Yeah but that doesn't work with the evidence of evolution.

If Earth was the original human homeworld, humans could have been transplanted to those other worlds.

This wouldn't explain why the creatures of other planes are in myths of their respective culture, though. For example, the similarities between the Greek gods and those of Theros. If humans were taken from Greece to Theros, then the humans of Earth shouldn't have beliefs in gods that are similar to those of Theros. The same goes with the myths of Kami.

The Theros gods *are* formed by mortal belief...

Anyway, I think it would be a cataclysmicly bad idea to include earth in our multiverse.

Full Disclosure:I agree.
But the implications are fun to think about.

Is it possible to zoom in on part of the timeline in that software? The whole Cabal war area is too squeezed to see or click on most things.

I seriously don't understand your problems with the timeline. You know there are arrows you can click on either side to go to the next and previous entry, right? Hell, you can even use your arrow keys.

I don't know what it looks like on other browsers, but on my Firefox the text is tiny, the "flags" near each other are squished together so tightly that most are covered up, and every time I move my mouse to try to click on anything, the timeline spins in one direction or the other, yanking what I want to click on out of reach. Yes, I can see that there is a thing that tells me what the immediate previous and next events are, but that doesn't let me see the big picture because at any one time, the vast majority of entries are covered up by other entries or just off the screen entirely. I can't see actual dates at all without managing to click on a flag, which only tells me that date and no other, and due to the timeline constantly moving with a will of its own it's hard to click on anything. Most of the time, when I do manage to click on something, my cursor turns into a four-way arrow and clicking does nothing. And unless the thing stops moving and stays still, I can barely read the text anyway, aside from how small it is.

Yeah, that... that sounds like a problem on your end, Arcades. It's always worked just fine for me :/

What browser do you use and what does the timeline look like to you?

The more layers of flash and javascript a website uses, the more likely it is to malfunction on one or more browser setups, or just use up ungodly amounts of processing power. This is why I prefer text and hate the new mothership.

At the very least, it would be helpful to have a text version of the timeline in existence for anyone whose computer cannot use that website. And for people who can't read text that is moving constantly. What if a M:EMber had dyslexia? I don't, but moving text and tiny text are always very difficult for me to read no matter where they are.

Maybe it doesn't matter for now. I'll be taking another long sabbattical from the M:EM soon. By the time I return Firefox will have gone through umpteen software changes and that website will either have ceased to exist, or have changed all the javascript into something else.

I can see the timeline alright. I use firefox (most recent version) with the following addons that might effect my appearance...

Firefox 2, the theme, reloaded
Adblock Plus 2.6.4
Classic Theme Restorer 1.2.3
Classic Toolbar Buttons 1.4.2
Downloads Window 0.5.0
Flashblock 1.5.17
Hide Tab Bar with One Tab 1.4
Tabs on Bottom (Australis) 0.7

The timeline looks like this for me
Spoiler

I can't scroll or zoom, but I can navigate forward or backward by clicking or using the arrow keys. The text doesn't move unless I tell it to. Also, it's not flash (at least, not the same way videos and webgames are) -- flashblock does NOT trigger. I don't think it's java either, since I don't get the java icon in my system tray.

EDIT: You'll probably have to view image for the full effect: that's my whole screen, not just a small part of it (minus my taskbar, which I clipped from the image, so you just see the maximized firefox window.)

I'm looking at it in Firefox right now and it looks just fine to me. Zooming, scrolling, and clicking all work fine.

I don't know, if someone wants to try setting things up in a different format, feel free. Personally, I wouldn't want to use anything that's not dynamically generated because things are still very much in flux as we nail dates down definitively. If you or anyone else feels inclined to rewrite things every time we have to shuffle things around, you are welcome to what sounds like a massive headache to me.

That's similar to my browser, though I have fewer addons, and that's similar to how it looks like to me. How do you navigate that? See how the vertical lines are mooshed together between "Valeris something" and "Elspeth and Xenagos battle," and just before "Raleris fights"? I can't click on them. I can't even see the individual lines, it just looks like a solid rectangle. And I'm not somebody who's ever needed reading glasses.

How do you zoom?
Edit: I found a plus button, but it will only zoom a little bit. Even with my browser also zoomed in as far as I can and still fit it on one screen, a lot of the lines in the present period are crammed together.

I get that you find this easier to edit than text. If everyone else prefers it this way....

Again, if you feel like you can do this more easily in text, go for it! Feel free to prove me wrong!

Honestly? I just click the left and right edges of the screen (or press left or right arrow keys) to go to the previous/next event. Longer range moves *are* kinda dicey, especially in the recent era.

Also when I said "I can't zoom". I meant "Using the "Mouse wheel" feature on my touchpad doesn't zoom it, and I was too oblivious to find the + and - magnifying glass buttons."

...

I go from one event to the next chronologically. I don't know why you would want to click on individual events unless you're only looking for the date associated with a single event, and in that case you're probably better sifting through them anyway if you don't know the date to begin with.

Hey so do we have a solid intro? I feel like the one from earlier in the thread should maybe be expanded to include some of the other questions Arcades asked about.
