Truth Seekers

A one vs. one deck for Magic 2015.

60 Cards (29 :creature: , 7 :instant: , 24 :land:)

Cost 7 cards
■■■■
Satyr Wayfinder1/1
■■■
Wall of Omens0/4
Cost 7 cards
■■■
Banisher Priest2/2
■■
Mentor of the Meek2/2
■■■■
Cultivate
Cost 5 cards
■■■
Kor Cartographer2/2
■■
Séance
Cost 6 cards
■■
Arbor Colossus6/6
Baneslayer Angel5/5
■■■
Angelic Edict
Cost 5 cards
■■
Aegis Angel5/5
■■
Palisade Giant2/7
Soul of Zendikar6/6
Cost 3 cards
■■■
Pelakka Wurm7/7
Cost 1 card
Kozilek, Butcher of Truth12/12
Cost 2 cards
■■
Genesis Hydra0/0
Land24 cards
■■■■
Selesnya Guildgate
10
Forest
10
Plains

A stall/ramp deck, that takes full advantage of ETBs and Seance to recur them. Every creature bar Kozilek has a benefit with Seance, and once that hits, especially with the self-mill of the Wayfinders, It's practically game over. Even Kozilek provides a service if he ends up in the graveyard as he reshuffles those creatures I may want to redraw rather than burn in a longer game such as the wurms.

Genesis Hydra is there to mainly help fetch Seance, as the deck goes into turbo mode with it on the field, and with only 5 non-permanent spells, he can always get something useful - often even Kozilek!

Lots of mini-combos and interactions here, such as the Aegis-Palisade making you and your creatures unkillable, Seance obviously has a benefit with everything (even the Colossi, who can kill fliers by going monstrous, and the Hydra who can trigger a Mentor before dying) and Wayfinders not only ensure you stay on curve, but power Seance, forming an excellent feedback loop when they put more Wayfinders in the graveyard.

Kozilek is there not just as an amazing finisher, but also for the occasional shuffle effect. I can often almost completely strip my mana out of the deck and gain large amounts of life, so shuffling the yard is often not a bad tactic rather than exiling my creatures for the one-time ETB.

currently *20-2
the competition is lax tonight. Hypothetically speaking, now might be a good time for racking up wins with any deck of my choosing. :smirk:

edit: *22-2

edit: *23-3
Lost with 2 Reprisal dead in my hand. Not even the first time I lost holding a reprisal. I think I am taking them out of the deck and replacing them with the great Triplicate Spirits.

opponent was running Palisade Giant, which reprisal can't even kill. Hmm, maybe I should run Palisade Giant?

edit: no, scratch that. I'm adding Planar Cleansing. Its the ONLY card that would have gotten me out of that jam.

File comment: Reprisal - the new worst card ever? What's insulting come to think of it is that the opponent was running Reprisal and used it to take out my Scion of the Wild. WHAT THE HELL

I've updated all my decks since I last posted them, so thought I'd update them here too.

:w::g: - Truth Seekers

I've been using a deck based off of yours for some time now (previous version). Also put in mentors of the meek :)

I was wondering why you don't run doubling season? Its a G/W deck based on seance, and it's interaction with seance is ridiculous (get two copies of the creature, only one is exiled at end step).

It's apparently a glitch, so I don't really want to use it (and It's been confirmed it'll be patched anyway) Also it only works with Seance and Genesis Hydra. Otherwise it's a dead draw, so I don't include it for that reason too.

I've been playing Selesnya online again because of the Xbox tournament and here's where my list is currently sitting:

EDIT - I've decided to cut the removal and just go all-in on the aggro plan

15 x Plains
8 x Forest

3 x Elite Vanguard
4 x Loyal Pegasus

4 x Selesnya Evangel
4 x Squadron Hawk
4 x Raise the Alarm

4 x Attended Knight
2 x Mentor of the Meek
1 x Brimaz, King of Oreskos
2 x Beastmaster Ascension
1 x Hall of Triumph

3 x Paragon of New Dawns

1 x Baneslayer Angel

4 x Triplicate Spirits

I just had a game that went like this:

T2 Selesnya Evangel
T3 cast Raise the Alarm at my opponent's EoT then create a token through Evangel.
T4 Triplicate Spirits
T5 Beastmaster Ascension, swing for 1,000,000

This deck is overpowered.

Because of my distaste for Tokens, and the strength of them in 2015 I've ignored this thread but made my own Non-Token Selesnya so I'm posting it after a lot of testing. Any and all thoughts on changes welcome.

Aegis Pack

20 Creatures:
3 Wall Of Omens
4 Elvish Visionary
2 Genesis Hydra
1 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
1 Baneslayer Angel
3 Garruk's Packleader
2 Arbor Colossus
2 Aegis Angel
1 Soul Of Zendikar
1 Terra Stomper

16 Spells:
4 Gods Willing
3 Reprisal
3 Cultivate
4 Angelic Edict
2 Planar Cleansing

24 Lands:

4 Selesnya Guildgate
10 Plains
10 Forest

Pretty simple to pilot. Plenty of draw. easy to keep things alive with Gods Willing. Which is amazing. Survive the early game, Planar Cleansing if you have to. Then drop the fatties. Hydra into Packleader is a plus. Hydra into Aegis, etc. Or Aegis the Terra Stomper(Trample+Indestructible), etc. hard to stop if you have a fatty down and get to drop aegis.

