I think Reclamation Sage is being left out in a lot of green decks that should have 1 or 2 with all the very powerful enchants around.

I have been playing Hakeem's build all day as well, swapping out the visionaries for 3 omens and an additional Wurm. Great change recommended there earlier in the thread. I have needed an additional creature removal card besides the Demon a few games, so I would lean towards the edict. My question is, what to cut? I am thinking that possibly cutting a selesnya guildgate could be ok. I haven't ran into mana problems with this deck at all with the 4 cultivates. I love the sexy reclamation sage, but I think the addition of having the option of creature removal would be fantastic. I am really torn between the two.

I would not add Reclamation Sage to this deck. Angelic Edict is much better if you can afford it, and this deck can. The option to remove a creature trumps the artifact removal of Sage, and the exile is relevant. I don't know where I'd cut if I were to squeeze it in, maybe go back to three copies of Saruli Gatekeepers?

I'm also considering Kozilek over the Elixir since reaching ten mana is commonplace in this deck. If you do that, then you could probably cut the Genesis Hydra for an Angelic Edict because Kozilek nets you four cards to replace the semi-tutor effect and we want to play Hydra as a 10-drop anyway.

That sounds good, actually. New changes:

-1 Elixir of Immortality
-1 Genesis Hydra

+1 Angelic Edict
+1 Kozilek, Butcher of Truth

Yeah, ever since I have had so much success with Edict in my Esper build I am completely sold on that card in any build that can handle a couple 5 cmc removals.

I understand totally on that.

If your abzan is for 4ffa, then you need Elixir. Planar Cleansing abounds there.

If I use a lot of draw advantage, I can go through a lot of spells and reshuffling them back can become necessary often.

I love how it triggers Angelic Accord on their turn.

I liked reclamation sage until I noticed how others were using Beastmaster Ascension on the very turn they're about to trigger it all the way with 7 tokens attacking. I replaced with 2 naturalize, only instant enchant destroy we have(for now)

Edicts are great due to versatility. That's why they win out easily vs Solemn Offering.

Drat it...there was a 3 mana "destroy all enchants" we had in Tactics..and now my mind is blank on what it's name was...I'm getting old.

Remembered it started with Tempest..Just did a search on that word...Tempest of Light. being as how I rarely use enchants and wouldn't when I can help it, I try to remember all disenchants I encounter.

There are not enough artifacts and enchantments being played regularly to justify naturalize in my opinion. It will be dead too often, at least sage comes with a body.

If you are referring to 4 player, which is not relevant to Hakeem's list, then fair enough I could see it being ok there.

Yeah, I meant 4ffa. Sorry for not clarifying.

There's a lot more enchant in 4ffa.

So I've been testing with the new changes and already both cards have made an impact. Kozilek is a ridiculous bomb here, I can't believe I chose Elixir over him initially. He's the same "don't deck yourself" insurance, but getting to 10+ mana is no sweat with this deck so he doubles as a wincon and solves the problem this deck has with running out of cards in those grindy games. Hydra was great, but four guaranteed cards is better. Choosing Elixir because of the synergy with Accord was cute, but suboptimal.

As far as Edict goes, I just had a game against a mono-white weenie deck where I was getting bashed to smithereens but was holding due to multiple Saruli Gatekeepers and a Lone Missionary buying me additional draw steps. I eventually draw into my Planar Cleansing and clear the board while my opponent has only one card in hand. I'm at 7 life, he untaps, draws, and plays a Creepy Doll so I cast Rune-Scarred Demon fetching Seance because my graveyard is full of the creatures I just Cleansed. Then he untaps and enchants it with Armored Ascension to make it a 6/6 indestructible flier and swings right into my Demon. ****, I can't win this game because I have no outs! That's when I have an "aha" moment and realize that I just added Angelic Edict to my deck! So I chump block with the Demon, exile it to Seance on his turn fetching the Edict, and rid myself of that nuisance when I untap and proceed to coast to victory from there.

I should have fetched the Edict when I initially cast my Demon, but it was only my third or fourth game since including it and I hadn't yet drawn it so it was off my radar. I like the card here, and am considering dropping Shadowborn for a second copy.

Results-oriented thinking? Absolutely!

Thanks for the input, everyone.

in my B/W/G I run 4 copies with 3 Treasured find. Edict is amazing really. I like the feeling even in early draw of having one. Simply to know I can stop whatever nonsense my opponent thinks he's gonna do. lol

I would take the original list -4 Elvish Visionary and go +2 Reclamation Sage +2 Angelic Edict. More often than not you are using the edict to drop a creature. Once in a while it will hit an enchantment. But sage is early defense and possibly hits an enchantment. But also comes back as enchantment removal / chump block off of seance ( This is the majority of how I see it in action. ).

