If the steam chat is any indication then I don't think anything similar would absorb too much of the traffic. Besides, sometimes it's nice to have a chat instead of posting, it lends itself better to some kind of discussions.
I can see the argument with regards to regulation, but it's generally not something I care about. I'd probably nominate a couple people using it that I trust and let them handle it sort of willy-nilly, although I'm sure there's implementations for logging IRC chats if you want to be all srsbsns about it.

Does phpbb have anything similar to the newer Vbulliten thread tag options?

For instance check out THIS page on GitP. In that forum you can click on a tag and filter the forum to only show threads with that tag. There are also several other nifty things you can do with it.

In a word, 'no'. We have topic prefixes, and it'd be possible to set up a "filter by tag" thing, but as far as I'm aware no one has implemented that yet.

Shadow, superscript and subsript should have their buttons on the Post Reply form changed to reflect how they alter the text. It should make the form easier to navigate.
I would like to see the alignment tags, (left, center, right) grouped together on the Post Reply form.
We have enough buttons on their that it might also be worth splitting them into three rows instead of two.

Making buttons look fancier is easy (and done!).
Rearranging them is not much harder, but I haven't yet come up with a way to do it cleanly.
Splitting across three rows rather than two is also not hard but I'm not convinced it's necessary.

Your suggestions tend to be five-minute fix-ups. :)

What was that? I heard, "You offer practical solutions to pressing problems on a regular basis". Sounds about right.

for polls that let you vote for multiple things, it would be nice to have a record of how many people voted. in fact, I'd love to have the option to view the percentages as a percent of people who voted, not a percent of total votes.

Showing the total number of people who have voted is simple enough (and done).

Switching back and forth between how percentages are shown is a bit more work so it'll have to wait.

I have two requests:

1. Bring the back on topic smiley back with the mutual understanding that Jack won't abuse the everliving **** out of it anymore

OR

get rid of this little beauty :bump: the same way because the only reason it's still here is that no-one has developed a penchant for it yet but it's exactly the same otherwise.

I would prefer the second but would take the first if you were willing.

2. I would like a smiley wearing a wizard's hat and smoking a pipe if at all possible.

But the bump smilie is cute and little and not huge and awkward. =(

Find me one and I'll add it!

(I'm not just saying this to be lazy, or a dick. The point is to get you something you want, and you know what you want much better than I can guess.)

Plus Welder doesn't want "Pipe smoking wizard" in his search history.
