While I can't speak for Aranthys, I replaced the Elixir of Immortality with Kozilek, Butcher of Truth. It's essentially the same effect with returning the graveyard to your library, but with bonus card draw and the Annihilator 4, plus, you know, 12/12.

EDIT: I'm also tempted to sneak a Maelstrom Archangel into the deck to combo with Counterlash. Attacking with the Angel would then bring Kozilek in that turn. It's really tempting, but I think it's probably way too greedy.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing, probably put in Kozi for the elixir. I would think adding the Angel would probably be a bit too greedy as well, lol.

I am currently working on a Dimir control deck focused on countering and discarding. I want to be a little more confident in the build before I share it here but I have finally begun getting consistency in it. I will share it soon I believe.

The deck is basically based around Talrand and/or Agents and abusing them.

Guard Gomazoa is there to help defend until you can get Talrand and/or Agent kicking.

Time Warp will win you the game 100 times over with a few flyers on the field.

Pestermite is a good trick and another flyer that can deal damage through the air.

Vapor Snag is great for stall/tokens and I have used it more than once on my Agent as well. Think Twice is for extra draws and the Flashback enables it for more tokens from Talrand. Artful Dodge is amazing with both Agents and Talrand.

Undying Evil is great with Agent as well as Liliana's Specter which is another flyer (and discard is never a bad thing). Works with Phyrexian Rager as well for extra draw.

Tribute to Hunger is another good spell for tokens, has life gain, and is relatively cheap.

I went with 4x Phyrexian Ragers over Graveborn Muse after testing both for a while. The main difference was that I could get out Phyrexian for cheaper and 1 turn earlier for card draw.

Shadowborn Demon is a beast and with all the tokens and other cheaper flyers he will often stick around more than just 1 or 2 turns. Indulgent Tormentor is simply amazing.

I use all 4 Dimir Guildgates after messing with just 2 and then 3. It is really important to have both double blue and black so I ended up having to use all 4.

While the deck is somewhat heavy on the 3-spot it still works out well. On turn 4 you throw down a 3 cmc and have room to cast any number of the 1 cost spells. Turn 5 is a perfect time to throw down Talrand to make sure he is safe with an Undying Evil or Vapor Snag in hand (which will also produce tokens). On turn 6 any 2 of the 3 cmc spells can be cast.

A few things can be slightly altered (more or less of a couple spells, minor creature changes) but the gist is the same and this build worked really well for me. If anyone has any suggestions I am open to ideas. Decent draw, some discard, and mainly a lot of flyers and death to creatures for the opponent.

that's different from what I had expected. The problem is that Blood Tribute and Sanguine Bond can't be returned once they hit the graveyard. This means all self-milling are out. (no Necromancer's Assistant or Hedron Crab) Which in turn means that Gravedigger is no longer quite a necessity and neither is Rescue from the Underworld. This all changes of course if I splash for Treasured Find which is something I could always try if this does not work out, although I doubt it would be a good idea.

@Death Oops, there should be 2x Indulgent Tormentor. ;P Obviously, lol. He is a beast! I edited it to correct. I still haven't taken it online, it was what I went through the campaign with for the most part. I'll have to test it one of these days. So many decks need testing, lol.

Hey guys. I am brand new to magic (played maybe 4-5 games in the past with my ex-girlfriend at the time) been thinking about getting into it again. I am very into dimir decks. I love the ability to seize control of players/creatures and use their graveyard against them. I have been on a quest to find an amazing deck. I bought a 2015 kit and pulled some absolutely amazing cards (4/6 plainswalkers o.O). I have been reading a lot online and looking at builds on youtube. I have come across twp especially...I will post them here. Let me know what you guys think about them...If you guys think they blow, would you be so kind to point me in the right direction....this site is the best I have seen thus far on deck building. My idea for the combo deck is no good, I always win before I get the combo out. :p
Maybe I should drop the Sanguine Bond and just use Blood Tribute to gain life / make opponent lose life.
In that case maybe it's time to put Archaeomancer back in.

One problem U/B has in 2015 is having no way of dealing with artifacts/enchantments.
(and no way of dealing with multiple small creatures)
At least with bounce, I can clear the counters off Beastmaster Ascencion. But chances are my opponent will be able to refill those counters quickly. (possibly even the very next turn)

Worse still, there is no way instant speed bounce the Ascension. So there's no way to the opponent's Ascension against him. (opponent attacks with all his 6/6's.. I bounce Ascension... block and kill all his creatures)

This perhaps makes black/blue a less than ideal color combination. It's a shame because I liked Dinrova Horror.

We just need black sun's zenith in an expansion for this game. Sigh.
This deck is all about control and has enough card draw to maintain. This deck is also impossible without premiums. Rune-scarred demon is the best control finisher in this game, going for the other one when the first comes out. I was playing a singleton undying evil to find with the second demon but it was just overkill. Monomania has been the most surprising card, great value. I've won a lot of games with this on 360, but it still feels like it's a couple of cards off. One more land seems likely, and the black removal suite is hard to nail down with so many conditional cards this year.

I have been waiting to post this deck as Dimir is my favorite of the guilds so i wanted to give the deck i posted extensive play testing and after changing things here and there i am very happy with my House Dimir Deck. I have played around 40 matches with this deck and i stopped keeping track of the win/loss ratio after the first 20 something when i only had 4 losses. Plus to me its just good fun so once i realised that not only was i winning most of the time i was having a blast with the deck i seized worrying about petty win loss ratio. This is Truly in Flavor, The House Dimir deck. Agents of undead, Forcing Discards and Conrolling your enemy.

Now for the explinations of my picks...

-Frost Lynx Is a beast of a 3 drop. It is meant as a combo with Assassinate but can be used to stall if really need be though at the act desperation. It also allows your finishers to get in past their blockers if they manage to have any by the time your ready to start bringing out your demons.