Also I have tried The Butcher in replacement of The Elixir through many games. I find the control of when I play it and when I pop it is far superior. Too many times I have seance on the board and pull The Butcher in the mix off of Satyr and lose all my graveyard targets. The same is to be said about having a valid target for a Treasured Find in hand and instantly losing access.

Im also thinking of dropping a Saruli for either another Edict or possibly Darksteel Ingot. The idea is to have 5 mana progression options raising the chance of seeing one opening hand or by turn 3. To many times Im not getting the ramp the deck needs. I mulligan aggressively for the right hands and just dont see what I want. I want to fix this.

I think the "I win" clause of the Butcher outweighs the "I don't lose quite yet" clause of the Elixir, I'm happy with that swap.

As far as Ingot goes, a singleton is a reasonable suggestion but I don't have anything I'm really willing to cut.

Reclamation Sage just feels bad here, but Angelic Edict is quite good; as I stated, I'm thinking of dropping the Shadowborn for another Edict because Shadowborn is mainly there as a removal spell and Edict does it better. It's rare that I get to attack with the Demon, and the inability to hit Baneslayers and Grislebrands means that he is sometimes a liability.

I've been using Kozilek from day 1 in my Selesnya Seance build, and Edicts for over a month, Both are all-stars.

I thought you said Seance was terrible anyway? What changed your mind from that into inclusion in "potentially a tier-one deck"? Quite the volte-face.

61 cards. You know you want to.

Thats a good call ( Edict for Shadow ). Its often I face the same problems.

Its not win vs lose, Butcher is nonbo with the graveyard theme of the deck. There is no control of its purpose. Lose your graveyard to it enough times in the midgame and see how the "win" clause turns to "that may cost me the game." Depends on the scenario but it is very real and does happen.

Glad others spoke up on the value of edict...

Seance is a value singleton that has a lot of synergy with what I'm already doing; it requires a bit of setup, but the potential payoff is worth a single slot. With that said, it's my 62nd card right now because I'm really wanting the third Pelakka Wurm and the three cuts I'm considering are the fourth copy of Saruli Gatekeepers (61st card), the Seance (62nd card), and the third copy of Angelic Accord (63rd card). The second copy of Treasured Find is a close 64th card, but I like to be able to Rune-Scarred into Treasured Find to scoop key cards out of the yard.

61 cards. You know you want to.

I actually laughed out loud; I didn't know you had it in you. Well-played. :)

I understand the risk of the Butcher with respect to shuffling away the graveyard, but after playing with him I think the payoff of the 10-mana game-winning bomb that draws me four cards is worth that risk.

There's often times you want a reshuffle, and would prefer to redraw your bombs rather than burn them, especially once most of the land has been stripped and you can access them faster.

Sure the process can be a little random, but you just learn to be judicious with your Wayfinders and burn what you need before casting/recurring another. Often the reshuffle is a lifeline.

Those darn Satyrs are a gift and a curse. If they dont drum up a land they also dump key cards in the graveyard.

Seance is a card I've sadly neglected. I'll remedy that today.

Most Seance decks have a Selesnya core, and either keep that or add another colour and go Azban or Naya.

There's a few Orzhov builds about, which are ok, but generally more lifegain based than Seance based. Nobody really runs mono, for good reason too considering the shallow nature of the pools. You'd get a deck that built itself and was pretty dull.

Barely anyone runs Azorius or Boros, despite there being great applications in both, especially with Archaeomancers, Jalira and Quicklings in Blue and Warstorm and haste-givers in Red, so those colours are where I'd say the most interesting design space is.

Nobody runs Bant, Esper, Mardu or Jeskai Seance. If you're feeling adventurous, add another colour after you build one of the above decks! I'd personally try Mardu - remove the Green from the Abzan and Naya builds and combine the Warstorm and Reanimation elements for fun and profit!

I'd experiment more with the card, but I'm really happy with my Selesnya build, and I don't like having decks that repeat themes or even colour pairs, which admittedly self-limits a lot of building avenues (I even took it from my Azorius build as a result...) I feel there's still a lot more potential for this card, but as I'm happy with my current use, I'm not going to expore it as I'd rather be testing cards I haven't previously.

Tested Hakeem's build all weekend (( with the walls and the butcher). So far I'm 16 and 3 (and 2 of those 3 felt like they were less the decks fault and more bad land draw followed by bad mulligans. ) Love the deck...Well done
