Here's a sketch for Clade... I'm bound to colorize it a bit with photoscape today, sounds fun, huh?!

Dude, your anatomy has gotten WAY better. I'm loving Clade's right arm and hand.

Cool to see you working more realistically again. I have to admit, I always liked your more traditional looking material a bit better than your heavily digital work. (Although I do have a soft spot for the Valjan and Jakkard landscapes)

The face still looks a little rough but maybe you're going to fill in more detail when you paint it.

Hey, it's Clade! Cool!

If you don't mind, I'd love to give a few pointers about the head, because I have a pretty specific picture in mind, but I don't believe I described it very well in his dossier. T_T

Basically, I always pictured him as having very little neck, with the base of his skull more or less connecting directly to his spine/shoulders. Most importantly, though, I sort of picture him with this great, big, weird... frog sack under his chin. What are those even called? You know, like bullfrogs have, except scaly and tough. It sort of wiggles as he walks, and extends about halfway down his chest. Does that make sense?

Because of this feature, I always thought he would have a large, strong, bottom jaw, and so his fangs would extend upward rather than downward.

Otherwise, I will say that this is great, and is the Jemma I spy in the corner there? Ehehe, man he's pretty huge. I sort of like the idea of Clade having only three fingers, and thicker arms, but he looks very strong without seeming like a behemoth, and that's the sort of thing I can appreciate.

Since you didn't draw his feet here, it's not a problem, but I like the thought of his feet being broad and flat, sort of like an elephants, with three stubby toes. Very hulking, slow and cumbersome.

Anyway, I like this! Thanks for taking an interest in my character. :)

I'm liking the color choices there.

I really like this drawing. Admittedly, I pictured him a little bulkier, a little greener, and with legs a little shorter, but they're all just that-little things. Beautiful.

NOW IF ONLY I COULD LEARN TO DRAW LIKE THAT.

Hahaha! Oh man, Lunar Mystic, I've got like, literaly a sketch sitting right behind me that looks almost exactly like that, give or take a few details. Very nicely done.

I think you could do to take a few cues from Daedalus (Hi, Daedalus, I'm Ruwin) because he's got the right of it. Clade's big on the muscles. But really, there's not a whole lot to critique here, because its very close to how I picture him.

He does have green skin, though - but I can see how that would clash with the background so I can't say that I care much! Ehehe, I'm also laughing because he looks so worried like "what's that???"

Thanks for posting! :D

I gotta say, as far as pose, costuming, and composition go, I think I prefer the first version a bit more. I dig the bulky body and bullfrog throat of the second though.

I think the most important thing about clade2.jpeg [ 111.13 KiB | Viewed 40 times ],
is the mood which feels like a troll.... you just want to hang out in the dank woods with him and observe the sunlight caressing his troll hide.

Report this posts

Also, he seems more along the lines of how trolls look these days...he's just not that into fashion.

I like the swinging hips of the first one... but ironically we are going to chop them off. I have a friend in China Town.... he does amazing things with bones.

So I'm fixin' 'a poot AA'lr them things to- gedder! Plus what you guys said!

I like that most recent Clade. I wish I could say more about it, but art is very much not my area.

That being said, I will say it's awesome to get some new art around this place. Keeper posted some great stuff a while back, but other than that, it's been pretty sparse around here!

Mm, anatomy's still not quite as tight as sketch 1 but that's looking pretty nice on the whole, I must say.

That third one combines the best of both sketches.

That looks like a big, cheerful smile while he blissfully smashes yet another civilization to rubble and causes untold thousands of mortal deaths. What fun!

It's miles ahead of the second sketch. The biggest issue really is just how low the shoulder affixes to the torso, but that can be forgiven as trollness.

Dalinian Instantaneous Memory always works faster after:

A: Long hours of study and patient practice

B: Post traumatic Stress disorder

C: A bong hit

B: Your first child is born

Golem... Golem...
Where for art thou, Red Golem?
In the forest? No, the hills!
Deep under boulder where stones, molten, spills
Into underground rivers and cooly congeals
No such steam has ever been seen
By any blacksmith ever to forge little swords and shields

Actually, on second review, it isn't an issue with the shoulder. It's the elbow that's throwing everything else off. The musculature layering is wrong, where the radialis should be over the bicep, while the direction of the forearm has this weird curve to it.