To many games are won by simply having a card like Garruk down then Maxing a Hydra, which is usually 2 Fatties and 2 cards drawn.
If you Hydra into Aegis its pretty much over. Always save a gods willing. Easily the Star in the deck. Can't believe I don't use it more in other decks.

This started from a mono green, which after losing enough because of lack of removal, so I added white. Wanting to go Selesnya without the tokens.
Then once I put aegis in it sorta made the deck. Had 2 Pellaka,2 Giants(Forget name 2/7, All damage goes to him) but wanted to lower mana curve a little.
Still thinking of dropping Terra and Soul of Zendikar. (Both were pellaka's, But felt like win more)
Also had Squadron hawks in it for a time, But Seem to always have more cards in hand, so couldn't use the ability. Which makes them kinda pointless.

Thoughts welcome.

Ok, This deck hardly ever loses.
Casting aegis to make something indestructible, And if the opponent gets outta hand being able to planar cleansing all but one of your creatures is an amazing board wipe.

Gods willing seems too good for 1 mana. The whole reason I keep Elvish and Wall of omens in their is to try to make sure you get a gods willing in hand. Nothing better then casting, then being able to protect it next turn from removal, and the +Scry is huge.
Or making a creature Unblockable with it, etc.

Feels Top Tier to me. Just always seem to have the answer when I run it. I do wish I could fit in Cloudshift, but taking out something makes it perform differently. Just feel's about perfect.

I can't believe there hasn't been a single post in this thread in over two months. The deck that I am finally getting around to updating is in the post right above this one!

Here is Selesnya Aggro:

[manapie 90 w -u -b -r g][/manapie]

Selesnya Aggro

A one vs. one deck for Magic 2015.

60 Cards (25 :creature: , 12 :instant: , 23 :land:)

Cost 4 cards
■■■■
Akrasan Squire1/1
Cost 17 cards
■■■■
Selesnya Evangel1/2
■■■
Sigiled Paladin2/2
■■■■
Squadron Hawk1/1

■■■■
Sigil Blessing
Cost 9 cards
■■■■
Attended Knight2/2
Brimaz, King of Oreskos3/4
■■
Mentor of the Meek2/2
■■
Beastmaster Ascension
Cost 3 cards
Baneslayer Angel5/5
■■
Mycoloth4/4
Cost 4 cards
■■■■
Triplicate Spirits
Land23 cards
■■■■
Selesnya Guildgate
7
Forest
12
Plains

The one-drop slot was completely vacated by the incumbents and replaced with the Akrasan Squires. The Vanguard couldn't attack on a lot of boards because it died to a 1/1, so the switch to Squire feels good because he comes down and attacks as a 2/2. The Loyal Pegasi were fine but not exciting and were mostly there to better enable the T3 Triplicate Spirits start which isn't quite as necessary anymore. I added three Gods Willing to the deck because it's great protection for Mycoloth (who is really the architect of all these changes) but it also protects Mentor and Baneslayer just fine as well. (EDIT - Gods Willing was removed)

In the two-drop slot, the only change is the addition of two Sigil Blessing. This card is a bit of a risk to cast because it has a single target and can be disrupted with single-target removal, but I think two copies should be fine in a deck with Gods Willing. It will either be safe to go off with it or it won't matter because we have protection. The big draw of this card over something like Inspired Charge is the price tag, but the +3/+3 buff can also be used defensively as a sort-of fourth Gods Willing. I thought about adding Sigiled Paladin to replace Attended Knight and better allow me to activate Evangel on T3, but the mana cost and the Knight's token won out in the end for me. (EDIT - Sigiled Paladin was added after all)

In the three-drop slot I just cut the Hall of Triumph because Mycoloth tokens are green. In my old build, the only green creatures were Evangel tokens so it was still a good cast on white, but now it's just not worth a slot.

The four-drop slot has been completely vacated because the Paragon is no longer necessary. It was always fragile and I'm happy to be clear of it.

The impetus for all the changes to the deck has been Mycoloth. This deck produces a lot of bodies and he only needs to eat a few of them to just take over the game.

Thoughts and opinions? Or is this archetype just so uninteresting that people don't talk about it for two months? :)

Selesnya ramp into bombs is cool though :)

After testing out this new list, Gods Willing just isn't necessary. You can tax your opponent's removal just by swarming so when Mycoloth lands you don't need the protection and it's not that great for forcing through damage. I cut them all for three copies of Sigiled Paladin.

I have updated my table, above.

Yeah it's really good, but even "bad" variants of GW Aggro are good. Cutting back on one-drops lets me play the gates and loading up on two-drops lets me start with an Evangel and then another two-drop on T3 plus make a token into Triplicate Spirits or three-drop and another token on T4. The deck curves out really well.

Sigil Blessing replaces the fragile Paragons and doesn't care about color but I think two is enough because it can be disrupted and there are two Beastmasters here as well.

Mycoloth is just nuts and is at his strongest in this deck, I feel.

I feel two is enough as well. That was ultimately my realization if you recall in my boros tokens with charge. That you predicted far earlier than it took me to awaken to.. Though charge is harder to interupt.

Blessing is only two mana, though, and the +3/+3 can keep an important creature on the battlefield in response to Anger of the Gods or just be used as a combat trick. Pros and cons, but I think it's better in this list.

Hakeemy, do you feel the Squire is really better than the Cathar here?

Yes, it attacks as a 2/2 early and exalted triggers are good with flying and first-strike creatures. The Cathar does nothing and is easy to play around because you know it's coming. Sigil Blessing is a better anthem.

I've never liked Selfless Cathar honestly, I don't think it's very good.
