By the way, I moved the "Search this thread" box up to a more visible location. It also has a more descriptive label. Yay!

noticed that! Thanks, Welder.

is there an advanced thread search where you can search by, say, author? like if I wanted to read all of Libe's posts in the Alphabet Card Game thread.

If you go to someone's profile, you can search for keywords in their posting history.

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like it would be a lot of trouble to only have one poster's posts be visible in a certain thread.

I'm... not sure whether there's a question or a request in there.

you mean my post or jack's? assuming you meant mine, I mean like the following:

this is every post you've ever made.
this is every post you've ever made in the meatboard.
is there a way to generate a similar list for every post you've ever made in the Forum Feature Requests thread?

Depends on how much of the search funtion would have to be tinkered with...

Sounds simple enough ...and would be useful

Oh, sorry razorborne, I missed your post. Oops.

Find-all-posts-by-a-given-user is actually totally possible now through the magic of URL hacking. I'm just not sure of a good way to expose this to users -- a link on each post that shows all posts by that user in that thread? Something in their profile page? Fiddle with the searchbox to recognize keywords like Google? (so author:blah would look for posts by user "blah").

Hm. I feel like it should definitely show up in-thread, at least, but there's only so many links we can cram in before the UI just gets insane. That last idea sounds sweet but would be a bit nastier to implement than a simple UI mod like adding a link.

Suggestions are welcome. :)

the simplest way I can think of it to turn the "Search this thread" button into a link to something akin to the regular search function, but which will only search that given thread. I do not know nearly enough about programming to make valid suggestions on how to actually do that, but my guess is that there's something that could be done that basically takes you to the regular search page, but with a thing that says "when you output this, add in this bit of URL hacking."

letting it recognize "author" as a thing would work too, although it's something that would have to be explained whereas the link seems more intuitive.

True, but it's also way more work, and I'm basically a very lazy person. ;)

OK, so "Search this topic" is now a link to the search page, with parameters set such that it only searches this thread.

Also, the search page notices you're only looking at a single thread and removes irrelevant options ("forums to search").

This is going to be a doozy, but I think it would be amazing if you could implement a Gatherer-like database for YMtC cards on the wiki. If we plan to have an NGA Constructed, we need some kind of search function to browse all cards in the format.

I just wanted to let you know that we haven't forgotten this and have started brainstorming how it all is going to work site-wise. :)

May I request that the latest smileys added ( :land:, :creature:, :instant:, :sorcery:, :enchantment:, and :artifact: ) be moved down the smiley list to lie next to the others of the same style? Preferably just after the :planeswalker: symbol.

I thought they hadn't been put in at first because I block out the smileys in the full list that already appear to the side of the post editor.

Even people who try to use normal Gatherer would appreciate it (stupid website update...)
