I'll go with the majority and say Frost Lynx. I haven't really pinned down blue's space in M15 yet though.

Blue it tempo + evasion, but has beaters like Welkin Tern and Illusory Angel that can just take over games. It's great in UW flyers, though probably the most powerful in UR artifacts in M15.

You can go on and on about the list of cards that are better than other cards, or cards that beat other cards, but it's missing the point entirely: white is not open (not to mention it was, by far, not the "best card" in the pack as you claim) and black and now, obviously, blue is. This is much more worthy of discussion than listing a bunch of arbitrary cards that beat other cards.

Griffin isn't a card that you measure based on what can "beat" it. It's a slow clock and thus a mediocre pick in a color that's not even open.

I don't know that I was willing to concede that white was being cut off last pack. Obviously, with the new information we have from the next pack, white is being cut off. IDK that we could make that 100% assumption last pack, so I still would have taken the Griffin.

This early, it's really a matter of counting. The only pack suggesting no one had picked white from it was pack 2. The other packs it's the lowest represented color (pretty much) with cards that you'd normally pick after pick 5.

Meanwhile, we were passing pick 1s and 2s (tern/frog) and pick 3s and 4s (lynx, spirit, etc.)

But now you're misdirecting. You said pick the Accursed Spirit over the Welkin Tern or the Turn to Frog.

In retrospect, you're right, we should have went blue from Pack 2. Tern, Turn to Frog, then Lynx. Unfortunately hindsight's 20/20.

I didn't vote on pack 2. Pack 3 I voted for spirit because I didn't look at the contents of pack 2 not having voted on it. I assumed that since we picked a terrible card like grindclock it was a terrible pack, it was only after I cast my vote on pack 3 I saw we passed a friggin' welkin tern.

And no, hindsight is not 20/20 in this regard. We passed good cards and picked bad ones. The only way to learn from drafts is to recognize your mistakes.

I'm not talking about pack 2, I'm talking about pack 3 where people voted we take Grindclock over the cards you and I were discussing, Griffin and Spirit.

Which is a good place to bring up my next question.

At which point, once you realize you've made mistakes, do you reverse your direction? We just signaled to the guy to our left that Blue and Black are open. Do we now jump into Blue knowing that one of the two to our left is now probably in blue and we won't see the best blue available next pack? Do we go Black? Are we going to completely abandon White (probably going to abandon green) or are we hoping to get enough good white in pack 2 when the packs are going the opposite way that we can, at the very least, splash white so we can still use Triplicate Spirits? I mean, we don't realistically expect the Turn to Frog or the Welkin Tern to wheel, do we?

I think the questions above directly relate to questions I've had the last couple of drafts, so while I'm not happy with how this mock draft is going, it is good for my growth that we're here so that I have the opportunity to ask these questions at a point where they actually matter.

I was responding to this, which I never said.

Pack 3 is weird bc it was a three-way split between spirit, clock, and griffin. I obviously would've preferred either creature over the artifact :P

I wouldn't make a decision based on the picks I passed/signals I sent but the packs I see at the moment. Sending signals is hardly ever important, and you should generally ignore the advice of people who want to discuss sending signals, especially this early.

For now we put ourselves in a position where we either have to keep on trucking and hope we get a decent pack 2, or we dive into at least one of these colors and bank on having a decent pack 3.

You're right, I was wrong about Welkin Tern. It was Turn to Frog and Void Snare which were in that pack.

That's what I'm asking. Do we continue to try and force White and Green, or do we jump into Blue and/or Black at this point?

One of us made the correct choice and voted for Turn to Frog. :D

Seriously though, at this point I think we have two choices. Probably have a mediocre deck with very little shot at winning, or go all in on the mill strategy.

Since drafts are won by taking a deck that no one else is fighting for cards, I vote for the mill strategy, so I'll go with the frost lynx like everyone else.

Plus, I'd be more excited to try a mill strategy this time over taking a deck full of mediocre cards.

Funny that the bulk of the discussion today is about past picks instead of today's. But yeah, Lynx.

I think the discussion is good.

My opinion is that accursed sprit is the better card, but with taking triplicate spirits pick 1 I would have preferred the bird.

But that's if turn to frog wasn't in the pack. Being white green with first two picks wouldn't stop me from taking the best card pick 3.

Yeah, I was pretty mixed about the grindclock > turn to frog. I tend to over pick blue so maybe I over corrected.
On the plus side - we can take frost lynx here and try to go UB control (since we can expect see more of both). Pack 2 might be a **** but frankly we didn't pass anything AWSOME in black.

Don't worry. Worst case, people will just skip it and cast their votes. I like it, though. I was just amused by the fact that it happened in more than one draft.

Frost Lynx

**** happens. We speculated on white, and once again, it's not open. Same for green. We need to really listen to signals right now, and blue seems to be there for the picking.

And the Griff is bad. It's the white card you pick when you run out of the good commons. Netcaster Spiders are being taken to our right. Inferno Fists also. White is not the control deck that wins with a slow finisher, that is black. That's why Spirit is better; it's a faster clock, and it can count on having the way open when you decide it's time to kill the opponent. You want a good flyer, take the Gargoyle.