-Ulcerate is amazing. While other decks spend their early turns playing creatures, you'll spend your early turns bumping off those creatures. Though you may lose life it is worth it and will be offset by Tribute to Hungerin the mid to late game.

-Drudge Skeletons is a better choice over Asphodel Wanderer. It allows you to make Trump Blocks and keep your guy at a lower cost to regenerate freeing more mana to cast other instants.

-The Deck has alot of 1 of cards and that is mostly preference. It works and i dont fix something that isnt broken. i dont need 2 indulgent tormentors because i dont need to make sure i have it. I dont need more Dinrova HorrorTo be effective and i dont Require to have another Mercurial Pretenderto win. each has its place and makes the deck more enjoyable as it raises my risk/reward on my choices.

Well there it is, it is my main deck i play online and it has not dissapointed me and thus why i am confident in posting it. even my losses have been really enjoyable as the matches have been hairline close. The only thing i have been thinking that i need is an Elixir of Immortality or Kozilek, Butcher of Truth as some of the matches i have lossed or came close to losing were to other control or mill decks surprisingly. even though those are very few and far between i still see it as a weakness...i'm just not sure if it would even be worth it and i dont know what to remove. Like i said If it isnt broken dont fix it.

So far I feel Dimir is best ran as a standard control deck. One of the first builds listed in this section is an ideal way to run it. I have been trying to create something unique for the pool, (I really want discarding focus) but I just haven't been able to get something that I am totally happy with the consistency of!

BAH! I wonder what Mobius would come up with.. WWMD

Yeah, scry is nice, but scry 1 is pretty marginal. I prefer the cheaper cost. I typically want counter mana open in a draw-go deck, and that's easier to do while i've only got one tied down for snag. In the deck I posted, I have 22 cards at or above 3 mana, plus flashback think twice as well. Cheap removal (sic) is just more important than a minor deck filter in my case. The same is true if I need to protect the finisher I just threw down while you have removal.

I do think voyage's end has a place in a deck that abuses bounce by design, paired with vapor snag for more redundancy.

Do you have a control list to post?

I'm interested in some opinions here about Mind Rot. I have always been a fan of the card, but lately when using it, I find that it often creates a situation where myself and my opponent are both topdecking or very near it. For instance.. if I play first and Mind Rot on turn 3 and 4, typically the opponent will have a card or two left, but so will I. That's not much of an advantage unless I can outdraw him with Ragers/Graveborn/Tormentor (and Tormentor rarely ends up fetching me extra cards until I'm in a win more situation and don't need them).

I'm starting to think 2 Monomania might be a better value than 3-4 Mind Rot so I can play all the important stuff on turn 3 (Ragers, Spectres, Agent of the Fates, Scorpion, etc.) I also thought it was awesome when Steveolutionary said in another thread, "A friend of mine runs mono black and uses Darksteel Ingot to ramp on turn 3 into a turn 4 Monomania, and it's pretty much GG after that." I think that sounds like some sick value.. and it doesn't deplete your hand like spamming Mind Rot does.

Anyway.. I'm interested in your thoughts about this subject. You guys are an awesome set of minds.

I just made this deck after giving up on an Agents of the Fates based deck. The deck was packed with bounce and Archaeomancers and such with the idea of utilizing Agent. The deck had no wincons except 2 Rune-Scarred and 1 Griselband, and in one game my opponent killed Griselbrand and 1 of the Rune-Scarred. so I thought how nice it would be to have Elixir to shuffle everything back in. Not to mention I lost a game to Act of Treason which I noticed my decks tend to bend over backwards to. Elixir life gain might help me stay out of Act of Treason range making it safe to play my creatures. Lastly, Elixir makes it easier to use Griselbrand's ability right away. Many times you wait to attack first but opponent just kills it, and its so lame.

I have only won a game so far but here it is

glad to finally have Mind Rot and Dinrova in the same deck for a change. Usually I stuff the deck with effects like Gravedigger/polymorphist/Rescue and the like with the intent of reusing Dinrova so there's no room for Mind Rot.

4 Mind Rot 3 Dinrova = put target permanent into the graveyard
4 Inspiration 4 Mind Rot = two for one heaven
4 Inspiration 3 Elixir = Dosan's Oldest Chant with Reminisce attached
3 Elixir 3 Ulcerate 2 Cruel Sadist = fire away

lost to a nice GB deck with premiums. The deck didn't even have spider spawning. (or ast least he never cast any) He was getting by just fine with his Dead Reckoning, Nemesis of Mortals, Griselbrand, Rune-Scarred, Indulgent Tormentor, Shadowborn, and Bloodghast. >:(

I haven't really found anything I'm too ecstatic about but this is what I've built with my Dimir.

Broken Bones

4 x Pharika's Chosen
4 x Vicious Hunger
4 x Phyrexian Rager
4 x Assassinate
2 x Indulgent Tormentor


Quicken is there to speed up Assassinate and Vicious Hunger but it also draws a card and counts as an Instant for Talrand so it fits in rather well.

Frost Lynx also goes well with Assassinate and is often just a body to handle 1/1s that I don't want Phariaka's Chosen dealing with.

Voyage's End doesn't have the upside that Undying Evil has in the deck but is a lot more versatile.

Skulker and Talrand generally have synergy with most cards i nthe deck. I decided to choose the Skulker over a more discard oriented approach but both seems to fit this deck style.

I don't think the UB pool is strong enough to build a consistent control deck. If I were going to build a blue-based control deck it would be either UW or Esper because white has the best removal. Right now I'm satisifed with both my Grixis control deck and mobius's UW combo deck so I'm working on other concepts right now. I will get to Dimir/Esper eventually, but probably not until an expansion.
