Hakeem, have you considered running the Maalfeld Twins in your Grixis Control deck instead of maybe Ogre Jailbreaker? I know you're really in love with the Jailbreaker, but the Maalfeld has all that and more. He's immune to Anger of the Gods, he's immediately walls a lot of threats, and he's hard for a lot of decks to play around. As you put it however, our low amount of creatures is meant to make removal a dead card. The Ore Jailbreaker is a lightning rod to getting burned off the field, but the Maalfeld discourages that. He can even still trade against larger threats we have difficult removing, and still leave chump blockers.

The extra 2 cost on him isn't really that disadvantageous to a control deck, is it? And he doesn't clog the 7 curve with Rune-Scarred or Bone Wand either.

Edit:
Here's a brew a friend and I came up with tonight. 5-0'd some randoms so I thought I'd give it a post. It borrows heavily from Hakeem's Grixis list, but uses different win conditions.

Grixfinity

1 x Island
5 x Swamp
7 x Mountain
4 x Izzet GUildgate
3 x Rakdos Guildgate
4 x Dimir Guildgate

4 x Auger Spree

4 x Think Twice
2 x Inspiration
1 x Time Warp

3 x Tribute to Hunger
2 x Flesh to Dust
4 x Ogre Jailbreaker
2 x Rune-Scarred Demon

4 x Shock
2 x Anger of the Gods
3 x Bolt of Keranos
1 x Inferno Titan
2 x Charmbreaker Devils

2 x Elixir of Immortality

Instead of Kozilek and a Sphinx Bone Wand as the primary win conditions, the deck can go infinite turns. With a Charmbreaker Devils and Elixir out, all you need is a Time Warp in hand. At the opponent's end step, activate the Elixir to put your graveyard into your library, then play the Time Warp. As it'll be the only thing in your graveyard, it will be returned every turn allowing you infinite turns. From there it doesn't matter how you win.

It seems a bit gimmicky, but the shell itself is strong enough to work around just about anything (Thanks, Hakeem!). The infinite combo is just gravy. In two of the games I played, I went infinite, and in the other three the removal package was too much for the opponent and the Ogres and Inferno Titan, and Charmbreaker just ran rampant.

I truly think that this deck can be a very good deck. Let's open this thing up to some discussion. Thoughts? Changes? Feel free to tell me I'm stupid and this won't work, as long as you tell me WHY you don't feel it can be good.

Got bored and started playing around with this list. Once you go infinite, aren't there just, tons of ways to get blown out? If Charmbreaker can't safely attack and you have no other creatures, you can't deal damage. If you draw too many spells (After many infinite turns) you'll have to discard one. Then there is only a 50/50 chance you will get another infinite turn instead of your discarded spell. Lots of problems for an "infinite", I feel.

I think six mana is way too expensive. Jailbreaker is primarily a defensive creature that I'm using to stabilize the board, so the fact that I can drop it on T4 is way too important.

This is my experience as well. Having this guy T4 is a pretty crucial part of the overall plan along with the early destroys. If one or the other doesn't pan out then the other makes up for it.

Grixis deck I used in the last round of the tourney. It's actually been running pretty well! Also to my amazement no premiums - who'd have figured? Mostly just revolves around killing things as the opponent plays them and slowly whittling them down with indirect damage via Guttersnipe or dealing massive damage with Explosive Impact and Volcanic Geyser once you have enough mana built up.

Information
I've decided the stats in the deck builder are bogus if you don't conform to one of their predefined build ideas; this deck apparently has no synergy, hehe. Anyways, I'd first like to say that I didn't come up with the Galvanic Juggernaut + Burning Anger combo (and including stuff like Niblis of the Breath etc.), but if whoever did come up with it on these forums (because this is where I read about it) says so I'll give you credit here: (Insert credit here). However, this is my own spin on that combo. Anyways, this deck is all about killing stuff... over and over and over. It is a deck where Cruel Sadist can shine, especially when you get an Illusionist's Bracers on it. Niblis of the Breath allows you to untap your guys to reuse them, untap Galvanic Juggernaut so it can attack again, and tapping your opponent's creatures so you can Assassinate them. Burning Anger has plenty of good targets, including Soul of Ravnica, Griselbrand, Inferno Titan, Gravelord tokens, a pumped up Sadist and Galvanic Juggernaut... especially Galvanic Juggernaut. All of those previously mentioned creatures are also able to be pumped with Auger Spree, which is otherwise great instant speed removal. As this deck is combo based, you have Elixir of Immortality for recursion, and Think Twice for variable cost, instant speed draw.

