even a big fan of requiring maps for combat.

I missed the first one, which at least so far looks like it would've been a far better deal. I've only just started painting minis; I'm terrible at it, but I find it somewhat relaxing. My wife is a much better painter than me, so anything I need for my game - like the wereshark or the kraken - she's offered to paint.

The fact that there exists a wereshark saddens me.

It thrilled me - I need one (probably more than one) for my current game. Of course, these won't ship until next December so I probably won't have them in time...

Saddly most of my D&D / Pathfinder games have died off due to moving around. And I'm mostly stuck playing via play-by-post.

I dont rely on the grid map system, but I think that maps and minis really help people get into the mood of things sometimes.

I never used minis until we started playing 3e. There were just too many questions about, "If I drop my fireball there, how many of them do I catch? Are any of my friends in that range?" Or even, "Is he close enough for me to charge?" There was just way more precise measurement than we ever needed before, so I bought a mat at GenCon and we used checkers and chess pieces and colored stones and so on. Then my wife decided to pick up some metal minis at GenCon a year or so later and started painting. She went to the "paint and take" at GenCon and asked questions and learned some simple techniques. And I now have about 50 or so minis I can pick from to place on the mat - not counting the plastic minis from WotC and Paizo that I have.

This past summer at PaizoCon I painted my first mini. I'm terrible at it. But I found it oddly relaxing, even sitting in an uncomfortable chair in a conference room with 15 other people around me. So I already went in on Center Stage Miniature's kickstarter for "Tome of Horrors" monsters, and they should be shipping this December. And I'll go in on this one, too, which should end up shipping next December/January 15. Hopefully the spacing gives me time to get better at painting, and hopefully it continues to be something that helps me unwind...
