ajunior, I think you have 1 to many FtDs. That's just the definition of bad removal.
So anything that isn't
Lightning Strike or
Cone of Flame is bad removal?
Are you saying that a 5 mana targeted removal isn't bad? Actually we have Stab Wound, Stoke the Flames, and slightly worse but not as bad as FtD, Ulcerate. White has a couple exile spells that are also better than FtD.
FtD and Hunt the Weak are about on par with each other imo. Why are we paying 2 extra mana for a Murder with a regeneration clause that only affects 2 cards in M15 limited? It's a bad card that people are forced to use because it's the only option for common black removal outside of Covenant of Blood.
Oh yeah, Heat Ray is good too.
This is a format assessment and not a card assessment. I think this type of nuance is important to "next level" drafting, as all too often people get stuck in the idea that 16 well-curved creatures and 7 removal spells is the "perfect" draft deck, and not the base on which we draft our decks.
For example, I 3-0'd last night with something like 5 1-drops, 4 2-drops, 5 3-drops, 4 4-drops, 1 5-drop, 2 hammerhands, 1 obelisk, and 1 feral incantation. That is literally a 20 creature deck (Feral included) with 3 pump spells and no removal, and the deck handily beat someone playing triple
heliod's pilgrim and double
spectral ward, as well as the UG convoke deck and a deck that could easily ramp into Garruk.
The point is, FtD, while solid for an unconditional removal spell, isn't as good in this format because there are two or three very aggressive archetypes that don't even play great targets for FtD. It's not tier 1 removal like
lightning strike and
heat ray and
cone of flame, more like tier 1.5-2.