@Hakeem:

I'm playing your build right now. I have some things I like, some things I don't like, but I want to ask you about 2 cards in particular:
1. Dead Weight
2. Stormbreath Dragon

Any tests with those guys?

Stormbreath Dragon isn't a control deck finisher because you just lose five mana if your opponent has the answer. The card is designed to beat control decks as I read it.

As for Dead Weight, it didn't cross my radar. I think its inclusion could be possible because it increases the range of my existing removal spells without requiring them on the same turn.

Any other thoughts?

It's been a while since I have played Hakeem's build, but I dunno where Dead Weight could even be fit in, or basically what you would actually take out. I played about 25 games with it about a month ago, what is it you don't like about the build fel?

The more I play this game, the more I'm convinced Stormbreath Dragon should be in every Red deck with at least 23 lands. Card is insane. Evasion, Haste and Protection from White (the most played color in the game) are just too good to pass.

As for Dead Weight, I was probably thinking about removing some Tribute to Hungers for it. DW is like extra Shocks, and we know how good Shock is in our format.

Honestly, I don't remember lol. It's been a while since last I played it.

Ok, Grixis was always a favorite, don't know why I never made a Grixis deck until now. Been tweaking it, Center's around Gravedigger and Archaeomancer to always get everything you want back. A lot of fun. But, it's a thinking man's deck. Have too many options as each turn progresses.

Graveomancer

18 Creatures:
4 Necromancer's Assistant
2 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Archaeomancer
4 Gravedigger
1 Stormbreath Dragon
1 Inferno Titan
1 Soul Of Ravnica
1 Rune-Scarred Demon

18 Spells:
2 Krenko's Command
3 Shock
4 Voyage's end
4 Dead Reckoning
2 Anger of the Gods
3 Switcheroo

24 Lands:
4 Izzet Guildgate
4 Rakdos Guildgate
4 Dimir Guildgate
4 Swamp
4 Island
4 Mountain

Ok, Krenko's Command, Goblin Rabble make tokens, helps for Switcheroo, but so does trading a Gravedigger or Archaeomancer. so plenty of targets for Switcheroo. Since so many people drop Baneslayer angel, pellaka and Runescarred. Why remove it when you can make it yours? lol
Necromancer gets the ball rolling, had Auger in the deck but Shock is so much better for the early turns. Once you hit 3 mana you want to start dropping Necros, Rabble etc. Not wasting the turn with an auger. And every creature is Suicidal. Since Gravedigger and Deadreckoning can get them back.
Anger of the gods is a safety net, nothing more. And a bit of a nonbo, IF you don't play your creatures suicidal.
I've even attacked with something I didn't want to anger of the gods, only to pause, unpause, pause. making opponent think I screwed up. so he kills it then Anger. Gravedig him back.

Kept putting things like Phyrika's Chosen and stuff in and out to help those first few turns. But, Deck so far runs better without after putting Shock in place of them. That and added Voyage's end. So enough to remove first few threats. Voyage's end because Scrying is HUGE. And I'd rather make them waste mana recasting it so I can maybe take it later in the case of Bombs with Switcheroo.

Stormbreath dragon is a all star. So many white decks out there. I wish I could have more then one.
But, feels like it with Gravedigger around.

8 creature resurrecting cards, 4 Spell resurrecting, 3 steals. a lot of fun. lol

Anyway's, Any input welcome.

I've been trying to build a deck around these two cards:
Military Intelligence
and
Beastmaster Ascension

Now I know it's probably never going to be 'top tier' or anything, but I'd still like to make one as good as possible.
Here's what I've got right now:

Lands 22:
Island x6
Mountain x6
Forest x10

Monsters 24:
Triton Shorestalker x4
Spire Tracer x4

Quickling x2
Bloodcrazed Neonate x4
Elvish Visionary x4

Genesis Hydra x2
Reclamation Sage x2
Marauding Maulhorn x2

Spells 14:
Voyage's End x2
Shock x2

Military Intelligence x2

Beastmaster Ascension x2
Cultivate x4
Anger of the Gods x2

The weaknesses I've been coming up against is having to many weenies without any direct ways to power them up and having a limited removal pool.
I'm considering adding a Chaos Skulker or 2, but not sure yet which cards to take out for it/them.
Also poindering if I should have more removal.

Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should repost this in the Temur thread and get the mods to delete this one. I'll have a look later tonight when I get a moment.

Ah, my mistake, didn't realise I'd switched tabs.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Maybe I'll post it in the Simic thread as well, since I'm not sure the :r: is adding enough to justify splashing it.

Please don't. We like to be strict when it comes to using colors and putting them in their respective threads. If it has anything other than :u::g: it is not Simic.

Will you ever forgive me for the not-quite-mono-red deck, Neb?
