What's our stand on the "One Steve Limit"/"One Mario Limit"?

Specifically, I was working on a character with the working name of Brigid, until I remembered the multiverse already had one. They'd both be archers (more or less), too, though the resemblance stops there.

Well... there was more than one Malfegor.
But even then, I'm not sure where I fall on that.
As it is, Raven, no disrespect, has a few characters with names that are fairly close together, and at times that can get confusing, but on the other, I don't think we're going to run into the same confusion here since Brigid of Lorwyn is pretty basically off limits.

Still, it's something we should consider.

I'm personally fine with it, but it will inevitably draw comparisons. As long as you're alright with that, I personally don't see a problem.

Yeah, Daneera and Denner happened accidently, and I can see where it might be something of an issue, particularly as they're currently in the same place at the same time. Also, I created Sundar Elarion before I knew who Tevish's Illarion Vale was. But I've mostly just been referring to him as Sundar, so it shouldn't be too big a deal... I hope...

I want to second the thank yous to Keeper and Luna for so much hard work! I know I couldn't do that.

Regarding names, I prefer not to have repeats unless all but one are dead or indisposed. I suppose it is alright if all but one are canon and unimportant.

My personal style is also to avoid real-world names like all the time, but that's just preferences.

I actually don't have a problem with it at all. I mean, the setting we're working with is so incalculably huge that eventually SOMEONE is going to duplicate a name, probably. There might be some confusion but not terminal confusion.

And thanks Arcades :) It's really not HARD work now that everything's set up, it's just a LOT of work, if that makes sense.

Well, at least the wiki isn't hard--it's all just following the formatting standards that I set up. Luna probably does more work ultimately since he's backing everything up and creating new threads and proofreading.

Latest is there's some dude named Barrin on Ravnica. *sigh*

Anyway, who/what is Raiker Venn? I don't recall seeing him/her/it in the Archives and he's definitely not on my list of M:EM planeswalkers, so he didn't turn up in the search.

I think I am perhaps best qualified to answer this question. Raiker Venn is an ancient poet who has been around for millennia. He specializes in tragic poems, and tends to take them very seriously. I have not yet written up a dossier on him, which is why you were unable to find it. There is still a great deal about him that we do not know, but he has appeared in four stories so far, three of which have been voted into the archives. Here are the links:

The Jaded Cat
The Destitute Seeker
Poetic License
The Curse of Verse

He also has his own form of the sonnet, examples of which can be seen here: Raikervennian Sonnets

We are much the same mind as the Keeper of Names: we all are working not just within a large world, but a collection of many worlds, many with the same motifs and naming conventions -- it would be a trivial, perhaps even common matter for two characters to possess identical names. We would only advise thee to limit thyself on the notable personages coming from the same plane, whether 'walker or not. To possess the same names across multiple planes of reality would be fine; to have a 'walker named as a legend of their own world is more suspect. 'Twould not be impossible, as Serra herself was named for a goddess of her plane, yet such a circumstance would require more reasoning than simple happenstance.

To answer thy question directly, we would not be opposed to another Brigid.

So you're really doing the Royal Canterlot Voice now huh?

...I approve of this course of action on multiple levels.

I approve as well, though admittedly I only understand it on a fairly superficial level.

I cautiously accept it, but I feel like it might get tiresome after a while.

We carry the same worry, and are aware that such behaviour will wear thin quickly; but we should be able to keep ourselves in check and not constantly address the peasants too loudly.

I prefer the term "villain," thank you. Did you know that originally, the word "villain" referred to a rustic oaf or a peasant? It's true! :teach:

Did the Lorwyn Five actually all spend time on Lorwyn?

Nope. Not that we have evidence of. Jace might have but that story is semi-canonical at best.

It's one of the dumber fissures between cards and story in recent memory.

So, are we still going on the premise that M:EM "present" is 4604 AR?
