lol after going 15-1, I alter the deck and lose the very first game. Mono blue is vicious against this deck. I thought I had it in the bag because of Terra Stomper. (who knew its ability would matter? I didn't) The opponent even resolved a Nullify on it, apparently he forgot Terra Stomper couldn't be countered. I still lost. Opponent ran Void Snare, Vapor Snare, and Voyage's End. Nothing of mine could stay on the board. And his turn 3 Chasm Skulker ended up a 9/9 so by that point it didn't matter anymore.

but anyway, i played another game afterward so I'm currently 1-1. alas..

edit: 4-2

ROFL! Not to keep things off-topic here, but that seriously had me busting out laughing! We should use that as our slogan to get mobius back. ;P

Ok, sorry, no more off-topic BS.

But yeah, blue with a ton of bounce will always be hard for a higher CMC fatty build to overcome.

Wow, this is crazy because I'm normally a control player (with a small soft spot for RDW), but I have been really tinkering around with Gruul and playing with it a lot lately, and I think I can say that so far this is my favorite deck of this iteration. I guess it's fun to let Timmy run loose every so often. My list isn't too terribly different than most of the ones posted in here, but I will say it is definitely heavy on the removal and that's one of the reasons I think it performs so well.

Gruul Midrage (60)

Creatures (14)
2 Ogre Battledriver
1 Inferno Titan
2 Arbor Colossus
2 Garruk's Packleader
1 Soul of Zendikar
2 Terra Stomper
3 Pelakka Wurm
1 Kozilek, Butcher of Truth

Noncreatures (20)
4 Shock
4 Bolt of Keranos
3 Ground Assault
2 Anger of the Gods
1 Volcanic Geyser
2 Warstorm Surge
4 Cultivate
3 Meteorite

Land (23)
10 Mountain
11 Forest
2 Gruul Guildgate

Some notes on card choices...

Fatties: I originally had Phytotitan in there as well, but I took him out when I finally added Anger of the Gods because that's just a huge nonbo. Sure, Phytotitan is great with Warstorm Surge, but not much besides that. If only he came back into play untapped, then he would have synergy with Ogre Battledriver as well. I just don't think it's worth it as it is. I love Arbor Colossus because he can take out a Baneslayer Angel or a miscellaneous Dragon or a pesky Guard Gomozoa. My only tip with this guy is NEVER activate his monstrosity until you can hit something with it (unless you can win that turn or you know you won't be facing any flyers).

Burn: It may seem like a ridiculous amount, but it's what keeps me afloat in the early game, and it has been doing a great job of it. The Geyser has come in handy there in a pinch, although I have used it more often for lethal damage in cases of stalemates. It is definitely a star, but I think 1 is enough. Meteorite is awesome because it is burn and ramp for Kozilek. I used to have 4 Elvish Pioneer in the deck with a total count of 61, but one of my most recent changes is swapping those out for the Meteorites because the Pioneers just ended up being dead cards most of the time. Awesome when they worked, but that just didn't happen most of the time.

I lost to a removal-heavy Gruul deck earlier to multiple Shocks, Bolts, all three Assaults, and a Geyser. After he depleted all my threats, he stomped me with his top-end fat.

Yeah, that's pretty much the strategy with my build. And I have to say, it works pretty well.

earlier today I lost to a weird deck. Can't say I liked him very much

edit: Currently going 4-0 with my own take on Jade Mage + Battledriver
edit: 4-1
opponent got the god draw. And I accidentally picked keep hand although it might not have made a difference since opponent won on turn 4. But if I had a shock..
edit: 5-1
edit: 6-2
I had Burning Anger attached to a creature but the game wouldnt let me use it. (glitch? is the update somehow related?) Dunno if it would have made a difference however. Furthermore, my opponent drew Inferno Titan, but I didn't. I killed it, but he topdecked Truefire Paldin afterwards.
edit: *7-2
won against a "The Champion". But I got lucky by drawing a Stormbreath Dragon and Inferno Titan that game. Opponent was running a very good GBR dredge deck with Warstorm Surge.
edit: *8-2
edit: *9-2
edit: *9-4**

A token based Battledriver deck. I have aspects of that type of build in my Boros slot.

