Harmless Brew and I played a few matches yesterday and got down to discussing a deck he had built. We talked it over in the editor and decided on a few minor tweaks to the initial concept. I tested it this morning and made a few other changes based on actual play, then I talked to Brew and he had played the deck and changed it as well, although in a different direction than I took it.

I'm pleased with the current list so I thought I'd post it up to share. Thanks to Brew for the initial list and concept, he's the main architect of this thing. With that, I present to you.....

Fattledriver

4 x Gruul Guildgate
12 x Forest
9 x Mountain

4 x Shock

4 x Elvish Visionary
1 x Volcanic Geyser

4 x Cultivate
3 x Darksteel Ingot
2 x Anger of the Gods

2 x Ogre Battledriver

3 x Garruk's Packleader
2 x Arbor Colossus
1 x Stormbreath Dragon

2 x Terra Stomper
1 x Inferno Titan

3 x Pelakka Wurm
2 x Siege Dragon

Pretty basic plan here, just ramp and stomp all over them. The Shocks and Angers are a nod to the deck's weakness to weenie swarms, while the Siege Dragons catch any opponents who manage to recover and start to rebuild. Being able to drop this guy with haste through Battledriver is downright mean.

Everything else in the list is just about casting the big dudes. Ogre Battledriver is an all-star card here, and hitting either Cultivate or Ingot on T3, followed by T4 Battledriver, into T5 Terra Stomper is just a huge beating. Ten power uncounterable haste trample.

Hakeem-tested, Timmy-approved.

Just managed to beat a very aggressive WB deck that had a 5/5 Ajani's Pridemate and a Trained Caracal on the board, while all I had was the Fattledriver. I have five land in play, but none in hand and need one off the top to play my Inferno Titan; enter forest, I wipe his board and get in for 11. Next turn he taps out for Meditation Puzzle (hahahaha) but I slam a Pelakka Wurm and swing for 21 (includes Titan's trigger). And all of this by T6. :)

After playing this all day, I am removing the Gladeharts; I only cast them if I have nothing else to do and the lifegain is only marginally helpful. In their place I have added a Mountain, the third Darksteel Ingot, and a copy of Volcanic Geyser. I've edited the above list to reflect these changes.

Wise decision I feel on nixing the gladehart. This deck looks interesting and is a little different in direction from the way I took Gruul, but I like it and I can see how it can be brutal!

I am really interested in the Black/red/green build you spoke of! Get on with that!

I started out using Gladeharts as well and came to the same conclusion.

Nobody seems to be talking about Nylea's Disciple.

She does a very good job of stopping aggro decks and with all the green devotion in the deck already she makes huge life buffers in the late game.
It's like having Pelakka Wurm 4-7. You can't ask for more from a 4-drop.

Actually, she's not a bad consideration for my list because she triggers the Packleader and I am heavy on creatures that provide green devotion. I'm not sure where I'd slot her in though and how many copies I should have. I'll have to think about it.

I agree, that's not a bad idea at all... Man, I can't think of where to fit her in either...maybe in place of the 2 Shocks since I may be able to let a little more damage through by gaining life. I dunno. I've moved on to a new deck but when I come back this way I might make that switch and see what happens.

Question - is there a point in splashing red in a green deck if it's only really to include like 5 cards? The cards in question are Ground Assault and Volcanic Geyser, the deck is basically a green 'ramp' into fatties deck - figure if I'm going to be ramping mana I might as well pick up some potent removal that takes advantage of that. I'm also considering throwing Fling in there to kill any big flyers and as a finisher. What do you think? Worth the splash at all? What say you!?

Also if the DLC listing is correct we get two Banefire as well that would be right at home here.

Ground Assault is probably the best removal spell in the game right now, and Geyser is removal/finisher, the one you need more. I'd say yes.

If you're running Cultivate, then it's not a problem. Those are great cards.

Maybe I will replace 3 Shocks with Geysers and see what happens.

I wouldn't want to replace Shock, it kills a lot of important creatures and is one of the few early interactive cards. You don't want to use Ground Assault on weenies (just look at the art, it's meant for killing dragons).
Volcanic Geyser is going to be on par with Shock on turn 4, at which point you have better stuff to cast and the lategame is already covered.

I think Shock is a four-of, Ground Assault is a two-of, and Geyser is a singleton as maximum values.

Hakeem, have you considerer cutting Stormbreath Dragon for Nylea's disciple? I think it makes sense to cut a red card fot a devotion to green card, and the Stormbreath, while powerful in it's own right, just isn't in line with this deck's strategy. It already has haste, is a little light on a body when it comes in, and slows your fatty onslaught to turn Monstrous. The other drops are stronger.

I'll be testing your list with 2 Nylea Disciples and see how it goes.

Ground Assault in this deck is better than Shock any day imo (not that either is bad by any means). I'd go with 3 Shocks, 3 Assaults, and 1 Volcanic Geyser in that case.

Looking at this list I could see it using Warstorm Surge. I myself have not had the chance to test the card but your pool seems to be tailor made for it, specially with a Ogre Battledriver on the board. A massive Genesis Hydra could even be insta GG with 2 creatures.

That's not a bad idea Harb. I might replace my Charmbreakers for Warstorm Surge and see what happens.