Don't you ever have issues with so few creatures to use those spells and equipments on?

That was my first thought too.

At twelve creatures, you're stone-dead to anyone who draws a Shock or two.

And if you don't want people to "yap" about your list then don't post it.

I guess he could use the pump spells as protect spells.. but still, it seems too few creatures IMO also.

Also.. here we go again with the "lol don't say anything negative about my deck till you've tried it." Explain the concept and get me excited to try it. From my perspective.. Unsummons and cheap removal would obliterate that build (same as most aura decks).. and after the first 1-2 creatures go down, you'd be hard pressed to draw another one due to them being so few. The utter lack of draw doesn't help the problem.. but, I get it.. it's an evasive creatures aura/equipment build. I did one too in R/W/U

Instead of saying something like "You should try things out before you yap" why don't you be helpful and explain why it DOES work so well? This is how arguments get started. No one is here to bash anyone, we just want to get explanations for something we do not understand. In this case 2bestest (along with a couple others) look at this and go "Hmm, from my experience this looks like it might not work well with so few creatures." Don't get offended, explain why it does work well. Not to mention 2bestest is a solid deck builder and he is also nothing but helpful from what I have seen from him so far.

I get tired of seeing the "you should try this out" line, as if everyone else's experience with MtG, card evaluation, meta, and cardpool knowledge and experience mean nothing when looking at a deck. We know how this game works, and there's a lot we can tell by looking at any given decklist. We don't always need to try out stuff to know if it's a horrible idea. For instance, we don't need to try out a deck with a mana curve of nothing but 4cc+ cards to know it's horrible. We don't need to try out Skeletal Wurm to know it's bad in comparison with the other high end creatures black has to offer. And likewise, we don't need to try out a "12 creatures that die to shock" aura deck in a meta where red is a prominent removal color to know it's just not a good idea.

And it's not like you have just any 12 creatures that are all 1 drops. No, you have 4 one drops, 4 two drops, and 4 three drops. What this means is if you don't draw 1 of 8 cards in your starting hand and first draw, then you're not playing your first threat until turn 3, at which point any deck with removal (aggro or control) with be in a pretty good spot to either start dealing with your threats while still advancing their board (aggro) or will easily have complete control of the game since your deck is so threat light (control).

But if you're going to completely shut out any and all advice under the "you should try it out first" banner, then people aren't going to give you advice. It'd be a waste of time for them if you never intend to listen.

I played against InfamousGemini in 3 games where he used this deck, and I went 1-2. I played 2 games using a UW control deck (went 1-1) and 1 game using a typical Izzet deck (went 0-1). From my observations, it was incredibly consistent. My UW deck lacked removal, but my UR deck had some. The difficulty in playing against it is just that it is very, very fast. And 'dies to Shock' isn't really guaranteed, given the 4 Gather Courage with convoke. I think a removal-heavy deck would do well against it as long as that removal was cheap, but cards like Tribute to Hunger would be a lot more valuable than Shock, I think.

3 games doesn't necessarily tell much, but it seemed like a pretty decent deck to me.

Dead Weight would do work on it.

Brings up a rules question for me - if there are no Auras on the battlefield, but someone casts Dead Weight on an Aura Gnarlid, does it die, or does it become a 1/1? If it's the second one, Dead Weight is good but not great against this deck.

I'm gonna venture a guess that it becomes a 1/1.

If you cast Lightning Bolt targetting Jace's Phantasm with nine cards in your graveyard it becomes a 5/5 with three damage marked and doesn't die. I imagine the Gnarlid becomes a 1/1 for similar reasons.
